Why do people like Stik?, by Coach on Jan 4, 2016 0:01:57 GMT 1,
I'm certainly not trying to inflame things, my friend. I just felt it had to be said. To tell someone that they are up someone's bottom just because they like a different artist to you is out of order and clearly intended to cause a row. I still think personal insults should be kept out of debates.

And I agree, heated debate or discussion is one thing, but there's no need for personal insults.

Why do people like Stik?, by saucyjack on Jan 4, 2016 0:16:35 GMT 1, I think people in North Korea would like STIK as well, if they could see it. Maybe not all, but some. The establishment is too paranoid to allow free speech. It's sad. Not everyone uses TORVPN like me.

I really don't agree with what you say in this post. Apart from the references to NK, which I simply do not understand. But I fear that people do not want to read an argument between us. I've made my point and shall leave it at that.

Why do people like Stik?, by Deleted on Jan 4, 2016 0:43:14 GMT 1, On a personal level.
Banksy makes a different image most of the time on a wall. Which if I was walking down the road and came across one by accident make me admire it, maybe smile, whether I agreed with the message or not.
I wouldn't go looking for a Banksy or any street art but have come across a lot that I enjoyed looking at.
With Stik it is an acquired taste.
One or two is OK on an outside wall but if they end up all over the place, to me they become some sort of visual pollution.

Why do people like Stik?, by tartarus on Jan 4, 2016 0:55:14 GMT 1, How do you know my art has not found it's way into an important collection or two? The fact that you never want to talk about that art. And yet you never seem to shut up about it either. Makes me think your full of shit, and just use this mythical art to try and bolster your point.
Maybe now is a good time to show us the amazing art you made, but refused to sell through galleries as your just too important for such things.

Glad to see you are promoting Stik.

To be fair ploppi did post some work for sale just before Xmas. The harlequin stencils were really rather good I thought.

Parodied and satired very few times not copied.
Looking at all urban artists work one can see similarities in most of them with other artists who made art before. Kate Moss Marilyn Warhol style etc.
Great artists create.
Bad artists need a PR team.
The OP asked why people like Stik.
The responses are varied which is how it should be.
Whats the point of only allowing glowing responses to pander to the flippers who are using this board for free advertising and promotion.
People are not stupid and know what is going on.
There is a Stik forum which considering his rising prices, the next Banksy etc etc etc has very few members including members who post on this forum.

Millions came to Dismaland but how many would in reality buy an expensive print or an even more expensive original.
People who had their book signed for free didn't ask for a small doodle next to the signtaure, looking for a nice little sale on ebay in the future?
Parodied and satired very few times not copied. Looking at all urban artists work one can see similarities in most of them with other artists who made art before. Kate Moss Marilyn Warhol style etc. Great artists create. Bad artists need a PR team. The OP asked why people like Stik. The responses are varied which is how it should be. Whats the point of only allowing glowing responses to pander to the flippers who are using this board for free advertising and promotion. People are not stupid and know what is going on. There is a Stik forum which considering his rising prices, the next Banksy etc etc etc has very few members including members who post on this forum. Sure, just ignore the thousands of people who turned up to his book signing. they are not on that forum so therefore do not exist. Just stop it now. Millions came to Dismaland but how many would in reality buy an expensive print or an even more expensive original. People who had their book signed for free didn't ask for a small doodle next to the signtaure, looking for a nice little sale on ebay in the future?

Why do people like Stik?, by Deleted on Jan 4, 2016 14:47:18 GMT 1, Not compulsorary to join a fan forum if one is a fan but considering the internet is global and reaches globally one would assume the amount of members and type of discussions on a fan forum a good indication of how popular an artist is. I do understand that fan forums need to be advertised on social media so that fans are aware.

Why do people like Stik?, by nds on Jan 4, 2016 15:00:55 GMT 1, Rather than attempting to defend STIK as a testament to contemporary art for the work he has done for the community or the fact that he does not seem to be influenced by fame, I think is not justification for liking that specific piece or art. Does that not undermine the very reason for buying art itself?
I think his work just adds to the confusing of contemporary art. I struggle to appreciate or enjoy a block colour with a few lines on it that represents what I use to draw 1000’s of times over as a child. Despite whether fame does not affect him, or he donates copious amounts of money to charity and saves the planet (exaggerating), it requires no skill or thought to generate that piece. I don’t think the fault is of the artist in anyway it’s the fault of a post-modern society lacking meaning or purpose.
Although saying that each to their own that’s art.

That forum has existed for five minutes. Has been wrapped up on secrecy and is in fact run by someone a fair few of us just dont trust. I opened an account and closed it as soon as i figured it out.
And thats before you consider the sales for 2 Grey Stik baby prints that were listed on there and created even more suspicion!
bit pointless arguing it all though. As Stik has pretty obviously already had a lot of success and the fans here and the demand for his pieces pretty much show that already.

"Something I drew 1000's of times"
Yes but did they look more like this
Since all of us drew these, but in reality is isn't really what Stik is doing now is it! I see it as a weak comparison.
I used to draw these as a kid too.
But it doesn't mean I'm capable of painting van Goughs sunflowers now does it
