A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by lha on Oct 7, 2018 16:52:11 GMT 1, Banksy instagram following increased from 2.4m to 3.7m this weekend alone... From a social media/brand marketing perspective,1000 engaged followers is worth around £4,100 per annum. This net increase in 1.3 million followers could be worth in excess of £5m for brand banksy. And that costs only about a mil 😉
I hope he never thinks along those lines.

A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by tab1 on Oct 7, 2018 18:41:09 GMT 1, Of course it’s staged , makes no difference , served it’s purpose , main media world wide , social media account up in members .
It was not on a timer as the timing could not be timed to perfection on last hammer after all the lots
Worked on a radio frequency which would of been put on at the last moment , many electrical items could potentially trigger the device in the building so would of been activated at the last moment .
Battery power could of activated the device if jolted or knocked so again could of potentially activated prematurely if left on.
His work is good but he didn’t rise to fame without these stunts

A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by Not 4 The Thril on Oct 7, 2018 19:45:14 GMT 1, i think this was probably quite easy to pull off.
banksy created this work recently. made a pest control certificate dated 2006. someone with reputable ties to banksy or maybe someone in his camp hit up the auction house and said i have this amazing, iconic early work from banksy-- with all this provenance. i would be interested in selling it at your auction but it must be displayed on the wall because the frame was specially made by banksy himself.
banksy being one of the most famous artists in the world would of course close out the show and be auctioned off last. i dont think he needed any crazy remote or garage door opener to set it off. i think you could just do it straight from an app on your cell phone. 2 people close to banksy were there. one person to film and one person to set off the shredder.
also if someone really wanted to find out who banksy is- in the video of him building the shredder- he isnt wearing gloves. whoever bought it can just dust for fingerprints.

His work is good but he didn’t rise to fame without these stunts If an authentic buyer did buy this picture. As soon as the hammer went down, the picture belonged to the buyer pending payment which meant Banksy destroying someone elses property.
Plus it looked like there were two images in that very fat frame. One in the front that probably went over a roller at the bottom and one at the back part of the frame allready shredded that was released downwards.
Looks to me like a gag and Sotheby's in on it or Banksys team bidding it up.

His Palestinian connection provided the arming system as deducted by the Iranian circuit board😬 All speculation but my previous post most likely , who knows , good talking point , certaining got the auction room lively.
Getting finger prints ? Only works if he had a criminal -record ? And if he did depending on the conviction a whole can of worms. If I was investing a million plus would definitely want to know the history of the artist .

Everybody could be under a hoodie. It entertains the street myth. It’s more difficult to Have your artworks under a hammer I guess... And you need subliminal connections and a great PR If you destroy it live in an historic auction house, in front of dozen of lazy rich ‘s cameras .. The Musical...
Anyway, I think that a lot of members, in this thread, have not been very critical with this Banksy act itself that has nothing to do with a Dadaist or anartchist gesture as supposed to be... This is the result of an incredible connection with a great PR, media, video, etc. .. All what is actually the our Christic feeding buzz.
Go on Twitter and read the comments about : they are all in the same way, often blind and/or silly, kind of “ incredible, he destroyed a KKKK masterpiece ! Only the sensational and the spectacular ( good for the readers of the Daily, Metro etc ) This connection with Sothebys annoyed me... and this art market that means nothing for the ordinary people ... Don’t forget that the people, yes the “ simple” people had elected GWTRB as the Britain’s favourite masterpieces : 1.Banksy, Balloon Girl 2.John Constable, The Hay Wain 3.Jack Vettriano, The Singing Butler 4. JMW Turner, The Fighting
When we read this classement ... well nothing. Just another side ( I Like it too, as all Banksy fans ) of what we actually read about this audiovisual self destroying “ masterpiece “ , that could concern maybe only a small committee of art collectors and connoisseurs. Anyway, Banksy choosed to show it to all the world. Why ? I don’t know. I think That he is sincere ( critic of art, auctions etc .. ) but it sounds a bit as a private joke , becoming a collective hallucinations and manipulation of mass media as had done Orson Welles at the radio with The War of the Workds.. Well I stop now, I am a bit lost this morning Coffee now.

The technology wasn’t around in 2006 to reliably do this but it’s not the point. Even if the artwork was made yesterday it was still valuable and a great stunt. Honestly I think it was a marketing stunt by banksy a team and it worked a treat. Good on them and I hope this only continues.

However, I still don't think it means anything. I dunno about you but every time I'm making a video I want to pretend was created in 2006, taking my wedding ring off is always first on my list. Oh, and I make sure to put a wig on, lose a couple of stone, and act like life hasn't sucked every last drop of optimism out of me yet. Then it's almost believable.
