Visit NEW YORK ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by danvnuk on Jun 25, 2007 16:45:40 GMT 1, I went a few years back - don't know about street art etc,... but...here's what sticks in my mind as interesting...
Little Italy, Chinatown etc are well worth a wander around - think of every film you've ever seen set in the back streets, with the Fire Escapes and all that - really cool.
The Greenwich Village and Soho areas are both cool too.
Obvious tourist place, but the view from the top is unbelievable- The Empire State Building
Shops - loads - but again, Saks and Barneys stand out (Wasnt keen on Maceys)
Eating - Balthazar was cool:- www.balthazarny.com/
Drinking - Campbell Apartments in Grand Central Station was good www.worldsbestbars.com/city/new-york/campbell-apartment-new-york.htm
None of this might be to your taste, Its huge and there's loads happening 24/7 , so I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time and find your own stuff to do.

Depends on what you are looking for. If it's streetart action then head to Brooklyn and wander around williamsburg for a bit great stuff there. of course you have to check the East Village into the LES and over to SoHo and Chinatown for some classic and great stuff.
Also. PM me closer to the date and I will let you know about a secret Banksy Mural in NYC.

Visit NEW YORK ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Mrs Mouse on Jun 25, 2007 19:34:35 GMT 1, At the start of your holiday, I would take a bus tour so that you get an overview of where everything is. We went with Grey Line and took in the Uptown, Downtown and Brooklyn loop. Each loop is 2-3 hours so you get to see a lot of places, and the tour guide will tell you what's what.
I'd recommend taking the Statton Island Ferry. It's free and takes you close to the Statue of Liberty. On the return journey you get a really good view of the skyline of Manhattan. Ground Zero is not far from the Ferry terminal, and is well worth a visit.
If you're looking for cheap accommodation, I would recommend The Big Apple Hostel, which is 2 mins from Times Square. It's very very basic but spotlessly clean and cheap as chips! I booked over the internet and had no problems with the booking.
If you need any more information, please pm me. Have a great time!

But the rest of them are superb! Wow, loving the lady liberty and the monkey. Is it just me, or does he look an awful lot like GW?

still, it was pretty cool to see how that building changed over the course of the weekend.

i thought the whole thing was supposed to be buffed by now too. frankly, a nice brick facade would look nicer at this point.
wonder if the work inside is still up or if people have raided the place?

Visit NEW YORK ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by BK83 on Apr 7, 2007 3:26:22 GMT 1, Yeh its true about Spring St., It's sort of sad in a way considering it's history. To be honest -- and I hate to say it because I love the guy -- it was all Jace's fault that it has succumbed to what it has. he pissed a lot of people off when he was in NY for the Wooster on Spring project. He went over some nice stuff on 11 Spring without getting permission to be a part of the show and then to make things worse he went and got a permit to do a huge wall ont he corner of East Houston St. and Bowery going over some old school Graf Host18 and (forgot the other guys name) from DYM. They in turn retaliated by doing huge, HUGE, HUGE DYM over everything at 11 Spring and that's what turned the building into a bit of a turf war. Kind of ruined what it was about. Incidentally OMNI went and got a permit to go over the Jace piece on Houston and Bowery.... who knows where this will end up....

yea, Jace went over Host18 and Taboo's pieces on that corner. the Jace piece on Houston got bombed over already too.
between the graf vs. streetart and the splasher, it's a wonder that anything in NYC stays up for long.

Take a wander round soho too- often get artists selling stuff on the street. Some guy who does wildstyle tags on subway maps there most days if thats your thing, and Ive got other canvasses and stuff from people selling on streets there. I check it out most weeks and there is always someone different selling in the area.
