Cleon Peterson Tokyobike, by honestcrooks on Nov 6, 2019 10:29:28 GMT 1, It's funny to think that these galleries think people would pay $6500 for a bicycle with a Cleon Peterson sticker on it. Wait, what?? 6.5k for that?

Jerkface ๐บ๐ธ New York Artist โข New Release โข Art For Sale, by honestcrooks on Sept 23, 2019 11:04:15 GMT 1, Once again, this forum continues to amaze me You'd be surprised how many people have a lack of taste. Also, it's amazing what the Instagram Hype-train can do for such "artists".

Josh Sperling ๐บ๐ธ Print Release โข Perrotin โข Case Studyo , by honestcrooks on Sept 3, 2019 13:08:05 GMT 1, 35k - 150k if I remember well Sold out, but imho very overpriced. Starting at 35k? In dollars or pesos? That pricing seems absolutely bonkers. If the global economy gets drilled this isnโt going to end well for some collectors. Kudos to Josh I suppose may as well get it while the gettings good. I believe I got quoted in Euro, but Euro, USD or GBP, it doesnt matters at this pricepoint I think ;-) Oh, and the show only has 7 works.

Josh Sperling ๐บ๐ธ Print Release โข Perrotin โข Case Studyo , by honestcrooks on Sept 2, 2019 16:56:54 GMT 1, 1 post member, selling an original from an artist who's in demand without an asking price in the listing. What a surprise.
Anyway, lovely piece, but not his best by far. I don't know the price, but from what I feel, it's well above 10k, so as said above, at 10k you can buy a whole lot of art instead.

Ebay is becoming worse and worse, by honestcrooks on Jul 27, 2019 18:02:31 GMT 1, Stay away from Paddle8.
Long story short: I knew that someone was about to sell a piece I wanted. I made an offer, seller thought he would get more from Paddle8. I end up buying it from Paddle8 for (without fees) a bit more than 50% of what I offered privately. Win for me. Until the moment I paid and they prepared the package to be send. They send me pictures of the item broken and ask me if I still want it. Of course I declined and I check back with original seller how it went. He says Paddle8 says it was him who send it broken and there it goes.
eBay has been terrible for me. Always something and as a seller you are almost always in the wrong, whatever happens. The fees are outrageous and the exposure isn't terrific.
I try to sell privately through Facebook, Instagram and from time to time here.
Auction houses are overrated anyway if you have good social circle of collectors. Someone always knows someone who sells what you are looking for if you look well.

Parra Safety Dance Print, by honestcrooks on Jul 10, 2019 9:13:21 GMT 1, He's a graphic designer which are oceans away from fine arts. He started with drawings, illustrations and posters. Not the usual pedigree of an artist that is bound for USD 6-7 figure commercial success. hence why whoever commenting this needs to define "blowing up", he's had a lot of growth as an artist but yes anyone that has followed this knows he's probably not on a path to become blue chip and thats not necessarily a bad thing or his objective... If it was, ive always felt dropping his clothing label would be a first step in that direction The thing with Parra, is that he isn't in it for the money, but for his own pleasure. It seems he is not trying to be a commercial succes or a blue chip artist and that's fine. I think he has the potential though, as there are a lot of more expensive artists who I think are less about the art and more about a good management and commercialising their product.
What is certain, is the fact he's here to stay. His very first works were very cheap, prints at 50/100euro, OG's at less than 2k for large sized stuff. But he's grown in style and so did his audience. He went from a graphic designer, to an artist with a clear, recognisable style and still he is growing in form and colour. This change in price means though, you now have 2 very clear audiences for his work: The students (who buy his clothing and flyers) and the collectors (who, well, collect his prints, sculpts and original work). For me, this works great. You can enjoy/own something of his from as low as 20euro to 15.000euro without compromising on imagery. It's just a different medium.
Of course, everyone compares any other artist to Kaws at this time. But let's be honest, if the Kaws pricehike is the base to start comparing, you don't have a lot artists who would make the cut. From a supply perspective, it's even easier to find an original by Kaws, than an original by Parra. Ha... :-D

Parra Safety Dance Print, by honestcrooks on Jul 5, 2019 17:22:28 GMT 1, As said above, no worries, these will go down in price. Too many people won one or more for the flip and see they don't go double retail or more as his previous/older prints do.
This is what you get with raffles though. I missed out on one, and can't be bothered by paying resell for one just because a computerprogram didn't chose me. If I lost square and fair at a regular release, I had only myself to blame and I would've paid a certain amount on top of retail to have one. But now, nah, sorry :-)

Which galleries would you avoid?, by honestcrooks on Jun 25, 2019 9:59:40 GMT 1, I've had great dealings with Kathy from The Hole in NYC. Their sales tactic isn't very "soft" (they try to push it to the limit) but in the end, I got what I wanted at the price I wanted, even though I was a first time customer and the piece was in high demand. You just have to keep in mind you are dealing with people who do this for a living and look at art as a fast moving consumer good. Not as the emotional piece of interior for your dream house you see it.
The worst dealing (or lack of in this case) I've had, was definitely with HVW8. The situation was the following: They stocked a Parra piece for over 3 years. I messaged them to inquire about available pieces and I got quoted a very fair price on the remaining canvas they had from an earlier show. Within the hour I give them a "go" and ask them for payment information and shipping quotes. They go dead for over a week and after I send them another message, they tell me someone, magically, just paid a deposit on the piece a day before I inquired about the piece. This felt very random to me as it was available for over 3 years, they send it as available and such, but ok, fair enough. A week passes by after this debacle, and I get hit up on Instagram by one of my fellow collectors in the US. He says he can get ahold of a Parra canvas, and (you can guess by now what happened), he presents me the canvas I wanted to buy a few weeks earlier, for 4 times (!) the price I got quoted by the gallery. It seems someone from Tyler's entourage (owner of HVW8) was the seller, so ... I don't want to jump to conclusions, but ok ... :-D I then messaged the gallery with this story and they were shocked this happened and they wanted to hear names - which I obviously didn't give - so they could trace it back. It could be a misunderstanding, or the universe telling me this work wasn't for me, but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth, so for me, it stopped here.
Also, the agent of Parra in the US (don't know if it's still the current one) is/was terrible in communication. Even if you throw money at him, he still doesn't get back at you in any way ever. Strange stuff.

Parra The Tomato Chair by Case Studyo, by honestcrooks on Jun 13, 2019 21:38:14 GMT 1, 2019/2020 will be spectacular for Parra fans. No worries, a lot of great stuff in the pipeline! Honestly, I think Parra has a broad enough base to use OTI for what they are and not the other way around. His work has consistent quality, keeps growing in style and always surprises with one thing or another.
I doubt that he will ever reach Kaws status (not because of skills, but because of bad management and not the right people backing him up) but he is here to stay, that's for sure.

Parra drop sept 2018?, by honestcrooks on Dec 2, 2018 0:21:03 GMT 1, What's the best way to display these? Hang it on the wall as is or get it framed? Probably a daft question but interested to know considering the materials used, weight, protection, etc..
Chances are I'm gonna frame mine. The piece doesnt have any system to hang on the wall, so I feel safer if it's stuck in a frame :-)
