This is so typical. Graffiti writers who were so gangsters before, who only did illegal and criticised the legal part of the game, suddently transform into fake fancy gallery artists. They stop doing graffiti letters in a couple of weeks and they create something that it's not the style they developed in years just to make easy money. Then, obviosuly, they have to behave to create as much drama as possible to get atention. What a douchebag.

This post is really off the mark. As much as you can Hate the artist or his actions, you know nothing about his history or the history of others like him who have lived real life situations in the streets. Lost loved ones to gang violence, have to live within a city where gang violence is a way of life and keeping safe from of other neighborhoods growing up is a real game of survival. That is what people fail to realize sometimes that although many artists might fake this persona, Retna has nothing fake about him good or bad. You get what you get, you can choose to turn the channel or hope he turns things around for himself. We all have demons at times, and sometimes they get the best of us.

He beats women and acts like a typical spoiled child on IG. People still buy his work? I personally don't know one person who does. MY bet would be that he will end his own career with his behavior soon or later. From the looks of it, he is killing his sales by fighting with his IG followers who normally would buy his work. All Retna does is talk shit to most people who comment negatively about him on his IG. That doesn't equal sales. Time will tell but I would rather have a group of people circle jerk off on a cracker and watch someone eat it then buy anything of his now or the future.

It's easy enough to search #retna on instagram and see hundreds and hundreds of original canvases in collectors homes, galleries etc. I think you're probably pretty far off the mark when you say his sales are getting killed, or that no one is buying his work.

It's ok to not like him. But lets be real, his works sell.

It's ok to not like him. But lets be real, his works sell.

With no proof of sales its hard to determine that. His original canvases could of been purchased when they were cheap and definitely purchased before anyone knew who he really was. Canvases could of been purchased during his buzz. My point is his sales after people have truly seen who he is are def declining. I bought canvases of artists when they were new and price was too good to pass up. Does not mean I think the artists work is gonna go up in the future. Deal was too good to pass up and looks great on my walls.

To think his career is doing fine after him showing people what kind of dirtbag he is over and over again is flat out denial. Pics from collectors on IG means nothing since our topic is about his sales now compared to then. You see any of his latest work on peoples walls compared to before his public diarrhea? I would look more into that and you might find out your comment about his work still being popular these days is more fiction then fact. Lets be real. Plenty of people who bought or buy his work are most likely people who do not follow him on IG or follow him at all anywhere in the social media world.

Know why I came to that conclusion? Because he wouldn't sell anything if they actually saw the type of person he is and people don't really care to follow every artist they collect. I sure don't. You can not count people who purchased his work before he started his public display of Idiocracy. What people purchased before does not count. I can tell you this. You hear the name "Retna" on here very seldom now a days. You see his work being sold on here even more seldom. If you looked into his sales before all of this and look at them now, I would bet almost anything he is not close to doing the same numbers.

Does not take a genius to figure that out. My point being is that social media NEVER helps your pockets when you show people your a crappy human being. Too many examples to point out that proves that notion is true. I do not see many prints being purchased and thats a fact

Not to start an argument here Dobson but if you collect him then thats fine. You need to stick up for your purchases BUT since when do people thrive for causing more harm then good? Its like that old saying dont bite the hand that feeds you. Never turns out well is all I am saying.

Here's the latest sales info I could find. As long as the pieces good examples (like most artists) they beat estimate. Doesn't seem like he's hurting.

I agree, people who buy his work are mostly not on IG or follow him on social media.

But it takes 2 seconds to google Retna and see about his less impressive spectacles. So I disagree that he would never sell anything. I don't think you're giving enough credit to people who collect Retna. Most of them had to work for the money they needed to buy them. And since you, by your own admission know no one that collects his work, how are you to know if they have any idea what kind of person he is?

I own one print by Retna that I was traded. No originals. So please don't try to disregard my opinions by stating that I'm trying to protect my assets. My stake in his success is miniscule.
