Art Collectorz, by artcollectorz on Jun 14, 2013 18:46:40 GMT 1, Dear all,
I'd like to introduce our new website... www.art collectorz
We're aiming to create a comprehensive database of all editioned artworks. Yes, all of them. This will become an invaluable resource when researching an artist, and in answering those recurring questions like 'how much was it?' and 'where can i buy work by... ?' To date we've added over 3500 editions to the site... with more being added each day.
The aim is for the database to be updated by the site's users. It's incredibly quick & easy to add work to the site. All we would ask is that you are sure the information you are adding is accurate and wherever possible dates, prices, sizes etc. are verified by your own purchases, or from emails you've kept from the publishing gallery. Where possible please add photos in the highest resolution you can find.
The site is also being kept up to date with new releases on a daily basis. You can see at a glance the latest print releases... along with price information & where to buy it!
This is very much a beta version of the website, and we have a lot of functionality we're looking to add in the future.
For the time being though, we'd be really glad to hear any comments you may have. And we'd love it even more if you'd register & help to update the database yourselves. Submissions will be rewarded with some kind of karma point system once we work out how to implement it!
AC x

Art Collectorz, by dotdot on Jun 14, 2013 19:26:28 GMT 1, interesting site , uncluttered, semi responsive and yeah quite cool.
so it's a database - and you'd look to add to it - so everyone chips in then you sell bits to people to use the data ?
will it be free of adds ?
will it link up to ebay stats ?
will it last more than a year or two.... (can't add data then have it all blasted over a some kind of tantrum).
questions questions...
otherwise AC/J/P - looks cool.

We're not at the moment planning to introduce adverts or any links to ebay.
We're also committed to developing the site, and have already put a lot of time & effort in. So we're certainly not expecting to throw our toys out of the pram!
Thanks for the comments!

Art Collectorz, by nah on Jun 14, 2013 19:40:10 GMT 1, site is really well made, a pleasure to browse. similar territory to EB, but this still feels like it's filling a gap.
my criticisms would be;
a) the name - feels rather dated b) i understand you're still adding work but for a site that wants to list "all editions" it seems heavily biased towards the sort of work discussed on this forum. if i was to make a site like this the first publishers i'd harvest data from are the likes of Gemini G.E.L., Crown Point Press and U.L.A.E. - the real heavyweights of printmaking. this early on, being more selective would add credibility to the project imo

Art Collectorz, by Drymounted on Jun 14, 2013 19:48:18 GMT 1, We are aware of Expresso Beans... Then why are you wasting your time? From your description, you mentioned no additional functionality over an existing website. I can see several reasons: 1. A different interface, which is more visual. 2. It's viewable without having to register. 3. Some may not visit Expresso Beans, and feel that they'd like a site dedicated to this, without the forum banter.
Also, when running a gallery or being an artist, it's a positive thing to have a variety of sites to submit pieces to. Sure you could submit your work to 1 site and hope it's seen by everyone, but the chances are that not everyone frequents one site.
I run Drymounted.com, and while there are other release sites, I still get a decent number of visitors a day, and many that might not visit the other sites. I think the goal for most of us is to let collectors know about what it out there. The more sites, the merrier!
Also, keep in mind that with most sites, they evolve. What is there today might be different tomorrow, and features may always be added/stripped. Let's welcome art collectorz to the scene. I see this as nothing but a positive to our collector/artist community.

The name isn't ideal. But it's hard these days to find something good that's not taken! We went through dozens... and in the end we thought this worked pretty well.
The work on there at the moment is inevitably biased towards the art that interests us, and that for which we've kept or been sent release information. The difficulty with some of the higher end print studios is that they don't publish things like prices online, and wherever possible we are trying to make sure that information added is comprehensive and accurate. The older print studios haven't embraced the internet as much as their upstart rivals. There's also a limit to how much one person can add and also hold down a full time job. I thought it would be good to try & as far as possible document this part of the art world before tackling Warhol. It's hard enough to find information about street art prints released in 2008!

Art Collectorz, by lifeonwalls on Jun 14, 2013 21:06:24 GMT 1, Why do some works have a "sold out" corner in the upper right?
Do you have permissions from the artist to list
Hello Artcollectors, 2 questions. 1. Do you or do you have any plans to sell works on site? 2. Whats to stop idiots loading duff info ie. New work by El tosspotto for instance?. How does it pay?. Pretty sure it would need to be non-profit in order to use all of the artist's images. After, I believe that's how expressobeans operates and donations/ebay links go to site maintenance - i.e. they can't charge for membership nor turn a profit.

Art Collectorz, by harryh74 on Jun 15, 2013 1:06:31 GMT 1, Good luck with this, an easy to look up database is something I know I've needed in the past, I love a good list. You need to add a "contact us" link, and some T&C for usage, ownership of images that kind of stuff. You could have created a monster for yourself here but the idea is sound.

Like others have said, the website name is pretty terrible. I really think you should try to change this if you can.

Art Collectorz, by Gard on Jun 15, 2013 8:33:12 GMT 1, The site is easy to use that's great. Horrible name and logo is even worse. I would also try to change the top part of the page is pretty ugly, try with something cleaner.
Would be nice to add a framed button for every print so people can add pictures of their print framed. When there is different color ways you should be able to click on a arrow that appears over the picture of the print to switch color way. The ability to tag pictures. Then people who are looking for a specific picture can describe it in a search and find what they are after. It's also great for discovering art.

I like your new site dude and the name is terrible but it doesn't matter does it? The only thing I really hate is that it has a z in it. Could be called anything though as I fail to see how EBs name relates to the art, could be called gappytreepants.com and we'd still visit if the content is good.

As mentioned, sort the name out. One of my pet hatez is replacing 's' with 'z' on pluralz. Its not 1988 any more. Good luck with the site though, looks good.

Part of the thinking was that Art collectorZ was like an A to Z of art. I think we'll stick with it for now, but maybe we'll see if something better comes to mind....

Art Collectorz, by artcollectorz on Jun 15, 2013 13:35:19 GMT 1, Hello Artcollectors, 2 questions. 1. Do you or do you have any plans to sell works on site? 2. Whats to stop idiots loading duff info ie. New work by El tosspotto for instance?. How does it pay?. At the moment anyone can upload anything, though submissions do need admin approval. If people seem to be spamming the front page we might look into having one tab showing selected new releases, and one showing everything.
We do have ideas for how the site might finance itself in the future, but the site will always remain at heart an information resource.
