Steve Powers πΊπΈ ESPO β’ New York Street Art β’ New Release, by Show&Tell on Feb 13, 2009 19:00:39 GMT 1, apologies james. i like it, there's something very charming and dark about it, but I, for the lack of knowledge, can't quite justify it. just needed some experts' views, to add deeper context to the image, so as to make this very pretty image, much more.
Hey, glad to hear that he has at least sparked your interest.
Check out the following links for a little background about ESPO

I also highly recommend picking up his book "The Art Of Getting Over"

Price, as always, is irrelevant - if you like it enough and you can afford it then you buy it.

i know what you mean vera. i have a queen vic that's sits and waits until my daughter grows up and leaves home. no way is that allowed up in our house. until then its the cheeky occasional glance in private. back to this piece. i'm sure it will have its fans but to me it just reminds of a rather flash "you dont have to be mad to work here it but it helps" sort of thing and doesnt make my leg tremble. but credit to POW for doing a print that resonates with the times and it made me smile.
and i'm sure it will sell out and in this climate its being bought for all the same reasons people bought at the beginning. because they like it. thats the best bit for me. the good ol days.
if this ends up being one of those things i talk about not getting years down the line i'm just gonna have to live with it like i have had to live with all the banksy, micallef, faile, eine work i have passed on when i should've bought the lot. what will be will be. she sang.(notice the link back to vera at the start of my reply eh? eh?)
one last thing.
there is a book called "is it me or is everything s**t? can be very funny at times. what he says about powerpoint: the microsoft tool that encourages people to think and talk like f**kheads.

I've always felt it slightly wrong not to display art of this nature as "my kids might not like it". More often than not it's the adults fear and understanding of the work, rather than the childs interpretation that creates the problem. Children rarely look at art in the same way, and certainly with the Queen Vic piece would failt to understnad it as an adult does. I personally think it is good to expose your kids to art of this nature, it enriches their lives rather than makes them worse

Steve Powers πΊπΈ ESPO β’ New York Street Art β’ New Release, by pezlow on Feb 13, 2009 21:10:15 GMT 1, Yeah after all if you can have morons in your house then you can have this. I would draw the line at anything which would scare the kids. I wouldn't have Michael Hussar up for example, although that would mostly be because it scares me too.
And for those saying that because this is a typographical art they could do it themselves well I would say firstly does that matter? and secondly can you really do it yourself. If so I'd love to see your efforts.

Steve Powers πΊπΈ ESPO β’ New York Street Art β’ New Release, by veralynn on Feb 13, 2009 21:20:36 GMT 1, I'm not bothered about that per se - I just don't want my 7 year old daughter bowling into school saying shit this and that, if that makes me some kind of snob then so be it....for that reason 'morons' wouldn't make my wall either.
Its got bugger all to do with her looking at art in the same way and I don't think that having this on my wall would enrich her life, a holiday to Costa Rica rather than Disney, that would enrich her life and when she's old enough she'll go there.....

Steve Powers πΊπΈ ESPO β’ New York Street Art β’ New Release, by chablis on Feb 13, 2009 23:04:48 GMT 1, I'm more than confident that we are soon to see a release from a familiar source of a 12 colour beauty from espo with two background options I'd hazard a guess at it being released on Thursday sadly, my crystal ball now has a flat tyre and can no longer provide sensible information on this subject. good guess work-
Bloody miraculous, do you have Saturdays lottery numbers? I'd settle for 5 out of 6.

Steve Powers πΊπΈ ESPO β’ New York Street Art β’ New Release, by Heavyconsumer on Feb 14, 2009 3:21:41 GMT 1, Not my thing at all. Never really enjoyed anything I've seen by Eine either. In fact I struggled to get into Faile's art for a long time, because I felt it was very typographically focussed. It just isn't my thing at all. Strangely enough I'm often quite drawn to calligraphy when I see it, especially some of the wood carvings I saw in Vietnam years ago (I always found it interesting how they use our alphabet to write their language, which sounds so incompatible when you hear it). Generally speaking though this type of art is not my bag at all.
As for price, these are pretty affordable by POW's recent standards aren't they? When was the last time they offered signed prints for below Β£200? I have no comment on the price, suffice to say I'm just not digging the art.
