Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by Hairbland on Aug 30, 2018 21:32:10 GMT 1, absolutely arbitrary . i have no inside knowledge of the deal .. you are worried about the plumber comment but not that people are implying Sandra gets all the money from the release? that was the point of the post if it wasnt obvious. She is a hard working successful woman. people seem to have a problem with it. Just razzing. I'm not worried about the plumber and your point about what ends up in Sandra's pocket is well taken. I hope she can find continued financial success while evolving her work. Has this plumber the two of you speak of released any prints?

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by ditisdeleven on Aug 31, 2018 12:42:00 GMT 1, $195k for 600 pieces of utter toot! Man this release really goes to show the state of "urban art" world in 2018. I can literally hear her laughing all the way to the bank... .. you dont think she really gets all the money right ? she has to pay to have them made, shipped, etc so lets say she gets a margin of 20% -30% over producton cost for small batches ? for easy math lets say $50 per item. 600X$50 = $30,000 thats still a lot of money you yell ! but, doesnt her gallery also get paid. ok knock off 1/3 for the gallery to manage the sale and handle customer complaints and shipping.etc. so now she is down to $20,000 - That's a lot of money you yell . but she surely has 100 hours of time in making the art, meetings, planing, working with the company to make the things, promote them sell them. and right back down to $200 an hour over months of planning - or basically - what a plumber charges per hour. She is definitely making $$ on these ..but lets put the pitchforks down and just let her be a successful artist. According to the quality of these pieces, do you really think production costs will extend $50 a piece? Hell no. So the margin of production costs will be much, much more. Rather $250 than $50. COA charges $100 to send a box to Europe, guess there will be some extra margin too.
Besides that, Sandra took an existing piece of her earlier work. Not sure if you should count hours of her 'making the art'. She probably just send that piece to Mighty Jaxx who made a toy from it. If she really would have put some time and energy to keep improving this piece of 'art', this couldn't have been the end product.
By the way, no offense at all to Sandra or anyone. I love her work, got some lovely pieces of her on my wall, but please don't tell me this ugly piece is about making art instead of making money. It's simply not.

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by daveart on Aug 31, 2018 12:59:44 GMT 1, Fair point. i may have gone too far on cost however with really low production runs i would be surprised that you could get custom work done of this type as cheaply as you are saying.. but we are both guessing so probably not worth getting too specific. as already mentioned.. arbitrary .. plug in your own numbers and decide if what she is doing is really worth getting worked up over.

I agree In the end art is always arbitrary and value doesn't always have to be intrinsically (hard work, expensive techniques etc.).
For example: I have Sandra Chevrier's decks on my wall in the kitchen. Paid $700 for it (at release) + 100$ shipping. Three 'simple' printed decks (quality isn't even that good), with a picture on it she used multiple times before. But hey: I love this piece! Even though I got some lovely pieces of Whatson, Parra and D*Face at the other side of the wall, visitors always keep talking about the decks. Would even paid double for it

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by soulseeker on Aug 31, 2018 15:35:10 GMT 1, Well, well - around 190 sculptures still ava for sale at COA from the 600 ava online (over the 4 editions) This sculpture is definitely not to my taste but it's obviously been worth the $300/350 for others! Good on Sandra for attempting to express her work in a new art medium - shame the quality of the cartoon pictures looks poor - and yes, the windows to the 'soul' are sadly lacking!

Brilliant, and for a hefty markup. 😊 But this actually implies that flippers generate a positive externality (beside the many negative ones): they do provide liquidity to the market... even in the case of these turds 😂

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by shy on Sept 3, 2018 10:32:10 GMT 1, well, the black sculptures sold out very fast! I imagine these remaining sculptures will sell out in time... not unlike many other artists creations.
And the point is that they are still selling...
Not my cup of tea, but I respect Sandra and wish her continued success. She is very talented and do collect quite a bit of her work.... and I am still a big fan!
