Very few artists besides RAE in the street art realm put so much working into the details and texture of their work. Jose Parla & Vhils come to mind. Takes things to a different level.

Not a fan of "chicks that paint chicks" ?And you work with female artists on the Miami project ? hopefully they don't read this board. Not sure why my backdoor comment is relevant to your thoughtful critique. I'm rather well known (and in some circles highly regarded) for my dick and fart humor. Also, I am an open book about my critique of women who paint women. Why critique can't exist is the exact problem I spoke of in my other post. I happen to think all the female artists who participated in the project are great talents, that doesn't mean I have to then restrict my general critique of women artists who primarily paint women. Happy to take this debate to another thread. Nice save, good to see those "chicks that paint chicks" being elevated to "female artist" status. Peace

Women are great.
Was Whatson making a statement with his ballerina portrait?

If Tati and Myla are offended by my language I'd be surprised. Clearly I'm speaking off the cuff. So I presume you are critiqing my delivery vs the concept. Also, while Myla paints chicks from time to time, chicks clearly aren't the main focus of her / their work. I've had discussions with Tati about the women painting women phenomenon and she knows that I'm heavily critical of it. For what it's worth, when it comes to BEG (big eye girl) Art, I believe Tati is the top of the mountain and is uncommonly skilled in here tone, developed backgrounds, etc. I believe she's is highly under priced and undervalued. To me she is a standout, the exception to my generally qualification of the statment. For every tatiana suarez there are a dozen, if not 20 female artists painting primarily of not exclusively female subjects and save for the rare standout (tati, Kawasaki, and a few others) I'm hard pressed to find any value in the "also rans"
But by all means, keep running your cocksucker to try and make me feel bad.

Top pickup of 2014, by Deleted on Dec 30, 2014 22:20:56 GMT 1, When it comes to street art, the subjects tend to revolve round womens faces , skulls, squiggly things and rodents etc.
Women in art are generally more saleable to the Ikea crowd.
Even Harrington throws in a nude woman in his editions for the sell factor.
Who cares if the art is done by a man or a woman or dare I say it a collective.

Top pickup of 2014, by sin on Dec 30, 2014 22:22:55 GMT 1, Millions of people like McDonalds, this argument of "everyone likes it" holds no weight and is actually a great argument against it. ย Art isnt about how digestible something is. ย This is pretty pictures on canvas. ย Style is not vision. ย "cool" isnt a way to define art. ย Talent is everywhere, what makes a great artist is their ability to push, fight, break ground. ย This is not that. There are plenty of artists collected throughout this particular forum that I cant stand, some of which I feel have zero talent, zero drive and have pushed zero boundaries, so I get what youre saying. But understand, I never said "cool", even though I think plenty of great art is also very cool, and my argument was actually quite different from your response, so much, that I feel you didnt read the post. You can go on a tangent about great art not being digestible, but we're in a forum that praises street art, pop art and lowbrow art. Majority of which uses iconic imagery as a base, all of which is quite digestible for the masses, street art has to be, or it gets covered fairly quickly. You can also argue the points of "push, fight, break ground" but it all boils down to taste, talent and longevity. I see a new Peter Gronquist and im just as excited as I am looking at a Doze, I can see an Albert Oehlen, Jacob Kassay, or Rashid Johnson and it gives me the exact feeling as my Chevrier, my Curiot and my Mike Giant's. That list is all very talented and the prices range from $400-$300,000 but the feeling, for me, is identical when I stare at the works and smile. I have the ability to appreciate the works for what they are, and why they are. Theres a place in art for Sandra, just like for some god awful reason theres a place in art for Faile (Who's talent I cannot see, or digest). Like I said, I feel her talent is recognized even if her work doesnt belong (fit) in your collection. I personally think she'll eventually evolve, and has the raw talent and base to do so. For example, Look at someone like Mars-1. In 2002 his works were almost the opposite of his works today. I believed in, and invested in him in throughout 2000-2004, and Im very happy I did. Now, he's flourishing....ย Mars-1 2003 Mars-1 today
How on earth you can put Mars1 in the same category of people who are all style no substance is beyond me. Mars is a visionary and that was true in the early 2000s as it is today. While Mars may have evolved to be 10x what he was, he was amazing then and is amazing now.

Like I mentioned before, I'm happy to take this into another thread. While some male artists may paint women, include women in their compositions when there is a financial motivation, there is a small countries worth of female artists whose solely paint women. In my valueless trite bullshit opinion, women who paint women are stuck in self exploration and as such few of these women become tide changing, movement defining based on that. It's not about painting women, it's about only painting women and specifically that while there are some women who truly set themselves apart there are troves of women painting the same style and poorly vs the best of their genre and for whatever bullshit reason these women get shine. This same phenomena exists in music, bands and DJs alike.

When things are too digestible they risk chasing the tends and holy fuck is that a dangerous place to put art. While Pop art appropriated Pop culture, everything I've read about the topic and discussed about the topic shows me that most didn't "get" it. street art, pretty pictures that are "cool" and appreciated by 80% of someone's family and friends frightens me, because that shows me it isn't challenging people. It's Taylor Swift and some day Taylor Swift will be passรฉ.
Something being digestable is the end of a revolution and when things stop being revolutionary you end up with a ton of shit. When people start making art driven by something other than passion and hunger then it's no longer creative but craft. Hey but what the fuck do I know, I'm probably wrong and Mr Brainwash will have a retrospective at the MoMA when I'm an old man

ps. This place IS style over substance watch debates of meaning fizzle out and turn into discussion of money, watch meaning or lack of meaning discussions get attacked 'because I just like it', watch fans have no real reasons and refuse to discuss meaning - heart warming.

It's Taylor Swift and some day Taylor Swift will be passรฉ. Something being digestable is the end of a revolution and when things stop being revolutionary you end up with a ton of s**t. When people start making art driven by something other than passion and hunger then it's no longer creative but craft. Hey but what the f**k do I know, I'm probably wrong and Mr Brainwash will have a retrospective at the MoMA when I'm an old man What pains me is the new wave of 'muralists' armed with cherry pickers and hard hats, given massive walls with nothing what so ever to say. You've been given a central city 20 meter high wall, say something don't pain a big black and white f**king ferret. Amen to that They can't even use the reason they're getting up Illegally Here's the money paint me something - sad state of affairs Blu where are you??? ps. This place IS style over substance watch debates of meaning fizzle out and turn into discussion of money, watch meaning or lack of meaning discussions get attacked 'because I just like it', watch fans have no real reasons and refuse to discuss meaning - heart warming.

Blu, the only real one out there, but he's too scary for them, he might paint something that turns a head, remember what he did to Jeffry Dietch, just beautiful.

I see s**tty graphic designers called "artists" and somehow they managed to catch the attention of many people. And Ive seen that same thing happen time and time again over the past 16 years with hundreds of artists.
Sandra, I still feel is better than that. Its all opinion, and only time will tell. I do have a solid track record tho
sin you have a problem reading. Mario is a friend and isnt in the same "category" but was an example of an artists complete evolution.

Happy New Year If Tati and Myla are offended by my language I'd be surprised. For every tatiana suarez there are a dozen, if not 20 female artists painting primarily of not exclusively female subjects and save for the rare standout (tati, Kawasaki, and a few others) I'm hard pressed to find any value in the "also rans" But by all means, keep running your cocksucker to try and make me feel bad. Apology accepted big man. Happy New Year
