Art Collectorz, by Ovaltine! on Jun 18, 2013 7:18:01 GMT 1, Thanks for all the replies... I appreciate people taking time to have a look. There's quite a few comments about the name! Part of the thinking was that Art collectorZ was like an A to Z of art. I think we'll stick with it for now, but maybe we'll see if something better comes to mind....
The A-Z of art part is actually pretty clever but it does honestly seem more so like the whole young, trying to be cool, spelling with a "z" kind of thing.
It is similar to EB but if you can get people active enough it would be nice and clean to use. Best of luck!
PS: Theres no Mear One yet! First name I searched but it makes since...

Art Collectorz, by artcollectorz on Jun 20, 2013 15:37:09 GMT 1, Very nice site. Don't care about the name, it's the content which matters. It is important to have such websites in order to get some info about artist's prints. For example, I was surprised to see on auction soon in Paris a JR print of the Pont Louis Philippe. I have one, S&N edition of 85. Except the one for sale, is identical in size and paper quality except it is S&N of a 150 series no one knew about. I got the info that it is noted "EC" which means "Paster Proof" and is an off market print given to pasters who helped JR (and not supposed to be resold)... If such site had that kind of info, that would be good ! Thing is, I think, many people here would be glad to contribute and provide prints info, BUT, we all fear to provide that info for free and see the website then move to a pay-per-view or subscribers formulae later on and have to pay to access the very info provided freely by users... Free stuff never exists for long, so it is legitimate that people ask about the business model... This said, I will nonetheless contribute with relevant info I may have about prints, as well as uploading my own art ;-) Thanks for your comments. I understand your concerns... however content on the site will always be free to access.

Art Collectorz, by Dellboyy on Jun 20, 2013 16:48:23 GMT 1, Probably all been said, but. Love the site itself, clear, easy to navigate (never liked navigating EB, front-end years overdue an update), can see myself returning to it a lot for reference. As long as it continues to be free, and the T&C's are sorted (shouldn't that be the first thing, all the legal talk?).
Not keen on the name. I've actually only just read the thread as the title put me off, i thought it'd be some argumentative nonsense about collecting art
Oh, and yeah enlarging images on roll-over when scolling is kinda annoying.

Art Collectorz, by Deleted on Jun 21, 2013 7:41:12 GMT 1, artcollectorz - For the enlarging images on roll-over, agree it's a bit annoying. Ask your coder to change JS code so that event is trigger after xx secondes (if mouseover for 2 seconds => then trigger, if not do nothing).
What Cedric Mnich said is very important indeed.

Art Collectorz, by lifeonwalls on Jun 21, 2013 21:03:40 GMT 1, Why do some works have a "sold out" corner in the upper right? Do you have permissions from the artist to list Only the recent Tauba Auerbach release from Exhibition A has a 'sold out' in the corner... just because that's how the image was when I grabbed it from their website. Under what similar instances would a site need permission from the artist to show images? If you were operate the site 'for profit' (charge for membership, charge for advertisers to link, etc.) then I believe you would need artist permission to use their images. By no means am I an expert in copyright law so I could easily be wrong! I just recall reading that expressobeans can operate as it does because it's not for profit.

Art Collectorz, by artcollectorz on Oct 26, 2013 15:07:02 GMT 1, Just wanted to let people know about a couple of improvements we've made to the Art Collectorz site.
You can now catalogue your own collection with the 'add to collection' button on each edition's page.
You can also now search for publishers in the search bar.
We now have over 5500 editions catalogued on the site, by more than 700 artists...
The homepage will show you all new & forthcoming print releases & is updated daily.
Cheers! www.art collectorz

Art Collectorz, by Deleted on Feb 20, 2014 15:05:28 GMT 1, not a bad site.
if you could ensure that there are no bloody obey/Fairey prog rock / rap star / random pop culture uninspired prints listed, then you will cut the visiting wanker quotient by about 90% - this is what kills EB for most.

Art Collectorz, by artcollectorz on Feb 20, 2014 20:16:27 GMT 1, Thanks to everyone who's checked out the site, and for the nice comments.
@sceptic we're not limiting what can be added to the site, however since our own interest lies in 'art' rather than gig posters... and we're the ones currently entering most of the information... the emphasis of the site is naturally different to that of EB.

Art Collectorz, by morgan on Feb 21, 2014 7:28:41 GMT 1, very nice and I fully support newer alternatives to EB. Lets face it, EB looks like it is from 1994, is slow as hell, and horrific User Exp/ User Interface. I am all for someone making a more modern attempt at a db (HTML5/CSS3/Responsive etc).
Hell I started my own little blog (http://www.theflatfiles.org) more for myself than others because I feel s many of the other release blogs out there are very dated and so on. Like someone else mentioned, the more the merrier and sites with a better user experience, intuitive, modern web technologies will prosper most likely, so congrats and good luck!
That said, it simply blows my mind that EB has not, at the minimum, brought their site up to modern web technologies with some form of a site refresh/redesign.
An even cooler idea would be to open up your site with APIs so people could use it for all sorts of stuff, mobile apps etc. Anyway, nice work!

Anyway its its a great idea!

Art Collectorz, by Deleted on Feb 21, 2014 9:51:26 GMT 1, It looks good artcollectorz !!
One thing you may consider, add a "report an error" button so that users which are not registered can notify you and the one who added the description about errors.
What I like with EB is that you have not only the original price but also some price history
