I don't get this approach. What's the point to have an auction if the reserve prices are so high? Why not just put the items for sale as a gallery?

For example you had Toxic Mary at your last auction with a reserve at £8000! (without premium!) The last Toxic Mary I know of went for €6500.

The whole point of an auction must be that you take a chance. You might sell below average, but you will have a chance to sell at a higher price.

All sellers are given an estimate of where we see the work. If they choose to go higher they are increasing the chance of the work not selling and it being returned.

I don’t believe insisting that clients accept the risk of a bad result is a sustainable model to bring the best selection of work to the market. Would you consign work you owned with low estimates/reserves? I’ll be happy to discuss consignments if you have work you’re looking to sell.

£333 on every £1k spent puts a lot of people off .then you have to sort your own shipping out if you can't collect.. lots of lots passed..... there's only one winner at auctions and that's the auction house ... saw pejac wound go for £2300 hammer and seppuku £4000 hammer

The seller had the choice to place his estimate/reserve where he wanted. Buyers didn’t meet his expectation so rather than give the work away as other sellers have done elsewhere, we returned the work to him. I’m happy to sell 50% of what we take if, 100% of those sellers are happy with the results.

Sales will be online 2 weeks before so 7th Sep. Highlights will be on view at 127 Fulham Rd, then all works will be on view at Chiswick’s showroom from the 10/11 until the sale on the 21st.
