Signed Limited Edition of 100 from Rashid Johnson, Kaws, by trapnel1 on Jan 30, 2022 11:04:57 GMT 1, Only Kaws is sold out. Not Pendleton not Party. Not Ruscha. What does that mean? Like the plates. Only Nara could match this mad demand. Letโs see how Hirst do tomorrow.
It's interesting. Obvious thing is that users/followers of NTWRK are more tuned in to a particular type of artist (KAWS being the prime example....)
Other than that, size, format (giclee) and image may not appeal in the case of some of the artists. On the linen background (especially the black) I think these will display well.
Both the Ruscha and the Party seem very typical of the artists work (or at least one strand of it), although personally I'm not a big fan of Ruscha.
In the case of the Party, his IG post explains the background/context and the imagery and colours are very characteristic. The modest size is not unusual for his prints, and don't think there is anything remotely like this available at this price. I suspect it will sell out in time.

Signed Limited Edition of 100 from Rashid Johnson, Kaws, by trapnel1 on Jan 30, 2022 9:35:49 GMT 1, Does anyone have confirmation that the Nicolas Party is hand-signed?
It says it is; they changed the description more than once but have finished with that.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by trapnel1 on Nov 29, 2021 10:13:01 GMT 1, Unremarkable - ยฃ1500 - now ยฃ15000 Unremarkable- ยฃ0 to ยฃ3500 ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ Why are you putting words into his mouth? He could be saying that his are unremarkable compared to the other ones (i.e. a piece with middling stats, common traits, no fancy backgrounds), but of course, if someone complains, then it's about the monetary value. Get real.
That's exactly what I was saying... No rarities involved. Just happy to be part of the experiment.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by trapnel1 on Aug 17, 2021 14:49:34 GMT 1, According to the HMRC website, if you gift the item to a spouse, who then sells it, the gain is only calculated on the difference between market value when you gifted it to sale value. Not sure how easily that is in practice but seems straightforward on their website Not quite the loophole youโre looking for - gifting is classed as disposal so youโre also paying tax on the difference between initial purchase and market value at time of gifting. If the spouse/partner then sells it theyโre liable for tax on the difference between market value at the time of receipt and the time of sale.
You can gift to a spouse or partner in the UK, with no tax paid. However....
"If they later sell the asset
Your spouse or civil partner may have to pay tax on any gain if they later dispose of the asset.
Their gain will be calculated on the difference in value between when you first owned the asset and when they disposed of it.
If this was before April 1982, your spouse or civil partner should work out their gain using the market value on 31 March 1982 instead."
On the plus side, no tax liability if you gift the asset to charity!
They should keep a record of what you paid for the asset.

Would like to hear from new artists, by trapnel1 on Jul 19, 2021 23:07:49 GMT 1, I think Harveyn is the only FG left here Guardians had very little power. I donโt think the could allocate artistโs stars. I think they could only close threads. I could be wrong.
You are definitely right!

Need advice on authenticating my new books, by trapnel1 on Jun 16, 2021 12:01:16 GMT 1, Hey, i recently purchase some Invader book and I'm asking myself how be sure it's original. Do you have any advice to legit check them? Is there some expert how can certify them on Paris?
I have never come across an issue with fake books. Some older books can be purchased as "print on demand", but are clearly different to originals. There are also reproduction printings of highly collectable books, but they are invariably identified as such.
The position with author (or illustrator) signatures on books is very different - plenty of forgeries and caution certainly required, in particular where a genuine signature would add considerable value.

Super A - New print and book, by trapnel1 on Jun 5, 2021 0:00:43 GMT 1, Got it today too! Amazing book and quality and type of printing! A bit quirky (no side), popup pages and signed at last page! No side is so strange to me is that how they all came with no spine covering ?ย Great foldouts and loads of images cant wait to dig into it but having no spine cover seems off, but i'm not a book guy.
It's a traditional Japanese style of bookbinding...

Jonas Wood Charity Bananas Print, by trapnel1 on May 19, 2021 20:31:54 GMT 1, I liked the Bromeliad print, but for all the reasons highlighted above just don't like this one. A few of those became available to non-members after the deadline.
And apparently one more print to come as well.... A good organization to support however.

Recommended Art Books, by trapnel1 on Apr 6, 2021 15:45:38 GMT 1, Hello fellow forumites! I could really appreciate your wisdom on an item I recently purchased. It's the following Nick Cave book. It was published in 2001. On the top it has 4 penguin stamps and a number: 08/2000. Does any of you know what the meaning of these stamps is? Thanks in advance! Interesting - I've seen a few copies over the years, but never one with the stamps. It has been reissued a few times since and updated to include new songs, but I think without the Banksy designed cover. Pretty uncommon now, and I can only find a couple of copies in the ยฃ30 - ยฃ75 range with no mention of the stamps.
The Banksy cover version of "And the ass saw the angel" is also pretty uncommon nowadays....

Art & Mental Health, by trapnel1 on Apr 4, 2021 18:56:41 GMT 1, Whenever I feel depressed or overwhelmed with things, I used to go to London and sit in the Mark Rothko room at Tate Modern. As a hardened atheist, I guess it's similar to how religious people feel sitting in a church. I think Simon Schama sums it up beautifully in this short YouTube clip.
The Rothko Chapel in Houston is a fantastic place...... spent an hour their on my own one very hot July day a few years ago, which was very close to a spiritual experience.

