ARTSY 🇺🇲 Urban Art Auctions, by Wearology on Nov 3, 2018 4:17:59 GMT 1, It is now a month since the "internal team at Artsy" has had an opportunity to look into allegations of fake art works being offered for sale on their platform. Can someone from Artsy pease let our community know what they have done in the past 30 days to deal with this supposed issue of Fagazeys on their site.

I admire your optimism, but that's never gonna happen. They know they sell fakes. They don't give a sh!t. Fake Banksy's also sell for big money. And attract bidders on other lots.
This website has a rather high Google ranking. Best to post : ARTSY SELLS FAKE ART - BEWARE! - every week.
That will show in Google searches. At least people will be warned. (If you want to continue your little project)

ARTSY 🇺🇲 Urban Art Auctions, by campfire headphase on Dec 22, 2018 14:17:34 GMT 1, Did anyone catch the final price of the Harland Miller watercolor, “International Lonely Guy”? Artsy wont disclose online...
The painting looked quite wavy. Last I checked, it didn’t even hit its low reserve of £26k 3 hours before it ended...

ARTSY 🇺🇲 Urban Art Auctions, by campfire headphase on Dec 22, 2018 20:03:14 GMT 1, Yeah, the estimate was too high. You’re obligated to sell at the low reserve and Maddox likely did not want to take that risk. That’s what happens when you put too high of an estimate.

ARTSY 🇺🇲 Urban Art Auctions, by campfire headphase on Dec 24, 2018 17:03:45 GMT 1, It’s psychology. If you increase the estimate (low end) and set the bar there, it becomes unattainable, psychologically. It has been proven many times... 10’s of thousands of times that you set a low reserve and it will entice bidding. Also, Artsy is NOT an auction house with any serious credibility. Maddox should know this. Artsy has no exposure in that space. The serious and qualified buyers are on christie’s and Sotheby’s. Maddox/Artsy set the aperture of the reserve too narro. Low high of 26/28? Give me a break.
Maddox likely bought it back. Would have hurt their business for this work to have tanked... also, the 24k starting bid was clearly a house bid...

I’ll come clean - I work there...
But just trying to understand your logic...Why on earth would a gallery buy the piece back if the result isn’t on public record? Ie. Christie’s/ Sotheby’s etc
Working with Artsy over the last month - we have found 7 new clients from 2 sales... if that’s not a success I’m not sure what is...
If prints are selling for circa £25-35k what’s not to say this isn’t worth £40k?

ARTSY 🇺🇲 Urban Art Auctions, by campfire headphase on Dec 24, 2018 22:36:49 GMT 1, I think what’s to say that the work on paper isn’t £40k is the auction that happened literally the other day. Didn’t it close at 28k? Defo not 40k 72 hours later. It didn’t go higher because people weren’t interested I think. That or as I said, Artsy isn’t an auction house. They’re an online commerce platform. They’re good at that end of things but they can’t compete with auction houses that have been around hundreds of years. Ever.
What next, will we see 90M David Hockney’s up for auction on that platform? HA! No chance.
If you work there, why use a personal account about Maddox inventory? Regarding galleries buying other material back, Gagosian does it all the time. Jay jopling at White Cube (and the Mugrabi family) do it all the time. Mostly to protect or “lift” values of material by artists in their stable. That is the beauty of the opacity of the artworks. Bereft of regulations and oversight and all...

ARTSY 🇺🇲 Urban Art Auctions, by Sunshine90 on Dec 24, 2018 23:01:23 GMT 1, Yes, it hammered at 28k... never said it sold for 40.. big difference... I personally think it’s good value at that price - but what do I know hey!
Lol of course you can’t compete with the top auction houses.... but it’s justified by the fees involved... Thanks for clearing that up.
Ridiculous comparing a 28k work to a 90mil piece...
I use personal account here as it’s for personal use - didn’t start the thread just clearing things up for everyone. Pretty sure I haven’t promoted any of the Gallery works here... as mentioned before if a gallery were to buy their own stock back - it would be through a live auction with public records... not via Paddle8/ Artsy / artnet...

I think right now the only one buying miller is Maddox.
You buying the print back and you only need to pay the small comision the the Platform. If you buying it back, you think you increased you stock value for and very small fees.
