Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by Winter on Feb 2, 2012 23:32:28 GMT 1, Went to Gagosian in Kings Cross today. A really impressive show in a massive space. Loved the tiny spots, someone's got a steady hand. Sorry for the particularly rubbish pic.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by stang on Feb 3, 2012 1:48:28 GMT 1, Wow! Starting today is insane! Respect. Good luck challenger!
Ha! Thanks a lot! Hoping the timing works out ok- not much space for travel hiccups or any potential civil unrest that may occur along the way!!
Today's adventures;
God awful pics from Geneva below which give winter's a run for their money- my IPhone seemed to have a breakdown with the madness of it all
On train enroute to Paris... A balmy -7C in Geneva this morning
Paris Gallery - awesome space - best since Britannia St. - sorry again for truly awful pics,
Home safe with the spoils of my trip- wife unimpressed with her "surprise present from Paris"....
4 down 7 to go...taking a break till Wednesday, when the plan is to hit 5 over three weary days.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by sammyman on Feb 4, 2012 23:55:00 GMT 1, Hey guys, I'm a challenger. I had one day to visit Rome on my 12 day trip, which I did today. However, the Rome employees decided due to the snow that they wouldn't come in to work. So now I am almost done with my trip and I won't be able to even finish!
If I lived in London, getting back to Rome would be no big deal. But I live in California. And making a second trip to Rome doesn't sound enticing. Especially if I don't know when the gallery will be open.
Glad you all are having better luck than me!

Surely they can acknowledge you visiting/travelling to Rome. If not that's a joke.
Hope you get them to tick it off for you

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by sammyman on Feb 5, 2012 1:18:19 GMT 1, You'd think that would be an easy solution. Unfortunately, someone from NY doesn't think it is an option. She is "pretty high up" (own words) at Gagosian. I'm still waiting to hear from the person in charge of the challenge.
Anyway, I looked at flights and there is a 0% chance I could make Rome and then make my flight to Hong Kong. This is really lame.

If the gallery is not open during the stated hours on the contest page then you are by no means in the wrong here.
They should make good, take a picture of yourself in front of the gallery and the closed sign with a newspaper from that day.

Looks like they will be taking care of me! That is a relief. Really didn't want to travel around the world twice.

Cheers for that pal.
^ If you are in the West End the Other Criteria galleries are not too far apart. One is full of spots and the other has mainly skull works and other artists. Both galleries not 'massive' but I enjoyed them. Outsiders not tooooo far away. (Check if exhibitons are still on
I dont think ill have time to visit much, i have an appointment and a train to catch with not much time between the two.

Especially with this quote from the guy in the Wall Street Journal article "In the course of my journey, I spent a total of an hour and 40 minutes in the galleries. Mostly, I was indifferent to the art"
How many galleries are on the challange? 11? He spent 9 minutes per?

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by johnnyh on Feb 6, 2012 7:47:12 GMT 1, I think it's quite a cool idea for people to do. I know I have been contacted by a few members who came out to Hong Kong and probably otherwise would not have.
Sure they had a good time and saw something they would not normaly. There are not many challenges and adventure left in our hum drum lives but what a nice thing to do.
London, New York, Paris, LA, Athens, Hong Kong, Geneva. A mad week or a little lesuirely art tour over a few weeks or two trips.
Only disapointment is I thought he would do a raffle for an orig but that is not mentioned.
Any way lovely trip and you get a spot print Dedicated. What better thing to have on your wall as an art lover. Basically with that the trip is free. Talking myself into it here if I could I def would and if I can get a week before it ends I just might do.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by Deleted on Feb 6, 2012 18:33:49 GMT 1, The average Joe does not usually get the chance to own a Damien Hirst piece. But that could change thanks to a campaign called #AverageJoe. It was set up by Josef Valentino, 22, who is trying to complete the Spot Challenge; a competition set up by Hirst to promote his latest global retrospective. To complete the challenge, entrants must visit all 11 Gagosian gallery locations around the world where the artist is exhibiting. The winner - chosen by Hirst - will then receive one of his original pieces. Valentino, who lives in east London, is selling shares at ยฃ20 each in a bid to raise ยฃ10,000 to make the trip, shareholders will then own the piece www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-24032944-above-average-chance-of-you-owning-a-hirst.doPossibly joevalentino?

Why? Last weekend I was in New York and the flights were almost empty. The point is the plane was flying with or without me. Imo the competition is good for airlines on an economic point of view.

Whats not to understand, its a marketing exercise and a good one at that... IMO
Environmentally the planes will be flying anyway, with or without the completion!
Monetary wise, if your a big Hirst fan you will get a spot print dedicated to yourself! Which when you work out the ruff price around 2.5k its not that bad a deal...... If your a massive Hirst Fan that is....

Economically of course....but not environmentally. And surely the fewer people making unnecessary trips then eventually airlines will cut back on flights. Simple supply and demand.

Considering only 3% of the whole world on average fly, IMO this is the smallest worry the environment has... Have a word with the Chinese who buy a new car every 2 seconds and build a new coal power station on average every week....

Just because there are worse things does not make flying environmentally friendly.

Sorry, where did i state flying was environmentally friendly?!! That's right i didn't...
Merely making my/a point that the Hirst competition isn't a grave concern for the environment. and IMO not environmentally damaging!
