Jean-Michel Basquiat πΊπΈ Brooklyn, New York β’ Graffiti Art , by Deleted on Feb 3, 2014 8:45:43 GMT 1, Hello to all the forum,
First, I would like to tell you that all the art i've been selling were either through galleries, auction houses or art brokers. But never through a forum because at least for me ( no disrespect ) , but when you sell serious art, forums are generally not the best way to sell.
Second, I do not see anything wrong being a new member of this forum. You all started this membership thing by having your first thread here weeks, months or years ago. It is absolutely normal to be new here.
Third, I did try to get a coa from the Basquiat Estate, but they do not provide any coa anymore since 2012, bad luck. I contacted Anina Nosei, who told me there is no way to possibly get a coa on a Basquiat but only from the Estate itself which stopped doing that. So i cannot sell it through an auction house without that paper. So i tried a forum here to see maybe some serious interested collector would be interested.
Last, I did mention " time wasters " because i've seen a lot of potential buyers sending offers in the 10,000$us range for art of six figures or more value. So i just tried to save time and mention that i do not want to receive all that. Sorry if it sounded too strong to serious people in here. Didn't mean it like that. Hope you understand.
thank you for your time

If none of the major auction houses want to touch it, what makes you think anyone here will want to pay top dollar for it?

Jean-Michel Basquiat πΊπΈ Brooklyn, New York β’ Graffiti Art , by Deleted on Feb 3, 2014 9:24:59 GMT 1, I did not say that all auction houses do not want to touch it. I said that generally auction houses sell art that are accompanied by a coa of the Estate itself. And it is impossible to get a coa from the Estate as you know. I tried, but they don't do that anymore. I could list it on ebay, but thought it would be much better here, as it is an art forum , more targetted audience. So yes, my first post is what you all can see and read.
thank you

Then what the FucK are you doing here?....
You have basically said, through your own admission, that you know this is a crappy knock off that you couldn't sell through any respectable avenue, so you thought you would try to rip off the good ( I use that term loosely) members of this forum.
Well BRAVO to you, you'll fit right in.

Jean-Michel Basquiat πΊπΈ Brooklyn, New York β’ Graffiti Art , by Deleted on Feb 3, 2014 14:52:25 GMT 1, Mr Fart,
If you know any serious auction house that is willing to sell an original Basquiat drawing without an Estate certificate, please let me know. All the art i've sold have the respective COA or LOA. It is NOT my fault if the Basquiat Estate stopped authenticating Basquiat art. I contacted Mrs.Nosei who told me herself that there is no way to get any COA from them. And noone else will do it , and if they do , it's like it doesn't count. So i am offering this beautiful drawing with coa, because simply the Basquiat Estate stopped that. Instead of just complaining and complaining post after post, maybe you could be smarter to maybe take a look and grab a bargain. Many artworks without provenance, without coa, sell for bargains while they would sell for thousands or millions with the proper paperwork. So no, i am not looking for fools, for stupi people. I am looking for art collectors who appreciate art and that would be interested in a wise investment. If you do not wish to purchase such items, feel free to wait for the next Sotheby's auction, and pay 1-4m$ for a nice mixed media drawing. But stop dissing a new member so much for no reason. Your behavior doesn't mirror one of a serious art collector.
My kindest regards

how is something a "wise" investment if there is no chance for a COA? To me that sounds like a rather stupid investment ( and that has nothing to do with the price )

So i am offering this beautiful drawing with coa, because simply the Basquiat Estate stopped that. Forget the COA. A work that was produced during the Reagan administration should have a very clear and verifiable provenance. This is doubly true for an artist who was very famous throughout the majority of his career. Everyone who owned this would have known it was something special. The fact that it's not already in a museum or in the hands of a major collector makes it immediately suspect. Why didn't previous owners have it authenticated (before 2012)? Why didn't previous owners have provenance? Why do you believe that it's real, besides the word of the seller?
Unlike the COA, not having a provenance IS YOUR FAULT. A piece of modern art purchased without it will be, as a default, considered a forgery, and with good reason. Taking someone's word that a piece is real just doesn't fly. I'd put the fair value of your drawing at around $100.

lovedrive21 - If you truly feel that is not the case, then my advice to you would be to go see Jeffrey Deitch or Tony Shafrazi and cut to the chase.
If they won't touch it you probably have a real issue.

This is the crucial question, that I don't think has been answered. Let's not assume it has no provenance at all, until that's what the seller says. I know it has no coa, and why. Does it have any provenance at all?

On top of that, the range of prices for Basquiat drawing is huge. Price range from low $10ks to mid 6 figures all depending on size and quality. (and I've seen & been offered really ugly ones with full prov & COA)
Top auctions houses wouldn't disregard a work just because there is no cert or even perfect prov (especially if they know there is no active committee anymore). They would definately do their due dilligence unless it is really shady. They wouldn't pass on a large possible settlement that easily
