Oscar Murillo Updates, by Dr Plip on Oct 18, 2013 22:47:08 GMT 1, It was in the small print! Family and friends were allowed to enter! Wtf! That is piss-poor. So just how many tickets went to people associated with him then?
And what were the final prizes in the end? The reporting of the event wasn't exactly brill.

Considering anything the guy touches becomes art, you'd think some art would have been up for grabs.

Oscar Murillo Updates, by Dr Plip on Oct 18, 2013 22:56:18 GMT 1, Just to add, there were 98 lottery tickets. They had a Pineda full of balls, the highest number that I saw was 158. They then dropped the balls etc then picked out people they knew to reveal the numbers they picked off the floor:( People had hand full of numbers and they chose people at random (names of friend) and ultimately jeff koons / Oscar murrilos multi millionaire gallerist won!? I'm very confused Jesus H. Christ.
I'm glad the national lottery isn't drawn like that each week.
So could anyone have switched balls or already had balls in their hands (sounds terrible). Was it dark in there?
Sorry for the questions, but I'm just trying to understand WTF just happened.

Oscar Murillo Updates, by Dr Plip on Oct 18, 2013 22:57:08 GMT 1, So they basically sold (if each was sold, and some weren't gifted) 98 small Murillo originals.
Is the event still on? Can't people just "kick off" and make some art out of the tables and chairs?

Oscar Murillo Updates, by letiss on Oct 18, 2013 23:46:46 GMT 1, Unbelievable that's absolutely shocking. Was very tempted to dig deep on the credit card and buy a lottery ticket with the hope of an original as the obvious prize. Only reason why I didn't was I didn't get why the lottery ticket was also drawn (literally painted) by a member of his family. Oh well, glad I dodged this one.

Oscar Murillo Updates, by Dr Plip on Oct 18, 2013 23:52:20 GMT 1, A lottery where they don't announce the prizes until after the tickets have been sold. Family members and associates of the artist and lottery organiser were allowed to enter. The draw was decided by tipping balls onto a floor, and having people gather up balls, and when picked, read out a ball number.
Scam or art?
I suppose the best thing is that all of the ticket holders now at least have an original Murillo for their wall. And in days to come, it may even be worth more than the ยฃ2500 they cost.
That is, unless they took the tickets off you as you entered the building. I wouldn't be fucking surprised.

I can't stop thinking about the regular collectors who entered, especially those who put it on credit. Absolutely preposterous.

Oscar Murillo Updates, by papaneuf on Oct 19, 2013 6:12:12 GMT 1, All sounds like a complete joke... I was very tempted to buy but couldn't justify ยฃ2,500 on the basis of the quality of the lottery tickets alone, which are poor and not a good example of his work in my opinion. I actually prefer the ICA drawings that were released a few months ago at a fifth of the price.
Oscar seems like a nice chap and he's now got a very promising future ahead of him but I don't think this has done him any favours; it was certainly not unreasonable for people to assume that the prizes would be artwork, given he's an artist and all that.
Having said that I'm intrigued to know what the two overseas trips entail, esp the trip to Colombia. I'm guessing that it's not just return flights...

Oscar Murillo Updates, by artylang on Oct 19, 2013 17:39:34 GMT 1, If this were me I'd be calling my CC company and trying to reverse the charges. And I remember seeing that coconut water when it was available. I thought it was weak then and still do. He may be a nice guy but his body of work is mediocre and the hype is sickening. But once an artist hits these price points there are forces at work to sustain it. So I'm sure we'll be seeing him for awhile. Maybe it will give him time to improve? my sentiments exactly. Im so close to deleting instagram. The hype and back patting is sickening. There is nothing about the art anymore. Im all for investment, hell, you'd be stupid to spend 10k, even 1k, and not consider future value, but it seems over the last year things have just degraded into an orgy of pump and dump.
