Banksy.co.uk • Official Banksy Website , by Deleted on Oct 26, 2018 16:15:10 GMT 1, I've never really understood why Banksy gets all hot under the collar over so-called 'fake' exhibitions. What's the difference? Does he get paid for the 'real' exhibitions? Probably more concerned that people are paying high prices to see something that they think is official, and he'd rather his public shows were free or very cheap. That's fair enough if he wants his exhibitions to be free. But I don't see why that makes the paid ones "fake".

Probably cost you a few quid to get there but its still free to go in.

What's the difference? Does he get paid for the 'real' exhibitions? He surely won't get paid for the fake ones. An exhibition usually has a theme. And pieces that belong within that theme. The fake are just pieces put together to be monetized. And some are organized by Laz, which I believe was not a happy break up. (Correct me if I'm wrong there) Regarding the point about getting paid for exhibitions, is it usual practice for the artist to get paid when a major gallery puts on a solo show of the artist's work? They would, of course, get paid if artworks are for sale but most gallery exhibitions are not selling the artist's work; just displaying it.

He is a living artist and any exhibition that exhibits his work must obtain a license/consent from Banksy. But because who he is i.e. he doesn't follow up on the image rights and people know that so these unscrupulous twats are making money on his name. That would not happen with any other artist.

You don't need permission, obviously, but as Banksy is still alive he's able to voice an opinion.
But, Tate probably had permission from the estate of Picasso... as they probably sold official merchandise too.

I think you’ll find that it had a lot to do with Pablo Picasso; Tate would not put a show of this nature on without agreement of those who look after his estate.

But if they got all the paintings from art museums and galleries around the world and from private owners then why do they need permission from the estate of Picasso? Indeed, do they need permission?

No, i don't think private collectors of any artists would need permission.
I think we have 2 things here
Exhibitions that show an artist and there is no selling involved
And exhibitions which are put on with the main aim being to sell things.
So effectively a gallery, in the case of the russian show it being organised by CAT galleries, AKA contemporary art traders, AKA Lilleys fine art Ltd
Here you have a show in Russia, check out the link
banksyexhibition.com/
have a quick read up, imagine your not an expert like we all are. Whose show does it look like? Who has set it up?
but when you look further it was from the guys above
as a side note
does anyone know how it ended with the Invaders? Was it a happy ending?

Yes you are right, as Van Gogh biggest exhibition in Amsterdam in the 90, as exhibition at this moment about Balthus in Bâle. They are not fake at all and were/are more expensive ( at Le Grand Palais per example ) than the « fake « Banksy ones named here ( not so much expensive too ). Maybe Banksy Should call the real exhibition, « My « shows, and the other ones Exhibitions about me where I’m not involved. Copyright is fir books and music no ? Or reproductions ? It’s true that a lot of the fake exhibitions have been made with some catalogues or goodies to buy and Banksy did not earn a penny. It seems that LazvsBanksy is not finished at all and I already thought to Laz. Anyway, As said, the prices of tthe entrance of these « fakes « are not so high. But the real and great shows, incomparable, are without context Banksy shows !! Top and classy ones !
For the WOH, even if you say « it’s free « , it is not. We have to go to Palestine, it means, to pay a plane, hôtels etc.. I cannot afford that at all. So - for me - it is very expensive even if it’s « free « . Don’t play with the words I think. Even if, ok, it’s free ! But... Next show in France ?

The reason for all my posts on this thread is simply because I find the subject quite interesting, however strange that may seem.
I don't actually care if Banksy gets pissed off with fake exhibitions or not. But I am quite interested in whether art galleries need "permission" to present a solo exhibition of an artist's work, whether that is Banksy, Picasso, Tracey Emin, or Paul Cezanne.

Banksy.co.uk • Official Banksy Website , by Lroy on Oct 26, 2018 21:53:38 GMT 1, This is simply a moral choice, the artist who created the works has made his thoughts on these "fake exhibitions" crystal clear. There's no argument for the people involved having the artists interests at heart, this is self interest solely, there's no argument for it promoting the artist, he's more than capable of doing that 100 fold. The people visiting could argue they just want to see Banksys, but at what cost, if you were standing in front of the artist and he expressed he was unhappy would you still go? Like everything in life it's about choice, the artist spelt that out in his statement. great analysis. Deep, quiet and smart. Thank you.

He bullied the person that owned all of the prints into refunding all the stuff he’d sold at a profit. Very shady.

I was only pullin your puddin a tad, your line of question reminds me of RouenCathedral’s formerly known as Murrke.
Line of questioning aka gaining facts is a no no here!
Never heard of him/her/it. Are they a contributor to these forums? I just had a look at the members list on here and couldn't find that particular name. I was only pullin your puddin a tad, your line of question reminds me of RouenCathedral’s formerly known as Murrke. Line of questioning aka gaining facts is a no no here!

Best thing banksy ever did in my opinion.
