New Hecox is up, by dodge on May 7, 2008 18:00:04 GMT 1, I think Arkitip have caught on and have put the price up and edition size up.
Agreed. Still pretty cheap mind. I love his stuff, although he can be a bit hitty/missy for me. I really like his landscapes but will eagerly await his change in direction. I hope he doesn't go too far out!
Cheers for the heads up btw! Just bagged one ;D

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by dodge on May 4, 2008 14:29:47 GMT 1, Following my recent request for backdoor prints, I managed to get a Monkey Queen thanks to a kind board member. Does anybody have any more they could sell me for a reasonable price? ;D Dodge you obviously have more money than sense, how much have you paid so far for these fakes? What's the fraudulent sales pitch you've been given? If you clearly understand what these are,how do you work out the value? When your friends come round and ask you if its a Banksy,is this what you say? You - 'Yes it is' Friend - 'where's the number or signature?' You - 'Oh,it has'nt got a number or a signature, its a copy of the originals. Friend - - 'ok cool, how much did you pay,£20,30? You - 'No mate a few hundred pounds' Friend - 'How much? You've been ripped off!! Friend walks away in disbelief.

Nick Walker Nozzle?, by dodge on Apr 30, 2008 19:21:44 GMT 1, web.mac.com/nickwalkerz/iWeb/Nick%20Walker%20Art/Gallery.html
It was on here for ages but it looks like it has now sold out with all the hype around him these last few weeks. Even the weaker stuff that was on there for months appears to have gone! Madness
If I remember correctly it was an edition of 100, priced at £50.

Antony Micallef hits all time low over weekend!, by dodge on Apr 29, 2008 21:16:00 GMT 1, I personally never "got" the Micallefs that were on POW. That's OK. Seemed like a lot of money for those prints and that he was really just getting dragged up by Banksy sales, as do a lot of other artists in the POW "stable". Micallef has a lot of talent, but the prices on his stuff at the L.A. show were unbelievably high IMO. I can't remember the exact prices or the run sizes but I recall thinking 30K for an original charcoal drawing that looked like a college student's work???!!! The print edition sizes were high too as were the prices on those. That show happened when the rest of the art scene was going through growing pains and prices started skyrocketing. No one wanted to be left without something by Micallef in case he turned out to be worth as much as Banksy. What were the prices on the Minotaur prints? 2K? I remember thinking, Micallef hasn't been around for so long to be asking that much money on such a large run. But, what do I know. People bought them all. Normally, I can't be stopped when it comes to buying something I want. But those edition sizes and prices were a huge red flag. The fans did not force Micallef to set those prices or edition sizes. Micallef did that on his own. Can we blame Laz here? JK. Though I feel that Laz/Blu is a great example of what we are discussing. If Micallef had put out editions of 100 and prices them at 1K each, he would have made a nice score and the prints would be going up instead of down. Is Micallef getting harmed by all this? I don't know. Will people start thinking a little more rationally before doing the F5 dance? I certainly hope so. Is it possible for Micallef to reprice his work a little lower without getting pissed on? Dunno. I suspect that Micallef will have a nice career with his talent. There just might not be anyone falling over themselves in a sellout panic the next time. Is that a bad thing? I don't think so. Everyone is going crazy for the next big thing. There are collectors who want the work and will hang it. There are investors who collect. There are collectors who invest. There are investors who flip. Then there are collectors who get caught up in the latest release and jump ship to be with the "in" crowd. Take your pick. At some point, everything comes up for sale. No one is guaranteed a proper return on anything or even to break even. Only buy what you like in case you're stuck with it. And, quite honestly, with all the flipping that has gone on lately, people are going to be taking a bath on some of this over the top priced sh#t. Imagine charging 2-4K more for an image that is done on canvas, just because it is canvas. Good grief. The latest flavor is Nick Walker. While I thought his Mona stuff was near crap and wouldn't hang it on my walls. I could understand someone thinking if would be a fun piece to have at a reasonable price. Sure the latest stuff is a big step up artistically, but the same drum is beating for Walker that beat for Micallef. Everyone is tripping all over themselves to get this stuff. I bet half are just along for the ride for a quick score. Who will be the next star in two months and "what do I need to sell to afford it"....hello eBay...hello Nick Walker. It still amazes me that Banksy prints sell for what they do. Banksy, IMO, isn't a particularly "good" artist. He is clever though. At some point that cleverness will wear thin and the last round of buyers to pony up 10K for a choppers with a bow tie or Jack and Jill will be be holding the bag. Sometimes artists or their gallery supervision get the pricing wrong. Fans can be trendy and fickle. But take Shepard Fairey as an example, he keeps prices low and has been in the game for a long time. He's built a loyal fan base over time. The same can not be said for a lot of other hip artists and there will always be someone else who comes on the scene and steals the last stars thunder. When that happens, it is not surprising that some of the current popular trendy artists get burned along with their "loyal" fans.
;D People might not like to hear it but some good points here.

