Banksy • Paranoid Pictures, by HowAboutNo on Jan 11, 2007 13:47:45 GMT 1, moffla2003 is/was connected closely to Banksy as far as what I have (limited amount) read, along with "thethugsdontwork" they were eBay moderators up unitl late last year and then started to both get pissed off at all the talk of price price price and nothing to do with the ART. Around the time of Flags going on eBay, things went a bit pear shaped and thugs deleted all the members off eBay forum. I take it this is just another swipe at the carpet baggers. And clockwork tortoise is a well known pain in most people's rear ends!
Make that Iron Tortoise! Doh. But he's very well known. lol

Banksy • Paranoid Pictures, by monochrome on Jan 11, 2007 15:23:46 GMT 1, Mr Tortoise has listed severla sough after prints in recent weeks. Anyone who watches Banksy listings will be aware that he's listed close to £40k worth of stuff, only to pull it with a day to go.
In contrast he has sold a lot of minor work, along with the Di Faced Tenners which went all the way. He could be saving on ebay costs by pulling out, but I suspect he hasn't got any of these items at all, but in fact are straight from the Laz website. He tends only show stock photos.
Furthermore, he has recently purchased 6 Flag prints (check his feedback) and I've noted in the past when bidding was more visible that he has bid on many Banksy items, but never actually purchasing them.
One would draw many conclusions, but I'm tempted to say that this is someone with a lot of time on their hands, and or someone connected to Banksy in some way. He's artifically bidding up many items to a 'minimum' whilst in the past he has been found to be shill bidding his own items.
Make of this what you will, but I FEAR, yes FEAR that someone is artificially pushing the Banksy market higher for their own personal gain (and maybe that of the artist himself, ie. create a demand).
Eitherway, it's odd.
And worrying.

Banksy • Paranoid Pictures, by RBK on Jan 11, 2007 17:10:43 GMT 1, I've always suspected people artificially bidding prints up because they own them. Tortoise is just a blatant offender. Sure there are lots of people out there doing this - and with Ebay masking the user ids of bidders now it is going to be harder to detect.

Banksy • Paranoid Pictures, by RBK on Jan 11, 2007 19:36:17 GMT 1, He is notorious for: 1. bidding on almost every Banksy that comes up for auction, yet never winning them. Think mcfc on the Ebay forum stated he bid on over 80% of Banksy prints in 2006 2. putting up auctions of very impressive stock, yet pulling them - think it is probably just to bring more attention to his few auctions that he 1. actually has the item, 2. will let run to the end

Banksy • Paranoid Pictures, by lesroy on Jan 11, 2007 23:26:29 GMT 1, I can only assume that's how he sold his J&J for over a grand last week... either it's bollox or he is just saving fees by pulling the large valued items.
I can imagine that the fee for a £20k pallet is pretty hefty yet if you email the buyer you still have your sale with out the fee?

Banksy • Paranoid Pictures, by dwight on Apr 5, 2007 17:33:15 GMT 1, I saw that auction. 7k is cheap now, but at the time it seemed about right. At the time, signed prints were going for a good bit less. Also there were some stains on the back which you can see in one of the pictures... I don't think it was a scam auction

email the buyer and ask what went on and if they completed etc. let us know how you get on.

Why would yo be suspicious of people selling something out of Singapore?? Are you racist? Don't like the humidity? Maybe you think that English people are the only honest people on the planet.
I live in Singapore, and I own 3 signed banksy prints. Are they fake because I live in Singapore??

