Cope2 ๐บ๐ธ New York Graffiti โข Fernando Carlo, by Petrusino on Apr 11, 2014 20:37:30 GMT 1, I sent an email to Cope2; He replied to me. For me this is enough to continue to love and respect this artist ... In addition, he also posted on his twitter a photo of "the legend Andy Warhol..." (which is not the most admired artist by an homophobic)
Now I hope nobody will feel offended if I say that I love these signs that I was waiting for these from long time and that I continue to be a big fan of the artist who madeโโ it.
"Please man when people are pissed off cause another asshole wants to disrespect we always stupid s**t
I love gay people I have tuns of gay friends for many years so let people say what they want
I love everyone the problem is the idiots who have so much hate in there heart and want to disrespect someone or assassinate there image and character all the time with phony rumors and lies
But if any gay person feels disrespected cause of my anger bulls**t my deepest apology I love gay people muahhhhhhh!!!!
You can post this for me if you want
thank you"

I think it showed him to be a rather sad and deluded character.
Also there is the past beef with others about him being a Grass.

I think it showed him to be a rather sad and deluded character. Also there is the past beef with others about him being a Grass. Yes Wiz, maybe it's bulls**t what he did with the Banksy's joke; but he is certainly not Mr Brainwash ; he surely already knew from the beginning that the truth would jump out quickly ; the joke, seen through the eyes of another writers may have seemed fun. To me he just wanted to draw some journalist about his art , and have a laugh with some other writers. I do not think that there is so much to be offended ; he also spoke well of Banksy ; I think anyone who loves the art in the street must love and respect artists like him , who make art in streets before everyone else and continue to make it and do it well . This man made errors like everyone, but he does not just streetart, he grew up in the street with an education and rules different from those with which we grew up. He has worked with all the graffiti legends, with Fairey, Retna, and more; and all of them show him respect and admiration. it is really a legend in graffiti and streetart, his fame grows increasingly also in urban art because his style is iconic, "pop", and also with a long, strong, raw story to tell. But I understand that tastes and principles differ from man to man.

Cope2 ๐บ๐ธ New York Graffiti โข Fernando Carlo, by Deleted on Apr 12, 2014 17:23:34 GMT 1, I wasnt talking about MBW fella, just Cope2.
No way he started that fake Banksy collab as a joke, he had been angling for a Banksy collab for ages and when Banksy was getting all the attention and still didnt want a collab with him Cope went ahead and said he had done one!, he was called out online and found out to be a loser. It was said on here at the time it was found out that Cope would be haunted by the action in future.
To be fair, i do like some of the Tags he does though, he is a legend i know, but a somewhat fallen one IMO.

Cope2 ๐บ๐ธ New York Graffiti โข Fernando Carlo, by Petrusino on Apr 12, 2014 17:32:08 GMT 1, I do not like an artist just because he does a collaboration with Banksy. I love him irrespective, especially if he is a graffiti legend; then if he does also a collaboration with banksy I like him twice; but only a colab with banksy is not enough for me to love an artist. So I don't care so much about this story; However, I understand what you mean.

You're giving me a headache. For goodness sake, cope is only a tag of his name. That's it. Nothing else. I don't care about his history. (Mom always says...'if you keep looking in your rear view mirror, you're gonna crash.) I care about the now. And as far as I'm aware. The only thing cope has given to the 'street art' world is a tag of his name, and a dirty mouth filled with homophobia and racism.
You post as if you may be a little smitten with cope. Be aware, you have been warned, he's not into that.

Indeed, It Seems that you do not like graffiti. Write their name on a wall has great significance for those who have no other way to be heard; it means I exist and you can not ignore me. "COPE" is just the most famous throw up in the world . I asked him to apologize for those of you who have felt personally offended. He asked me to post it here on a public forum his apology; if he was really homophobic I do not think he would have agreed to make his apology public; Perhaps those excuses were not enough for you; I understand you. I'm sorry. But you know that the sensitivity of those who sold drugs for living, has lived in the midst of gangs, has been in jail, has seen friends die from gunshot wounds, is not equal to yours or mine. I will not post anything more because I understand that you took it personally and I do not want to hurt you. Peace

Alternatively though, you could reach out to cope and in a non confrontational way let him know how his comments effect you. You might be able to help bring about real change in him. Maybe not but it would be cool if it did. My bet is his comments come from ignorance rather than real hate.
I know I have said some ignorant things that I regret. It is easy to turn hate on hate. But it is really special when you can change the way people think through thoughtful dialog coming from a place of trying to help rather than punish. The Gandhi way in a way.
Just a thought. Real change won't happen unless someone is the bigger person and reaches out.

Cope2 ๐บ๐ธ New York Graffiti โข Fernando Carlo, by mmmike on Apr 13, 2014 20:26:36 GMT 1, Thanks all for the nice words but really not necessary and the feelings expressed are mutual. Sometimes I'm a bit put off by all the talk about making money on prints but all and all I have a great time on this forum.
I should also say Dirty Pilot hooked me up with an amazing Seen painting a while back. I'm trying not to buy much any more but it was too nice to pass up and the service, communications, and shipping were all outstanding and the price was good. I'd recommend them without reservation.
But while I was hoping to add a cope piece at some point, Otto's comments have made me think twice. I hope the two of you work things out.

Cope2 ๐บ๐ธ New York Graffiti โข Fernando Carlo, by Ottomatik on Apr 13, 2014 20:33:54 GMT 1, Any citizen of this country can turn on the tele, open the paper, look on the interweb and see all of the hate directed at the LGBT community/individuals. We are at a tipping point here. I'm sure cope is aware of this. For goodness sake, he's on twitter. Without a doubt, i can say that cope knows it's wrong to use such hate filled language. He's an adult.
Mike, I've tried to have non confrontational conversations with many people in the past 21 years of my life. My grandmother and I did not speak the last 7 years of her life because of this. In her eyes, I was/am going to hell. I don't have the will to help others understand my way of life. Either they accept it or they do not. People are stubborn and adults don't like changing their beliefs. Or even put in a position to question their belief . Either way, mike, thank you for the well thought comment.
As for the DP 'crew,' I find it odd that you broke your 'no comment policy' to praise a forum members comment, (deserved, yes!) instead of addressing the issue and showing your stance. If anything, you're selling his work, maybe it should be your crew that could have a civilized conversation with him about the topic at hand. Seems you're in a much better position to create change than I am. Then again, maybe it doesn't matter to you. And honestly, that's ok.

Cope2 ๐บ๐ธ New York Graffiti โข Fernando Carlo, by dirtypilot on Apr 13, 2014 21:09:04 GMT 1, Hello Otto,
While I understand your position and respect it, I have watched threads and recently watched comments about the Black book Gallery. I feel these debates are bigger than us and I see no use in perpetuating anger while hiding behind a computer. Those who know me (Alan) and DirtyPilot, I hope have enjoyed the artwork we have brought to market. We love what we do and I think we do it well. We take this very seriously, but debating online about actions and language of artists is not our core strength.
Feel free to reach out to us at our email if you have concerns, we are always available to have engaging conversations about art and artists, the art market, etc. I feel if you have beef with an artist, you should go to them.
The NYC Old Skool graffiti culture which is our focus is an exciting, historical and no doubt full of imperfect humans. We try not to be judge and jury, we base our commitment to a level of talent and history and market conditions.
We feel strongly that if it were not for the NYC graffiti writers of the 70's and 80's, out there risking it all to paint the trains, the Urban and street art movements you revere and collect may not exist as they do today.
We wish you well. best- Alan
