Some of the galleries aren't open on a Saturday either so I figured I would need at least 5 days holiday, probably more to make the trip more enjoyable

I very much doubt Gagosian gallery would open so you can get a stamp

Does anyone know where I can find a complete list of official spot print editions, with details?

I have been thinking about this a lot, pros and cons, the cons are

you will need either a large chunk of time from work taken off, or a lot of separate trips. A few of the galleries arent open saturdays, most arent Monday as has been said on here.

If you're doing Hong Kong and or NYC, LA separately, you'll need a saturday night stay to get the cheaper flights( and I guess the idea is not to spend shed loads of money, otherwise you would have been better off buying one of the OC releases).

Its a lot worse for anyone in Asia or LA as the minimum flying time fro LA is 5.5 hours and Asia must be 10+.

Flights get more expensive closer to the departure date, hotel costs (US and HK), living expenses and travel costs while in the City..


you either have to be a) rich (but then you could just buy a print), b) have a job that allows you to travel (to these destinations during the show) c) no family commitments d) fanatical...

Im still tempted though!

sorry if this has been answered somewhere along the thread, but how long do you have to complete the challenge?

ok, i just got a quote for 1500 that would go the opposite of my original plan and would entail 3 days off work (this doesn't include the european destinations which i could just do on wkends)

Leave thurs for nyc, arrive thurs at noon, go to galleries

leave friday morning for LA, arrive afternoon, go to galleries

leave saturday for hong kong, arrive monday afternoon.

go to gallery tuesday, leave tuesday night arrive in London in time for work wednesday.

can't believe me and my mate are actually considering it. The funny thing is, we keep asking each other how much the print would be worth if we did it, but after doing it, i'd reckon you want to keep it for the experience!

This is prints, not originals...

Eyestorm prints:

Opium - Edition of 500
LSD - Edition of 300
Valium - Edition of 500

Then call Paragon Press who have released at least 3 lots of woodcuts.

Then call Other Criteria who have done these screen prints and the metallic ones.

I assume the new book on spots just covers the originals, not the prints.

I put this thought to bed over the weekend,having wracked my brain for about 10 days but now reading you lot I think the fire in my loins has returned...!
Its much more expensive from OZ...cheapest round the world ticket I could find was $3800 but that excluded internal travel within Europe, and then accom. on top...cant be cheap spending a night in Geneva etc...

Gagosian Hong Kong will be closed on the 24 and the 25 of Jan for the Chinese New Year.

i got an email from gagosian saying that the prints are not made yet, won't be made till the galleries close. Then damien (or his elves) will make the prints to the edition number of the number of people who completed it.

I reckon gotta be less than 50 right?

No where near the full amount. Aside from the Eyestorm and Other Criteria ones, Paragon have over the years released 20 or so spot prints in various sizes. These are all documented in the current and forthcoming Contemporary Art in Print books they publish every now and then.

There is the momart Spot print encased in Acrylic, the Etching published in Bregenz last year.

The list goes on, short answer is there are an awful lot of them.

When you look at the Eyestorm prints, take for example LSD, an edition of 300, Lambda on Gloss Fuji Archive and priced £10k+ exempt VAT.
The OC prints look good value (good value if you can afford them that is) Editions of 100, screen print for £3.3k-£3.6k.

Maybe. That price for the LSD is pretty ridiculous though. Just saw one sell on eBay recently for 2K usd, which is WAY cheaper than OC prints are now.

Widely forged particularly in the States which makes the OC prints good value because they are genuine, wouldnt go near LSD unless I knew the seller which is probably why that e-bay sale seems like good value. Just google Hirst fake prints!!

Went to the london art fair last night. The spots are on show on the OC stand. Both the controlled substances sets. I couldn't help myself with these when I saw them. Expect a couple of sale threads as I move stuff around.

Try finding an LSD print from a gallery or on here for £2k, I'd buy it.
I passed on them originally because I spent all my money on booze and women (not sure that's a true statement) more like mortgage, bills etc etc. Although I've always been on the lookout, until the fakes hit the market that is. Even top galleries were passing these through the doors (alleged)
If these float your boat then you have a print you can admire and more importantly, you have piece of mind knowing they were not knocked up in the back room of your local pub.
