Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by dazarino on May 10, 2014 10:12:21 GMT 1, Sound logic. Demand at an all time high but prices at an all time low, despite a fairly sparse release schedule? Explain that one... Solid reading comprehension too. I said this is a slap in the face to OWNERS of the original Red Cosmonaut. There is now a timed edition out there that is not materially different from your limited edition image, which is a perfect low cost substitute for any potential buyers. This ensures that any value accrued in your print over the last few years has now been eroded in an instant due to a poor decision by the artist. Demand is at an all time high, as too are prices.. his prints used to cost $60 AUS at source, they're at least double that now. Originals used to be 3k, try 30k + now. How's that for logic. The little ebay flipper bubble burst.. good. But that's it. And as I said, if you liked the original red, then you'll love this. I'm presuming people who own it also like it. Odd you don't make that same connection mr "value accrued" lol
Ok guys lets get ome thing right. Right now email johnathen levine gallery in new york and I think you will find two originals for sale for ยฃ6800 each (ยฃ12000 for both) at around 80cmx50cm. Ok not corperate size pieces but still affordable. His work is still in very high demand but martyn is right on this. Just not on ebay
I alsk agree that its just stupid to bring out the red on a timed release and very lazy. Wont stop everyone including me going for one though lol

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by anbesivam1 on May 10, 2014 10:43:35 GMT 1, Seems to me that Jeremy Geddes is supplying demand, a lovely limited edition print at $2500 plus a timed release of a popular image which will be cheaper plus expensive OG's? What's wrong with that?
Its a lovely print which I would seriously consider buying, especially as its a timed release which I think is a great idea. Only problem is I've got the Red Cosmonaut, so therefore I am a bit pissed off.
balibob I think you are pretty lucky to have the Red Cosmonaut mate, I'm now a bit gutted I let mine go a while ago, as I think they will look great framed together.
Geddes did a similar thing (as a friend pointed out to me) with 'Adrift' and 'Ascend':
Seeing them together actually makes sense.. I will definitely go for one if I am not priced out.

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by sin on May 10, 2014 15:11:30 GMT 1, there is no question that Geddes is an extremely shilled painter. However, the world is full of skilled painters. Geddes put together a body of work that has a distinct look and tone. Floating astronauts in empty space or in a desolate city. He then explored human subjects in that same landscape, which was a well received expansion on a theme. It seemed to me, that he was then looking to explore from there but got stuck. He reverted back into prior themes of floating subjects in empty space, astronauts, birds, quiet almost sullen subjects. It's safe, but I think collectors can smell that.
During this period the print market started to fall. Maybe it's a correction of speculators falling off and looking to limit loss. Maybe it's just people not liking a new body of work that seems like a song they have heard before. Whatever it is they secondary market is softer on the print side and the primary market is slightly softer on the paintings side.
Judging the primary print market in comparison to where it was years ago is somewhat pointless as there has been an exceedingly strong secondary market for a while. It would be unlikely that the primary print market would correct so far back. However producing a near duplicate to ones most in demand image is a sure fire heavy sell. Everyone who has been lusting at a thousand dollar++ print will be able to satisfy that fetish with this close copy of that image.
IMHO as was stated prior this is a similar track as Keyes except Keyes has more courage by pushing through his departure into his fully rendered scenes.
Will be interesting to watch from here.

What warmgun said, but worth adding that the size of the edition is dictated by how many sell in that timed period. So edition will be large for a popular print.

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by kultur on May 10, 2014 17:40:11 GMT 1, To hell with the espresso beaners financial rubbish people.lets just enjoy the work Or shall we become like the clueless middle class socialites and buy a mickey mouse print made of dots for ยฃ5000. So Dolk releases a new Vandal canvas edition of 100 with slightly different hair and everything else the same... and you say the same thing... just enjoy your canvas right? I think it has to hit home before you can understand... and not that Dolk would do that.

I havent sold or traded anything in my collection in more than 20 years of collecting. I offered it years ago and still have it all. Dig your hole a little deeper.
What do you actually know... because you talk lots of crap that has no basis and it really only hurts your reputation not mine.

I do understand your grievance and apologise if i offended you, but the new print is different than yours is it not? ok not a massive amount but looking at the audrey kawasaki timed prints, they are not really very sought after as the run is normally over 1000 and it has made her smaller limited runs of the same or similar images a lot more desirable. If jeremy geddes gains a lot more fans over doing this, your print may even grow in value as people might want your print to match
well for what its worth, i do hope so

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by bullysonzx10r on May 10, 2014 18:28:54 GMT 1, I'm a fan of this print, and I missed out on the previous one... So -- I'm in.
However, I buy pieces based 100% off how I feel about them (With a few exceptions -- Fucking BNE...) So, I don't really give a shit if it'll flip, or if 20,000 other people have the same thing.
If the price is right, and I enjoy the work... Sold

I have one and that may skew me a bit, but in reality even if I didnt have one I would be saying the same thing.
I am not really concerned about value. If you read what I posted I think it is a bad move for an artist to do something like this and release something that similar to something he painted in 2009 (5 years ago) www.jeremygeddesart.com/popups/02.html. It hurts him and it can hurt his fan base as it just is really not good form. It also seems DESPERATE to me.
It also is a different story here, as when an artist makes a statement that they are not going to be doing something in the future... as he has said about not doing Cosmonauts anymore... to then turn around and release 2 more prints of Cosmonauts ( I have not heard anything about the JLG print and if that is real yet but I am guessing it is) and then have a brand new original of an almost identical Cosmonaut (again 5 years later), it just makes you wonder why you would trust or want to trust anything they have to say. In this business trust and reputation is very important. Talent rarely trumps reputation.

"A couple of days ago we announced that Hypostasis would be released as a timed release, but we've changed our minds. After much discussion we feel releasing Hypostasis as a print would be a betrayal to those who have the original Red Cosmonaut print.
Hypostasis was a commissioned piece intended as a reimagining of the themes of Red Cosmonaut. As such it has a very similar feel and quality to the Red Cosmonaut.
Our prints provide an archive of the progression of my painting, cataloguing where I've been and where I am going. Hypostasis was an enjoyable painting to create, and a fun place to revisit, but its release as a print doesnโt fall within our mantra for what should be released.
We're sorry to be changing our minds, and I apologise to those who were looking forward to this release. At the end of the day we are driven by what feels ethical, and this is a decision we feel we needed to make.
thanks,
Jem"

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by barryh on May 11, 2014 8:53:34 GMT 1, That's a bit of a shame, wonder why JR has never got grief for releasing the same image more than once.

Jeremy Geddes, New print (timed release), by mutatis on May 11, 2014 9:01:12 GMT 1, For me it is indeed a pity and the artist is free to do as he wishes, but given the turnaround and the reasons therefor - it begs the question of why the timed release was considered in the first place

Agreed I was looking forward to that. it probably would of made the price on red cosmonaut stronger too. I'm just going to click the ignore button on this thread now anyway and boycott what ever he decides to sell instead.
