It wasn't the tubes, but the way they packed the tubes. Kayrock had 15 prints and looks like at least 3 are in less than perfect shape.

The tubes had one piece of cheap clear packing tape holding on each cap which would explain why all of them were missing a cap and the other cap was punched in the tube itself. Mine included.

The tube itself was also quite large, 5 or 6 inches in diameter. At that size you need to have something very sturdy.

Not sure if more tape or stapling one cap (1xRun does this) would have made any difference based on the comments about the tube quality posted here, but either way a huge let down to come home to.

I emailed her studio, more as an FYI. May make sense for any who have received damaged prints to do the same. Mine's still in the mail - fingers crossed.

The LP is a thick cardboard sleeve with an actual record in it so it should be ok. I'd just check the corners when it arrives but I wouldn't worry about it. Plus from what people have said LSC is great at packing and shipping prints.

the way these caps are taped on is amateur hour. everyone knows to tape around the edge and fold it in so its secure and doesnt pop in, they should also know to add extra paper so if the print or paper moves, its covered. Shocked at the lack of care for a $1000 item.

must have cost 50 bucks to print these. I'd be packing em that way too if that was my cost.

There is a lot of confusion here.

First - these damagaged prints seem to be from KayRock, due to s**tty packaging methods and materials. Maybe they kept 15 as payment for printing? They also effed up the sales with no inventory control.

People are now lumping LSC into this fiasco. LSC are great people. JJ is top shelf and they pack well. The LP's are coming from LSC and should be fine. It's totally unrelated. I just bought the pose print and the LP from LSC (not yet delivered) and I previously got some original works from the pose Dubai show that literally went round the world - no damage.


Also - my blek ballerina arrived same way from DK at artsfund. s**tty tube, pushed in cap. One piece of tape. Lucky no damage but many had the same issue

Seems like non-galleries sometimes throw it in a tube and pray for the best.

To hold the paper strong right there, so the print won't break when trying to lift it up. Poorly done. Try to carefully peel apart the tube instead. Fukkers. How difficult can it be to package things properly.

The blue tape is there to hold the print but it is so wrongly tubed.

The print should NEVER EVER touch the tube; the print should be rolled and thinner in size than there tube so there is a gap between tube and print itself. Reason for this is that if tube is bent or cracked or hit, it doesn't affect the print.

To hold the print, normally some newspaper at the bottom and end, as well as side (in empty space) should be enough.

So true !!  Artists and hobbyists, all my 50 GPB originals were packed in a professional way because I care and I have google for best guidelines.

I have followed the Maya Hayuk thread but this is print is really a 1000 USD print ?? Did I miss something here ? Ouch !!

And sorry to hear about those damaged in transit by Kayrock.  Just unacceptable.  How they don't have the paper beyond the edge of the print is just mind scratching.

as much as i would like to say the artist is not to blame, this is a learning experience for her. don't let some knuckleheads sell your prints!!! it's called quality control, and it's very important for brands in any industry.

I think they've worked together since the beginning-ish. I'm sure Guitar Parts was printed by them in 2008 for example

I'm pretty sure the blue tape is a kind of light adhesive tape, used quite often at printshops. I use it to tape rolls of vinyl together, since the blue tape doesn't leave marks on vinyl.
I would not recommend using it directly on prints tho.. :/

Anybody bought the LP from overseas? How quick was the delivery? Bought one last week, but no reply from kellie at all after I paid. Not even an acknowledgment to my subsequent query on the shipping date till now.

Also bought one.  Was told they would ship 'next week' which is this week.  Haven't received a shipping notice though.

Yes it is, as you say it has a light adhesive quality and is papery. It is favored by screen printers, but I'd employ it for sticking onto screens when I need to, but not for use on delicate and absorbent printing paper.