Banksy • Paranoid Pictures, by ABC on Apr 8, 2007 7:12:59 GMT 1, I think you have to be suspicious of people selling banksys everywhere nowadays. I know for a fact that a lot of fake and back door prints have come out of Japan over the last year or so, so I'm always a little weary about prints from there.

please don't be offended, i merely stated you would exercise a bit of caution as anyone who has kept an eye on the secondary market will know that an increasing number of banksy's are being sold out of asia. it's not racism, i have seen an arctic monkeys single that was released only in the uk and restricted to 1000 cd and 1500 7"vinyl and yet sellers in malaysia have numerous copies. not to say they are dink, just perhaps you should exercise some caution.
also we are talking about an original, probably from laz inc in london directly, rather than signed prints from www.picturesonwalls.com - availible worlwide.
it's easy to pick up on one little comment and dwell on that alone. oh and by the way, i'd never buy any trainers or branded clothes from a seller on ebay that was from asia. if that makes me a racist then i'm sorry. i just base my opinions on personal experience and that is that there is a large contingent of bootleggers that operate on ebay in that part of the world, that's not to say everyman in every country in asia is dishonest. i would just exercise some caution when certain factors are in place.
we have plenty of dodgy characters here in england and i would say the same about them, but then i wouldn't be accused of being racist.

Banksy • Paranoid Pictures, by krazy on Apr 8, 2007 14:07:42 GMT 1, Thanks to those people that dropped my respect down... you must feel pretty strongly that most forgeries come from places like Singapore and Japan.
There was 1 guy from Japan that's known to sell a few fake Banksy's... and do you know what? I got in touch with him when enquiring about a piece... it turns out that he originally purchased them from ENGLAND.
Sorry for sticking up for the country I live in. Next time I'll realise that most of the worlds scams are done from Singapore.
By the way.. here's a few facts for you that might make you reconsider which countries to trust (Where's Singapore, Japan or any asian countries on the list???):
"FBI statistics reported in Wired Magazine in 7/2006 reveal that 71% of all online fraud originated from within the U.S. in 2005. " (snip) "Other countries included in the statistics are: Nigeria, UK, Canada, Italy, China, South Africa, Greece, Romania and Russia. Except for Nigeria, all countries constituted less than 5% of the fraud investigated by the FBI. Nigeria constituted nearly 8% of the online fraud investigated."
Also.. while I'm ranting... most of the CD's, DVD's, etc you see on the streets of Bangkok, Malaysia, or China are originally duped in the USA. They're only sold in a more open environment in Asia because the police have more important things to worry about. The customers are also predominently westerners too.... go figure.

Banksy • Paranoid Pictures, by BME on Apr 8, 2007 14:28:09 GMT 1, Hi Timbos,
I don't think anyone was suggesting that your pieces aren't genuine or that the majority of sellers in Asia are fradulent - they are clearly not. To be honest, given the value of Banksy prints these days I would never bid on any print, irrespective of the location of the seller, without proper provenance; likewise if a piece did have provenance then the fact that it was located in Japan or Singapore would not deter me from bidding. Anyway, its good to have you on board as part of the forum so respect from me and thanks for participating.

Now back to Banksy... 20 each for my prints.. hmm... I'm sure I can get at least 30 for them

I actually went around to the guys house and inspected this canvas. Looked pretty legit to me, so did the receipt that he had for it. I decided not to buy because I felt that the yellow spots were caused by mould... which doesn't go very well with canvas!
I'm still not convinced that Singapore is a hotbed of fakes.

Banksy • Paranoid Pictures, by tomhills1 on Apr 8, 2007 17:25:04 GMT 1, timbos, as i said in my second post i do not think singapore malaysia thailand etc are the epicentre of the counterfeit world, everyone knows that beijing is . my point was, it was a long way from home, a lot of money, no feedback exchanged, differing numbers in the listing and photo and like i also said it is not uncommon for forgeries to be sold out of southeast asia for the very reasons you quote: the police have other things to worry about. not very reassuring when someone takes a bunk with 7 grand? you highlighted one point out of about 5 that were to be considered and chose to talk about that only.
i don't doubt for one minute that a whole load of fake gear originates in the western world, just don't shoot me down for suggesting that a lot of that gets sold out of asia as detection rates are much lower.
i hope i didn't offend you in any way, not my intention but i stand 100% by what i said in the first place. all the little indiscrepancies add up to arouse my suspicions. i didn't buy it and i'm saying why i wouldn't have. no need to have a diplomatic episode though is it?
