(I don't remember that one too well) There are TONS of fakes. Obama poster fakes was its own industry for a while. Fakes is what worries me. I have a "vote" of 5000 that i will be looking for shep to sign the next time i see him Still, i am holding out for HOPE Personally, I'd have to buy it from a friend or longtime forum member to feel comfortable. Maybe that's just my paranoia, but I'd rather not get burned.

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by sgolby on Aug 27, 2019 20:19:58 GMT 1, bro stay away from thin signed, they are more than likely fakes. I know Black Book Gallery has one selling for 5K plus which to be frank is an absolute joke. Unless he has a video or a letter from Shep stating he signed it, I am going to go ahead and call it a fake or at least fake signature.
Reason:
SHEP WAS PISSSSSSSED OFF THAT PEOPLE WERE SELLING POSTERS THAT HE GAVE OUT FOR FREE FOR PEOPLE TO SPREAD SUPPORT OF OBAMA. SO THE IDEA THAT HE WOULD SIGN ONE SEEMS WAY OUT IN LEFT FIELD.
BLACK BOOK used to be on here so he can go ahead and provide the proof if he so chooses.

The one Blackbook has is far from fake. A little background info for you. Blackbook hosted the Manifest HOPE show in Denver for the DNC convention in 2008. The show hosted artists such as Shepard Fairey. At the show, HOPE pasters were being given away by Shepard. Blackbook has a great working relationship with Shepard and would not sell fake items.

Yeah, this is the story i got from Tom. I just feel that maybe 5k is above my threshold for a thin offset.... Maybe.

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by Con Art Studio on Aug 27, 2019 21:12:47 GMT 1, however he did release the below screen print in an edition of 350 after Ombama was elected: That is incorrect. The progress print is indeed a screen print BUT it was the first print Shepard released of Obama and was released WELL BEFORE he became president. The progress image was created during the California primaries, before Obama was even the democratic nomination, and was released on January 30, 2008. Shepard also released a smaller, 9"x12", progress screen print in an edition of 400 of this image a few months later in April 2008.
Progress was changed to "HOPE" after the Obama campaign contacted Shepard to use the image for the campaign, a few weeks after he made/released the original Progress poster/print. It was changed to "HOPE" because that was the tagline the campaign was using. In February 2008, a few weeks after Shepard released the 24"x36" silkscreen progress print, he released the 24"x36" HOPE offset on thick paper in an edition of 600.
The only official Progress/Hope *editioned* prints Shepard released are:
Progress (24x36" silkscreen edition of 350) Progress (9x12" silkscreen edition of 400) Hope (24x36" offset edition of 600)
There was also an official signed/numbered 10x14" black/gold silkscreen version of hope made in 2009 but as far as I know, that was never sold/released anywhere.
Shepard also sold some signed (not numbered) Hope offsets on thin paper (similar to the paper he uses for pasters) and large signed progress stickers. The campaign also made a billion posters to hand out. Bootlegers also made the same amount.

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by sgolby on Aug 27, 2019 21:33:53 GMT 1, @conartstudio you are correct I just reread the dates on those posts. I remembered it differently, but was mistaken. As for the signing and selling of the offset posters both in interviews and the opening paragraph from his site which I pointed to before, he says this:
Everyone here at OBEY is very disappointed in those who chose to auction their Obama posters, especially their STREET PASTERS on EBAY. A great deal of effort was made by our small crew to get as many posters as possible out on the streets to support the OBAMA campaign before the Primaries. Despite the EBAY screenprint auctions, we decided to basically give away OBAMA posters to people all over the country to help bring awareness. It looks like we were naive in believing that people would be true and do what they actually said they would do. All those that received these street pasters knew that they were not to be auctioned on EBAY or sold anywhere else. Its extremely discouraging when we intentionally make Shep’s art obtainable and affordable for all and in turn are exploited and taken advantage of by GREEDY people. We put 100% of the poster proceeds back into the Obama campaign.
SO, @conartstudio and @spagucci, it would seem as though while you may be right about what you are saying, Shep and his people seemed to be pretty clear about how they felt regarding the resell of those pasters/posters1. I am not sure where he would fall today, but if they are selling it and have as close a relationship as they do with Shep, then like I said, just have him confirm provenance or better yet donate 100% of the proceeds to the DNC.

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by mose on Aug 27, 2019 21:34:52 GMT 1, I only recently learned that the Hope poster was the focus of a copyright-infringement lawsuit between Shepard Fairey and the Associated Press. That was a totally winnable case for him, given the trends in fair use legal decisions in the US, if he hadn't falsified evidence and shot the case to hell.
He definitely made a big mistake, but he plead out, settled up, and moved on. I'd like to think I wouldn't do such a thing if in a similar position, but the stresses of business, family, etc. sometimes distort us pretty badly.

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by Deleted on Aug 28, 2019 6:50:27 GMT 1, If you are worried about a fake, I would actually pay a little more for the Black Book Gallery one at this point.
It's one of the few "official" galleries to resell Shepard Fairey work and also the owner has a strong connection to the artist. There are also articles about the owner running a show in Denver during the Obama election which had originally given these out. If anything the Black Book Gallery is the closet official print outside of purchasing it directly from Shepard.
Many people bought unsigned ones and had Shepard sign it later or who knows. I don't know how you could prove those are real.
If anything at this point Black Book Gallery Obama/Hope print is probably the safest purchase you can do but also will cost you. But the receipt from Black Book might be worth the extra cost for worry.

It was changed to "HOPE" because that was the tagline the campaign was using. In February 2008, a few weeks after Shepard released the 24"x36" silkscreen progress print, he released the 24"x36" HOPE offset on thick paper in an edition of 600. The only official Progress/Hope *editioned* prints Shepard released are: Progress (24x36" silkscreen edition of 350) Progress (9x12" silkscreen edition of 400) Hope (24x36" offset edition of 600) There was also an official signed/numbered 10x14" black/gold silkscreen version of hope made in 2009 but as far as I know, that was never sold/released anywhere. Shepard also sold some signed (not numbered) Hope offsets on thin paper (similar to the paper he uses for pasters) and large signed progress stickers. The campaign also made a billion posters to hand out. Bootlegers also made the same amount.
Hey, regarding this part "Shepard also sold some signed (not numbered) Hope offsets on thin paper (similar to the paper he uses for pasters)"
how much are the signed and dated 2008 posters worth?
however he did release the below screen print in an edition of 350 after Ombama was elected: That is incorrect.