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by dodge on Apr 28, 2008 21:39:18 GMT 1, I think there have been many decent points put forward, the problem is you don't wish to listen to anyone with an opinion that differs from your own. Please list what you think the decent points are dodge? I do want to hear other peoples opinions as this is what forums are for. Is anyone going to commit themselves fully in defence of these prints. At the moment its very half hearted, which leads me to believe no one truely believes they are right.
Please read the thread and interpret as you may....

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by dodge on Apr 28, 2008 21:15:37 GMT 1, Anyone reading this by now has realised the people who are defending these prints are conmen or lacking in any common sense. And still no decent argument put forward? Very sad. I'll have my slice of cake now girls.

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by dodge on Apr 28, 2008 20:03:31 GMT 1, i think if its exactly the same as the original run, e.g. no damage then why not... if your just in it for the image then its a great way of getting a print you like.
Agreed.

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by dodge on Apr 28, 2008 19:23:19 GMT 1, I really don't understand, that mentality. You want to pay hundreds of pounds for something that is no better than a fake?? Seriously mate you need your head looking at. Also you can pick up REAL Banksy prints for under £1000 unsigned and a signed one from £2-3000. Where's the harm? The harm is there's alot of people on this forum trying to legitimise these prints for financial gain. The prints are dodgy,un-authorised,never meant to be in circulation, worthless posters. Don't be conned into buying these. If you like the image, get yourself a nice print made up,theres also some nice images on Banksy's website he'd like people to download and print in the shop section. The image I want argument is bollocks I'm afraid.
Of course it's not bollocks. One of the most popular 'backdoors' is LIITA. Even an unsigned original costs 2k+ these days. Where would I find one for £200-£300 (the price of a backdoor one)? This image isn't available on Banksy's website. Get a nice print knocked up? How? I don't see any high res versions of it kicking around, plus how much of a fanny on would it be to get it printed properly, not on a laserjet?
Sorry but if I can get 'dodgy' prints on the same paper with the same look as a numbered one for a fraction of the price then I am fine with that. I can't see why you are getting so upset or why I should have to justify myself.
Oh, and well done for getting Banksy's for cost back in the day. Unfortunately I had never heard of Banksy until 2007 ( I guess that probably makes me need my 'head looking at').

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by dodge on Apr 27, 2008 19:16:16 GMT 1, If anybody has any banksy backdoor prints they would be willing to sell for a realistic price I would be very interested (please pm). I agree with snakes, It's all about the image and how much you are willing to pay.
While I am lucky financially, I could not begin to justify spending 2-3k on a print and if backdoor jobbies allow me to get my hands on an image I want and I am happy to pay, where's the harm?

, by dodge on Dec 30, 2007 11:17:38 GMT 1, Hats off for creating such an ambitious site. My only worry with this thing is that since there is no listing fee some of the prices people might put up will be ridiculous as they might figure its no cost and no loss to them to put some stuff up with total piss take prices and see if anyone bites. The Neates are a perfect example as well as some Failes and several others. I'd recommend haggling the hell out of those prints big time. But then again it's nice to see that some prints are priced very reasonably like most of the Micallefs.
Agreed. Cool site. Keep up the good work. I can fast see it catching on. As mentioned, the Micallefs look especially reasonable! Beautiful Kngee canvas on there too, £800 is a steal for the work that must have gone into it (it's not mine BTW!).

Ghetto Online Shop Opening, by dodge on Dec 5, 2007 12:09:20 GMT 1, I've heard on the grapevine that the shop will be open for business today at 11:30am GMT... might be wrong tho? my grapes usually get a burning sensation just prior to any major release, so far not a tingle...however my waters are playing up now so maybe you're right..
A bit more information than we needed I think.....
