Chiswick β’ Urban Art Auctions π¬π§, by jay4077 on May 6, 2018 9:50:34 GMT 1, We work with consigners to offer realistic estimates that provide sellers with the protection they want and buyers an accurate view of what they should expect to pay. I would rather return work than give it away. I don't get this approach. What's the point to have an auction if the reserve prices are so high? Why not just put the items for sale as a gallery?
For example you had Toxic Mary at your last auction with a reserve at Β£8000! (without premium!) The last Toxic Mary I know of went for β¬6500.
The whole point of an auction must be that you take a chance. You might sell below average, but you will have a chance to sell at a higher price.

All sellers are given an estimate of where we see the work. If they choose to go higher they are increasing the chance of the work not selling and it being returned.
I donβt believe insisting that clients accept the risk of a bad result is a sustainable model to bring the best selection of work to the market. Would you consign work you owned with low estimates/reserves? Iβll be happy to discuss consignments if you have work youβre looking to sell.

Chiswick β’ Urban Art Auctions π¬π§, by Unica on Jul 22, 2018 10:16:25 GMT 1, I just wanted to give my feedback to the forum having consigned pieces to both the contemporary and urban auctions at Chiswick for the June sale. 1) Excellent service from Danny and his team - Danny gave a bespoke service with prompt replies to logistics and general queries, which went above and beyond what I have experienced at Christie's, Sotheby's or PDP. 2) Collection of the art and return of any unsold art was arranged by Danny and was smooth and seamless without any condition issues on return. 3) Cataloging of the Lots was accurate and the research on the items was very thorough by the team. 3) Payment from the department has been prompt and without the need to chase any funds. 4) The service offered was very competitively priced compared to other middle tier auction houses. 5) I was realistic with my estimates and the majority of my lots sold. I never felt pressured into selling or putting a reserve lower than what I was prepared to let pieces go for. In summary, I can say that I had a first class experience, and wish the team all the success for future auctions. I had a similar experience to the OP.
