I think Laz was involved in some on the list. He did have a big selling exhibition at Sothebys but it was free entry, mibbe thats what your thinking of ?

But is seems a little unjust not to acknowledge it's an "unofficial show"...
There has been a problem with the onselling of art at hyperinflated prices into the secondary art market since time began.
Usually I thought living artists don't mind prices for works in the secondary market rising because it lifts the price they can charge on their new upcoming work.
What artist likes to live in poverty? So many do. So I don't resent them one bit for getting better prices for their new work..
Trouble is Mr Bansky seems to "sell" the concept that his primary work is "for free"...
Maybe he should stop doing that?
Problem is his primary work (street art) is put on display always in the public... on the street...
I think he needs to find a way to charge the PUBLIC... ie the councils, cities, indeed nation states that are now clearly benefiting from the art being displayed (tourism etc)..

Why do you feel conned? You payed $15 to see some great Banksy artworks. What's wrong with that? I pay more than $15 to see most art exhibitions in London. I have no idea if they are with the artists consent or not. And, quite frankly, I don't care either way. |

Despite all the posts on the subject, I still don't quite understand why Banksy hates 'unofficial' exhibitions of his work. If I was a famous and rich artist, and someone in Russia decide to put on a show of my work without my consent, I wouldn't care in the slightest. It means people in Russia would get to see my work which otherwise they would never get to see. Why should I object to that? It seems almost churlish and mean to object. |
