Even if Obama's legacy was diminished with time (which I personally don't think it will), as others have mentioned, this image will be one of the top iconic images whenever an image is needed to show art and politics intersecting.
Someone got a steal on a recent ebay hammer of just over 1k for the original Progress version.

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by New Wave Dave on Aug 3, 2022 2:34:29 GMT 1, I'd also like to add that the Obama piece is one of the only pieces I own that actually has a story around it that most viewers, or those not versed in street art, understand and experienced and thus, have some kind of attachment to. That alone makes this a center piece for any collection.
It goes really well with my Daily Mirror front page image discussing the second Bush election win: '“How can 59,054,087 people be so DUMB?”

The last i can find on artsy is 40k USD a year ago at sotheby's - was that an anomaly or the way things are moving forward?

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by New Wave Dave on Aug 14, 2022 17:37:11 GMT 1, A signed Progress on eBay recently went for about US1,300. Presumably it was a legit piece. They usually tend to sit for sale at the 6k mark. I would suspect demand for the Progress ones are a bit less because they are smaller in print dimension and not as iconic.

They usually tend to sit for sale at the 6k mark. I would suspect demand for the Progress ones are a bit less because they are smaller in print dimension and not as iconic. There are two different versions of Progress, the original was 24x36”, this was the first Obama print Shepard made and is the same size as the Hope image, and then a small 9x12” was produced. Both are screen prints, none of the Hope prints are screen prints. That one that sold for $1,300 is most likely the smaller print. While the progress print is not as popular than the hope print, the 24x36” version fetches much more than $1,300.

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by New Wave Dave on Aug 15, 2022 22:52:43 GMT 1, Thanks, Conart, for this clarification. I had always assumed the few larger ones I had seen online were counterfeit, haha. My mistake! Had both of these versions been created before the Obama folks came got involved? You don't by any chance know the approximate numbers these were created in? I'm reading online 500 for the small, 350 for the larger size.

The progress prints were made before obama’s campaign got involved. Shep made them to help promote Obama in the California primaries and the campaign reached out afterward and asked to use the image. If I remember correctly, the progress prints were initially sold to raise money so Shep could do his grassroots pastering in California for Obama. After the campaign got involved, Progress was changed to Hope because that was the slogan the campaign was using.
the 24x36” print was released on January 30, 2008 and was an edition of 350
the 9x12” print was released on March 2, 2008 and was an edition of 400

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by bsharp on Nov 13, 2022 4:04:52 GMT 1, This copy appears to be pretty heavily damaged on the front. I'm not surprised in the slightest with the quoted range. It's not clear how it's mounted, but that could be a factor also.
Also -- the 24x36 Hope was never screen printed. Every version is a litho. The numbered edition is on thicker paper (same used for screen prints), while unnumbered is thinner (like paster paper). Progress is the only 24x36 Obama image that's screen printed.

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by LJCal on Jan 24, 2023 5:27:04 GMT 1, as above, looking for edition of 600 Shep not the signed open edition. Looking for decent signed and numbered Lichtenstein again not in the market for posters and ephemera. Bit of a long shot although someone did offer me lovely Lichy a while back on here. Cash available alongside no hassle and references.