Wipeout book, by trapnel1 on Mar 13, 2021 23:41:17 GMT 1, Not sure what you mean. Are you saying that when invader signs a book he always adds your name and doesnโt just sign it โinvaderโ? As for French comics where there are a lot of flips, authors have found that with the first name ( or they dint sign it), comics books as less flippable than without, because it becomes a personal gifts and not a signature as a signed book. I have few books signed by Invader, ask everybody, they are all signed with the first name ; itโs a good way to eliminate flippers or crazy prices , as itโs not a ยซ signed book ยซ as if it was a small edition etc etc For me itโs the answer to those who are flipping Invader signed books at crazy prices.
The problem with signed books is that, unless they are special limited signed editions, many signatures are easy to forge.....

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by trapnel1 on Mar 13, 2021 14:31:23 GMT 1, Lovely piece and GLWTS... Iโve never understood the shape- is there a reason for the cut corner? The only reason I can think of is so that the name 'Meprobamate' can be spelt out on the penultimate row using the controlled substances key. Though that doesn't really explain why it wasn't just made an 11 by whatever grid. Just ignore me. I remember being told that this and phendimetrazine are the only two spot prints which have more than one spot of the same colour, because the name of the title drug is coded on one of the rows. The controlled substances key print which was sold at the same time allows the title to be decoded from the appropriate row....

Invader โPrints on Paperโ Book , by trapnel1 on Mar 6, 2021 19:41:34 GMT 1, Nope. There are. Book is commercial Merchandizing ! I sold a book from France to UK ( the Think tank Tab book - Book ), eBay automatically charged the buyer of 15 quid for a book sold at 50 ?!?! I could not do anything. I don't know why ebay charge taxes but there is NO customs tax on books. Maybe it's another tax but no customs at all. Books are part of exempt products. Agreed - definitely no import duty, VAT or other customs charges on books being imported to the UK. The Ebay decision is an interesting one - don't know what is going on there, but it must be to do with their pratices.

New Banksy? Reading Prison , by trapnel1 on Mar 5, 2021 18:53:03 GMT 1, And The Ballad of Reading Gaol was published under a pseudonym - C.3.3. (Oscar Wilde's cell number) - so nobody knew who the author was (until some time later). The third edition (limited to 99 copies) was signed by Wilde, but it wasn't until after the 7th edition was published that the name of the author was widely known. Considering the level of detail that Banksy has gone into, including the Bob Ross reference, surely the logical conclusion would be to follow it up with a print in a signed edition of 99! (wishful thinking)
The first edition of The Ballad of Reading Gaol was 800 copies (unsigned - wish they were worth as much as as Banksy's!) plus 30 specials...... At least they didn't need to worry about the bots in those days.

New Banksy? Reading Prison , by trapnel1 on Mar 4, 2021 18:37:45 GMT 1, Since I had no idea what this was all about I did some searching : The Ballad of Reading Gaol is a poem by Oscar Wilde, written in exile in Berneval-le-Grand, after his release from Reading Gaol (/rษ.dษชล.dสeษชl/) on 19 May 1897. Wilde had been incarcerated in Reading after being convicted of gross indecency with other men in 1895 and sentenced to two years' hard labour in prison. During his imprisonment, on Tuesday, 7 July 1896, a hanging took place. Charles Thomas Wooldridge had been a trooper in the Royal Horse Guards. He was convicted of cutting the throat of his wife, Laura Ellen,[1] earlier that year at Clewer, near Windsor. He was aged 30 when executed.[2][3] Wilde wrote the poem in mid-1897 while staying with Robert Ross in Berneval-le-Grand. The poem narrates the execution of Wooldridge; it moves from an objective story-telling to symbolic identification with the prisoners as a whole.[4] No attempt is made to assess the justice of the laws which convicted them, but rather the poem highlights the brutalisation of the punishment that all convicts share. Wilde juxtaposes the executed man and himself with the line "Yet each man kills the thing he loves".[5] Wilde too was separated from his wife and sons. He adopted the proletarian ballad form, and suggested it be published in Reynold's Magazine, "because it circulates widely among the criminal classes โ to which I now belong โ for once I will be read by my peers โ a new experience for me".[6] This explains why Bob Ross was included in the video... Hirst Cherry Blossom Edition Size, by trapnel1 on Mar 2, 2021 17:03:34 GMT 1, ...and Damien having to write his name 8,000 times. Look up an auto pen. He isn't signing his name.
It will be interesting to see if the signatures are all the same. I would be very surprised if they use an autopen - too obvious. It would be less surprising if others signed on his behalf, though we'll probably never know. I'm not sure it matters greatly; posterity will view these as signed by Hirst.

It would be less surprising if others signed on his behalf, though we'll probably never know. I'm not sure it matters greatly; posterity will view these as signed by Hirst.

Auction/Gallery/Private, by trapnel1 on Feb 17, 2021 12:15:02 GMT 1, I didn't even know that this was a thing. I will look into it as looks like it might be a decent option. As for 0%, what is in it for the auction house to sell with no commission?
They will still be charging the buyer....

UK Import Customs Charges ๐ฌ๐ง, by trapnel1 on Feb 13, 2021 21:10:29 GMT 1, Considering the prices I pay for the pieces themselves, the admin charges are negligible. But when you buy a KAWS book for 50 quid and need to pay 4 euro tax and they charge you 21 euro, because of 17 euro admin, your 50 quid book is 71.... My point is it's not in proportion to the tax itself on low amounts. It's a waste of time and money. Shouldn't be any charges on books. That was the case pre-Brexit for all book imports from anywhere, and I don't think it's changed...
