So Hebru continues to be one of the hottest names in my hometown of Chicago.
over Lollapalooza weekend he had a small show/"pop-up shop" titled Penny Candy that was well received and visited by several artists including our own Lupe Fiasco.
i have no personal interest in Hebru other than being a fan and thought others might enjoy checking out his work.

From looking at his website, tumblr etc, there's a nice mix of paintings and sculptures, but in terms of where it's available, there doesn't appear to be any clues...

Sorry this took a minute as I've been traveling. It's 8x10 with paint over pencil...and my horrible cell phone pic doesn't do any of the layering or detail any justic.
This one reminded me of Basquiat who Hebru cites as a huge influence (although that doesn't always show in all of his work). Proud to own an original from one of my city's brightest young artists.

Ironic I purchased a work from him when he use to work with me in ATL at a sneaker store. I purchased it for a couple reasons, #1. Super good dude, #2. Love to support people I know #3. I liked the work, he always had super large canvases in the stock area he was working on. the canvas I have is smaller and nothing like the style which he has become famous for, so kinda cool to have something that is an original and before he has really found his groove as well.

Hey highbrow, great piece. Cool to see how Hebru's style has evolved. How long ago did you acquire that one?

was about 7 years ago when he worked with me, I also think his work is evolving and from seeing interviews it appears he has assistants already handling some of the painting duties

might be quick to have assistants handling his work...i hope that's not the case and he stays true to his work...

again it was in an online video interview, I am not sure they were working on the paintings, but I also know he does a number of large casting and can't think he has mastered that end of things as of yet. He also has been working for a number of years and has become very well known in Chicago and over the last few years very well known in the entire art world .

Vertical Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition with Hebru Brantley. Memoirs of the Minimum Wage runs June 6 – 28, 2015, with an opening reception with the artist on Saturday, June 6, 6-10pm. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

In his visual survey of growing up in middle-class America, Brantley will show sketches, watercolors, paintings and sculptures that incite us to challenge the norm and question that on which we place value in society.



Inspired by his 1980’s Chicago upbringing, Brantley’s work touches on tough subjects with an affable approach, telling his stories through youthful characters and their adventures. Brantley’s pieces can be described as pop infused contemporary art inspired by Japanese anime and the bold aesthetics of street art pioneers Jean-Michel Basquiat, KAWS, and Keith Haring.
