This was around the same time he beat a woman.

I view it as refreshing but not laughing at it. Most so called urban artists including Banksy have meticulous pr orchestrating everything. Just look at Kaws for example to see a former street artist now living a painfully dull blue chip artist life and so far removed from why most of us started following him. Retna just does whatever he wants. He reminds me in that respect of Tino Asprilla who used to play for Newcastle and for me thatโs a good thing.

I don't know about comparing him to a troubled genius, his art comes nowhere near the art of Dali, Van Gogh etc. It looks like basic stuff anyone could do and sold as highbrow because the package describes Retna as some sort of creative genius which he isn't.

I've know him personally for over 10 years, he is a long time artist buddy.
Hope this clarifies a bit,
he is never shy to defend himself (words or fists) so I'll do it for him
He is def dealing with some issues but everyone who blows up does, they are one of the true tests of success and mainstream exposure.
He's big time now!
People are literally waiting and hoping for his death and aiding his self distraction and demise!
Have a little compassion for another human being!!!!
He has blessed our lives with an amazing timeless style and ascetic.

Mo is very unfiltered!
I think deep down in his soul is the beauty, he wants to be kind but also comes from heavy beginnings!
Most of the cats on this site are just blowing smoke and would never say anything to his face.

By all accounts he will stop producing prints pretty soon and focus on commercial work and commissions....
