Why do people like Stik?, by Stoko on Dec 28, 2015 22:32:12 GMT 1, I agree. Important street work and very iconic but a one trick pony and I will nver understand why people pay so much for a folded crappy print let alone an OG. Each to their own. Some people don't like JBoy apparently...

Just looking for someone to shed some light as to why they love Stik art.
His work fetches insane prices and I can't comprehend what the allure is...I wouldn't pay $5 for it.
I like how he gets so much detail and emotion into 6 lines. thats the crux of it. Unless you have seen a stik up close its the little details he does to the lines which captures this.
on the other hand, its a stik man innit and everyone loves a stick man.

Why do people like Stik?, by Fake on Dec 28, 2015 23:33:33 GMT 1, I have met him a couple of time's before he got big in the scene and I have to say he is one of the most interesting people out there. At first my reaction was, who is this bum? He was wearing a very dirty fluorescent jacket two sizes to big. He showed up late at an group show with live painting and he was the very last artist to start with his work. He started painting the 1 color background and was done in about 5 minutes with that... and behold he started using his cans as flamethrowers and giving a great show making his art! it was the highlight of the evening! Talking to him you immediately notice he is different from every person you ever met.
I think he is one of the true artists out there as a person! Different, interesting, 100% him self, does not care what people say and does what he loves and believes in.

Have you met many people?
and using spray cans as flame throwers is downright dangerous.

Why do people like Stik?, by natstan on Dec 29, 2015 1:57:44 GMT 1, The belief that emotion and simplicity denotes the importance of his work is unbelivable. It's not even minimalist, or whatever you call it. There are many other works out there (read: julian opie) which bring emotions and simplicity in a human study together far better. A fine chap he may be, but I can't help to think his work is just hyped up to the max by speculators.
P.S: okay, opie's works have more than 6 strokes

Why do people like Stik?, by Wearology on Dec 29, 2015 2:06:51 GMT 1, Why is Vanilla Ice Cream consistently peoples favorite in most surveys. Much like with Ice Cream, a lot of people like simplicity in their art. The only thing more simple to create artistically besides a stencil is a stick figure some would say.
1. Vanilla (29%)
Vanilla as a flavor was first recorded as used in food by the Aztecs during the 1500’s. It was introduced to the Spanish conquistadors when they traveled across Mesonamerica. The Spanish were transfixed by the many ways vanilla was used in traditional Indian food and drinks, which is why the Spanish brought the vanilla bean back to Spain and throughout Europe by the 1600’s.
Vanilla ice cream was thought to have been invented in Asia in the fourteenth century. Ice cream making spread from East to Europe when Moors and Arabs traveled to Spain and refrigeration became prominent in Europe. By the early 18th century, Italians and French were making vanilla ice cream, or frozen vanilla desserts by making smooth iced concoctions blended with sugar, eggs, and egg yolks in the recipe. The first ice cream recipes recorded by the French in the early eighteenth century did not include egg yolks.

At least stencil art can be elevated to something far greater with real skills (like penny etc). Not that stik has to jump out of his few strokes, but what else can he do to further his craft as an artist?
The fact that news headlines keep linking any street artists with banksy smells of the sensationalizing of the importance of that said artist.

Yeah did see that, he got some pretty outrageous drips on his piece using low pressure spray paint that didn't look like he planned them there. On the other hand I saw his piece on the block of flats from the train and was pretty impressed by the size of it. Also seems like a really nice person but that doesn't really account for a great artist, take Mr brainwash for comparison. Not my cup of tea though.

Hardly in 5 minutes, more than 10 years now
I know he's been around for many years I'm comparing the 5mins to create a piece compared to the years of studying art and being trained as an artist and mentored etc. I don't think stik has had crazy PR or a manager like some artists who were hyped up and then came down with a bang. So that's a good thing.

rparducci • That's a good idea ,have you got any pictures of what exactly you meant? Was thinking of maybe ornate in red too? What are your thoughts
Daniel Silk • The number or Boards and Threads continues to fall as we simplify the layout of the forum.
Daniel Silk • I hear a lot of Artists complaining about Instagram in the past year, how it used to be a good tool for Artists, but it's not good anymore, is that true?
anyaart • For Brett Kern fans, I noticed there is a spinosaurus for sale on E-Bay. It's a limited edition, one of only 60 made. This is the rarest of his dinosaurs. I am not the seller. I already have the same dino purchased in 2016. I've never seen one up for sale
Daniel Silk • Apology • Sorry I have been offline this past few weeks, due to a very bad Fever. I'm slowly getting better, step by step, and catching up with things here on the forum on the days I'm well enough. Thank you for your understanding.
Boy Wonder • I read that they were more or less nicked the same day they went up. Loads of fakes exist.
milou2 • Would love to see any photos of Banksy's first exhibition at the Severnshed in Bristol (2000). Who was there?*
jirr • Hi all, over here in the states. Pandemic put me out of business, need to sell this asap. Please send offers thanks so much
matgab • Steven Harrington - Gotcha first ed for sale.
1nkling • I can't help but think that a more reasonable tier for people who just want to support the work you guys do would raise more income. Then other tiers for those that want specialist benefits.
1nkling • As soon as I saw the heading for the email I thought 'Oh yeah, I use that place a lot. I'd happily support it'. Not at £40 a month though. I have a paid sub for a Formula 1 site I use that is very active. They have a high uptake on subs at £12 a year.
1nkling • Pricing on the new supporters sub seems a bit poorly thought out. £40 a month to have a pinned sale thread being the only listed benefit?
Daniel Silk • The forum now has more than half the number of Boards than it had a year ago! As we work towards simplifying the layout.
