Banksy โข Soup Cans Poster, by sufsean on Dec 20, 2017 17:16:07 GMT 1, So you bought with no intention of keeping? Sad day. Wish they would have done a lottery for the soup cans! Haha Good luck with the sale! I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Sometimes you realize it's just never going to make the wall.
As any sales thread relating to this poster or say the box sets...I guess that would have negative feedback.
But like, I'm giving it a discount and would rather deal with you guys, whom I can (mostly) trust

Understandable.
Sadly a lot of these were bought with no intention of keeping.

You mean mental age test? yes surprising how people in the 20-50 age groups act over a piece of paper .
Not many people unfortunately will sell goods under market value .
At least the posters have fallen to ยฃ30-ยฃ400 range before the release they were ยฃ700-ยฃ1000

Banksy โข Soup Cans Poster, by jay4077 on Dec 23, 2017 13:23:53 GMT 1, I don't get it either. Why can't people sell what they want when they want at market price? Yes, I missed the boat on the soup cans, but it is still within reach price wise. Buy it if you want to pay ยฃ400 for it or move on. And why doesn't the guy who had tucked away Jack & Jill away for a decade and made ยฃ10k gets any heat? Clearly he had plenty of time to figure out if he wanted to frame it or not. But all people like him gets is "GLWTS" & "Beautiful picture"

Flipping is making money out of another personโs artistic endeavour. Those that dislike it usually do not suggest the owner canโt sell what they own, merely that out of respect to the community the flipper should take it to Ebay, rather than flaunt their flip in front of those on here that missed out. This is my opinion. It has been the general concesus on this forum for the decade Iโve been here, though I concede less so these days. More recently it seems that less members share this view, and it is quite possible that flipping will become perfectly acceptable here. If that is the general opinion, so be it.

So taking the example above, the banksy that has been sat in a folder as an investment and then sold for many multiples of cost is exactly that isnโt it?

Give it a bit more time and flipping on release day will be accepted here. It is inevitable as more people get into the game. I don't mind paying a bit extra on something I missed out on but 3 to 4x+ a week later is ridiculous.
How can we even determine real market value when the value is being artificially propped up by a small group of people? Galleries buy here then flip on their sites or eBay for much more. Rarely are they selling to actual fans. They're selling to other people that are trying to make an investment. IMO fans don't really care all too much about the investment. Just my 2 cents

Having said that I love the free and unregulated market that Art operates in. I see nothing wrong from selling works at a profit.

Nobody gives a shit that some dude has just flipped a worthless poster to some schmuk who wants to pay 400 quid for one. The vested interest in all this is a circus in itself but enjoyable to watch none the less.

I didnโt really want to get in to a long debate about this, as it causes so much disharmony; though did want to reply to jay4077โs comment. EKAP, I do think that there is a difference. It has to do with the intention when buying. Itโs for this reason that there are sometimes perfectly ethical reasons for selling on immediately.
