Visit NEW YORK 🇺🇲 Street Art, Galleries, Events, by thesewalls on Feb 9, 2015 2:01:40 GMT 1, I am most excited for Lala Abaddon at the moment. Showing at a new gallery in Manhattan (Castor). 2/26 I believe. Same, love her work. Always great to stare at for strange amounts of time. Oh and some dick tagged over the Borf on Castor Gallery's storefront. Real shame. "Bunch of savages in this town." The graf kids def don't make it easy for anyone. A wall's a wall but the storefront is a low blow for sure. Ebb and flow.
Speaking of flow, Lala's work moves...the pieces really have a life of their own! Glad to hear there are other as excited. I think she's going to knock the socks off some people with this show, we shall see. Peace bruv.

Etam Cru 🇵🇱 Sainer & Bezt • Street Art • Print Release , by thesewalls on Feb 7, 2015 13:50:44 GMT 1, Hoping 1xrun will help me w/ a Sainer since their site glitched on me; kinda glad I have the Bezt since I have a lot of pop/cartoony/urban art at my place and that will help balance things out. It's likely the only way they will help you out is to sell you one at the next archive sale for 2x as much. I had a similar problem a few years back but they told me "sorry, we have none left" only to find them selling that exact print during their bullsh*t archive sales. The good thing about 1xRun is they make it easy for artists to get images in the hands of people and do procure some nice images from great artists. The bad thing is they are greedy as f*ck and are willing to participate in shady business practices to increase their bottom line. Don't state a print is sold out if you held back 10% to flip in the future. If you want a tiered pricing when the edition gets low be upfront about it, its not that big of a deal. They also occasionally make an absurd number of AP's and don't disclose how many there are to the best of my knowledge. One might argue the archives are the best thing since biggie smalls. It was a great opportunity in the first place, now it's an even better one (for someone else). That sucks about your glitch mob. Sh*t they haven't emailed me back about two different things. But they know their audience, market, how to prioritize and especially how to present. I enjoy the opportunities they create on both ends of the market. Flipping your own sh*t is par for the course anyway. They're a 'walk in the park' compared to other places. Sh*t just for fun the first thing that comes to mind, I have two of the same print from the same print house, yet each are from two different edition sizes/runs. The shadiest thing I've seen 1X do so far is during an archive sale it said 1 left and I bought it then when I checked something else later I saw the print said 1 again. Maybe not 'greedy as f*ck' but shady for sure. So clearly they have flexible morals, but I believe when closely examined most businesses do. It's not so much a manipulation as it is a deception. And for what, a hundred dollar print? That's nothing compared to the ridiculousness that goes on in the rest of the art/world. Maybe I'm just a jaded New Yorker but at the end of the day they are running a business...without that there would be no service to these artists, and the scene would grow and evolve less. They have a big cake to bake (running your own business can be ridiculously hard), gotta at least get that frosting nah'mean? I'll buy a print that I love even if they don't reply to my emails. I bet you'll still cop too...maybe not tho...maybe you are more diligent...less addicted...all the power to you nonetheless just riffing here. And I really am interested in how these (and other) circumstances affect your consumption (or lack thereof). What would it take to loose your business completely? What might it take to get you back? An affordable print by one of your favorite artists maybe? Oh and for whatever it's worth (I think someone asked), the quality of the prints 1X produces, they're fine. Nothing special. They serve their purpose; pictures on walls. Rant over.

Jan 28th Lazarides Auction..., by thesewalls on Jan 28, 2015 10:31:33 GMT 1, way too many legal walls/murals, the scene is stale. this IS the scene now. not what it used to be no doubt, fresh as ever though.
i remember when it was a big deal that people started using stencils...then it was a big deal when they started pasting...now there are more people using all 3 mediums then ever. people are pushing each other...there is serious momentum...
graffiti was born out of hip-hop culture. hip-hop got commercialized, this is just part of the process. you gotta keep digging in the crates if you want freshness. it's out there, for those who know. there was all this talk about hip-hop dying after pac and big and puff's sh*tty samples, money and ho's and whateverfuck, and now it's getting back to being raw an f*ck. i saw a mural by the low bros for the run the jewels tour. now tell me that's not fresh!

Thoughts on Retna, by thesewalls on Jan 28, 2015 10:06:28 GMT 1, I could take or leave most of his work, have to respond to this line though;
"...but all I see are different versions of a similar design..."
This could be applied to a large number of artists, just imagine all the "one trick ponies" out there...

Are there anymore good street art/Graff blogs?, by thesewalls on Jan 26, 2015 7:36:31 GMT 1, Seems like it's moving more towards individual platforms - many artists and galleries engage through social media - insta being the biggest of course. Some of the best feeds are from festivals and the like; passionate, committed artists and fans living and working in the industry.
Long story short I got nothin'

Banksy prints now available @Laz, by thesewalls on Jan 23, 2015 23:28:30 GMT 1, Im calling it - bonhams will be the last hurrah. until the cycle begins again blates Having followed / collected for a very long time, my experience would suggest that the Bonhams sale has little to do with banksy (after all we're talking unsigned pieces here, although obviously some good sales to strengthen prices would be seen as a positive) and all to do with conor. As for the banksy market, realistically how much more can unsigneds inflate? We've been in a rapidly expanding period, there naturally has to be slow down. The banksy market is totally different to any other urban artist though it has to be said. Maybe less about inflating and more maintaining? I'm thinking more in general, not so much this auction/release specifically. Exciting time nonetheless! Hard to imagine it going down since reaching the tipping point, which in my eyes was the NYC residency followed by the HBO doc. Maybe that's a unique perspective by a huge fan from NYC tho?

Banksy prints now available @Laz, by thesewalls on Jan 23, 2015 22:35:41 GMT 1, Meh not going to happen, at worst it will stabilize for a few months....I really don't think people realize the level that Banksy is on or the market share that he has, it's not like anything that we have seen "print" and "OG" wise in a very long time. On top of that, out of the small edition size of prints lets take into consideration that were printed, how many are left in salable condition? etc.... Let's see where Bonhams takes us next week. Im calling it - bonhams will be the last hurrah. until the cycle begins again blates I would wager LAZ has reps there gassing it up, and buying for top dollar.

Banksy prints now available @Laz, by thesewalls on Jan 23, 2015 22:29:29 GMT 1, just an attempt to distort/inflate prices again is my guess "oh, we happened to find these prints under our grannie's bed. let's sell them at market value" aka "we've had these prints for years, and slowly release them over time in an attempt to decrease supply and increase demand/prices" oops. did I say that out loud? Distort/inflate...one might say 'control'...seems he has the power to do so...not only through sales but acquisitions...where's BONGO?!
