Most of his originals are in private collections, but they come up during the fall and spring auctions at the big auction houses. You just need to be very wealthy to win one. You can find screen prints (most of which were done by the Basquiat estate after his death) at several galleries like:
www.guyhepner.com/content/content.php?id=464
and
www.hamiltonselway.com/basquiat.htm
I wanted to own something actually signed by the artist when he was alive so I bought a book of his drawings, and the images are fantastic. But of course even a signed book is expensive these days:

Those are amazing, great work.
However what a surprise Iβve been negged. Too many people on here get far to upset/take things personally when a stranger may disagree with them, surely this is the idea of a forum, a discussion, two or more sides/points of view? Grow up.

Jean-Michel Basquiat πΊπΈ Brooklyn, New York β’ Graffiti Art , by theministerofsound on Apr 3, 2007 3:31:47 GMT 1, Most Basquiat prints were not signed or numbered. There are some limited edition lithographs available from various galleries in the States.
The tricky part with his stuff is that many of the limited edition lithographs are not that interesting. In fact, most are rather plain.
And on a different note, there's a "Dr." in Canada that sells the occasional Basquiat original on eBay. They are fakes. I think his name is Falco but I'm not positive. Stay away, no matter how convincing he sounds.
Hope this helps.

Jean-Michel Basquiat πΊπΈ Brooklyn, New York β’ Graffiti Art , by jp on Apr 3, 2007 8:44:36 GMT 1, Basquiat prints never come up on Ebay because ebay is a terrible place for people to sell expensive art- they usually lose 20-50% of what they would get through a traditional auction house or gallery. Most good art in my experience is simply not available on ebay. You are going to need to call galleries, which is easy enough. I would recommend first becoming familiar with what's out there are know what you want. When you know what you want, go to artnet.com and search for basquiat. Here's what I just got by doing that:
www.artnet.com/ag/fulltextsearch.asp?searchstring=basquiat
there are 50 galleries listed. Look through them and start calling to discuss what they have and what you're interested in. Comparison shop for best results. Good luck!

Jean-Michel Basquiat πΊπΈ Brooklyn, New York β’ Graffiti Art , by woolander on Apr 4, 2007 10:35:29 GMT 1, Hello
I've just returned from New York and visited a couple of galleries. Original Basquiat's are very hard to come by and will cost a fortune - but I did see limited edition print's that were re-done officially (like they have done with Warhol's) say through a fondation for more affordable prices - and there good.

Jean-Michel Basquiat πΊπΈ Brooklyn, New York β’ Graffiti Art , by stjohn on Jun 26, 2007 17:48:02 GMT 1, For those who are interested in acquiring a Basquiat print, I have spotted there are two coming up in a Christies auction on 18th July 2007. They are 'cheap' by comparison with several millions of quid for an original.
These prints are part of a set of 4 released by his Estate after his death and are of images which have not otherwise been released.
0436
Lot details After Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988)
Untitled (Head) screenprint in colours, 1983/2001, on wove paper, signed in pencil on the reverse by the artist's father, numbered 71/85, published by the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, 2001, the full sheet, in very good condition,
Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000 British pounds
PRINTS & MULTIPLES Sale 5244 18 Jul 2007 London, South Kensington
Lot details After Jean-Michel Basquiat
Untitled (Ernok) screenprint in colours, 1983/2001, on wove paper, signed in pencil on the reverse by the artist's father, numbered 71/85, published by the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, 2001, the full sheet, in very good condition, framed L., S. 1015
4,000 - 6,000 British pounds PRINTS & MULTIPLES Sale 5244 18 Jul 2007 London, South Kensington
Info from here: www.christies.com/LotFinder/lfsearch/SearchResults.aspx?entry=basquiat
Images can be seen here: www.f2gallery.com/artists/basquiat/index.html
Before anyone asks, I am not the person selling the ones above. I am just interested in his work as he was the first artist to bridge street to studio, and his work is seriously strong at the moment and can only go up - its just the prints seem a good way of having the images which are worth millions otherwise.
Hope you have found it interesting.

Jean-Michel Basquiat πΊπΈ Brooklyn, New York β’ Graffiti Art , by Pattycakes on Jun 26, 2007 23:38:02 GMT 1, They are also complete shit. They were published about 6 years ago, J-M Basquiat died in 1988, thus they are little more than posters, albeit rather attractive ones. There is nothing about them that has anything to do with Basquiat other than they are after his designs, who cares if the estate authorised them, it's basically a callous way for them to trade on his name and make more $$$. Basquiat made a handful of Authentic prints in his lifetime, as far as I can remember it's about 20 (and that includes the anatomy portfolio of 18), the best one called back of the neck recently made $180,000 in New York, a long way from the crap coming up at CSK!

I hear what you say, but I disagree:
1. they are screenprints and not posters (I fully admit pulled after JMB's death and not by him)
2. they are of images created by HIM, and more importantly, of images which have not otherwise ever been released since the Estate have kept the originals.
Whilst I see the point you make, I disagree. See here where he is very much alive standing next to one of the original images (Ernok) which has now been made available in screenprint form after his death:
