Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by sakyamuni on May 9, 2014 16:22:34 GMT 1, nice but I thought cosmonaut theme was over ? Don't really see the point in adding a new one... should we expect a Green cosmonaut in the near future ?

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by kultur on May 9, 2014 16:22:54 GMT 1, I find this kind of desperate.
Release something very similar/ almost identical to one of his most successful prints when your market is at a real low point? If it is the same size it would just be embarrassing...

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by sin on May 9, 2014 16:30:39 GMT 1, I've been on Geddes case for a while about 1. constantly bringing back this type of imagrey / not being able to really move on 2. trying to lay claim to this type of imagry as something that is so distinct that anyone else using astronauts is being derivative.
This release for me just drives home point 1 to a level that I think its jumping the shark or releasing a greatest hits record when there is nothing left in the tank.
Flame away, just my humble opinion

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by letiss on May 9, 2014 16:32:27 GMT 1, Surprised to see this as the next print as I thought he said there wouldn't be any more astronauts / cosmonauts. But maybe there'll be several famous Juxtapose covers turned into prints??
If I owned the previous very similar version of this I'd be more than a bit annoyed. But as it turns out I don't so price permitting this will be a very easy buy.

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by kunstrasen on May 9, 2014 17:37:24 GMT 1, Hype is a crule thing...while on it people would say so great of him giving people what they like most...without the hype he appears to be desperate...the truth might be somewhere in the middle!? What the fuck do I care...I buy what appeals to me personally.

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by Chrisp on May 9, 2014 17:46:18 GMT 1, Geddes seems like a nice guy to me, had a lovely email back when I asked a question once. I am sure he's done this as it is probably the thing he has been asked about the most. Would of liked to have seen somthing new but Hey ho will still pick up one.

I mean I've posted in threads on ye ole social media platforms and driven at these two points. He has commented back, we have gone back and forth on it. I've posted here on the same topic, in a thread about rising stars, where I said I think Geddes has hit a all and that he cant figure out where to go next and is at the same time laying claim to a concept that is the antithesis of unique.
You seem to like to pick fights with me since we had a disagreement in the past, something about the economics of art or some such thing. If you really have to take out your disdain through snarky uninteresting comments, so be it, but I just find it rather petty and of no real value.

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by alittle on May 9, 2014 18:38:14 GMT 1, I think sin has a real point here, so I wouldn't really dismiss his opinion with some sarcastic bullshit.
I'm not sure I really understand this decision for a timed edition at this juncture. Demand for his prints are at an all time low, with some of his best work like Heat Death sitting at 25% of their market value just 18 months ago. To top it off, this is a real slap in the face to the owners of the original Red Cosmonaut.
All that being said, I am a big fan of Geddes. I think he is one of the most talented photorealistic painters out there today. I don't think any of this will impact his ability to sell $45K originals, but I do see some of the recent imagery as taking a step back, and re-hashing what has already been done.

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by alittle on May 9, 2014 19:01:09 GMT 1, Sound logic. Demand at an all time high but prices at an all time low, despite a fairly sparse release schedule? Explain that one...
Solid reading comprehension too. I said this is a slap in the face to OWNERS of the original Red Cosmonaut. There is now a timed edition out there that is not materially different from your limited edition image, which is a perfect low cost substitute for any potential buyers. This ensures that any value accrued in your print over the last few years has now been eroded in an instant due to a poor decision by the artist.

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by Deleted on May 9, 2014 20:30:27 GMT 1, The talent is undeniable but the print market is fickle and does there remain the possibility that the star rose too fast? Let's face it, it wouldn't be the first time that an artist has suffered? at the hands of the market?
Anthony Micallef is a prime example of that, no?
Let's see the size, the price etc and then give some commentary? That said, if I did own a red cosmonaut then I might have a bigger axe to grind.

The little ebay flipper bubble burst.. good. But that's it. And as I said, if you liked the original red, then you'll love this. I'm presuming people who own it also like it. Odd you don't make that same connection mr "value accrued" lol

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by alittle on May 9, 2014 22:08:02 GMT 1, Clearly you have no grasp of basic economics.
We are dealing with limited prints here, where the supply is fixed. Market price is situated at the point where supply meets demand.
Now, heres a question even a 5 year old could answer -- If the supply remains fixed, and the price has gone down, what has happened to demand?
I'm not talking about pre-sale flips on eBay, I'm talking about a widespread decline in prices across his entire catalogue.
And again, your reading comprehension is poor. I never said that his market for originals is or will suffer. It is quite robust, actually.

For his market in general - demand is lower than it has been without a doubt, and this is not his first timed edition so we will know for sure soon. Prices are very low for anything resale and not just flippers (his last set of prints are selling below cost) originals are not even selling out. I doubt many with the red cosmo will like this one - I do have one and do not like this - as it is not creative nor any step forward, but I think he is only hurting himself by doing this as it is 95% the same image - even if he did paint it this year.
The same thing is happening with Josh Keyes - actually very similar... went in a different direction and there is backlash and weak sales so you go back to the money (which Keyes hasnt done yet... but might)

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by Deleted on May 10, 2014 8:50:35 GMT 1, Seems to me that Jeremy Geddes is supplying demand, a lovely limited edition print at $2500 plus a timed release of a popular image which will be cheaper plus expensive OG's?
What's wrong with that?

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by balibob on May 10, 2014 9:53:31 GMT 1, Seems to me that Jeremy Geddes is supplying demand, a lovely limited edition print at $2500 plus a timed release of a popular image which will be cheaper plus expensive OG's? What's wrong with that?
Its a lovely print which I would seriously consider buying, especially as its a timed release which I think is a great idea. Only problem is I've got the Red Cosmonaut, so therefore I am a bit pissed off.
