Martin Whatson • Punk's not Dead Print, by portfolio on Mar 14, 2012 22:41:39 GMT 1, it is pretty obvious though DD... Yes I get the title punks not dead look babies are being made, the point I was making in an obtuse way was how facile a piece this is, tired imagery, poorly thought out, using a joke that's been told before. Martin is skilled enough to make something so much better than this and yet falls back on weak stereotypical urban bench mark art images. (I've already given this work more than enough of my time)
why don't you just succinctly wrap it up? it's shit.

Martin Whatson • Punk's not Dead Print, by mayhem on Mar 14, 2012 22:44:00 GMT 1, £200?? i seen a martin whatson OG sell for about £120 on ebay the otherday The last 4 or 5 pieces I have watched sell on eBay have gone cheap. All good for the people wanting to buy IMO. I dont think his work is known to the masses and its not going to draw in much attention. I think its only a small percent of the original buyers that would think they are going to boost a tidy profit. The rest are people who like his work and have a couple or few of his pieces and if they like the latest edition, would not be bothered about the price at the cost of the releases at present. £200 for a print I like, is not a problem for me. Not if the Mrs can spend that on a handbag to stick in the wardrobe and never to be seen again.

I was pushing for a deeper meaning than the title, the point I was making is there is no meaning to this (other than the extremely obvious) it's 'flat' a one note piece. Try explaining this piece to someone with no links to this scene you'll see what i mean. On the face of it you're quite right and lets face it, thats what matters.

Martin Whatson • Punk's not Dead Print, by tussyville on Mar 14, 2012 23:24:09 GMT 1, It would be a stronger piece without the text or if the text were connected to the punk scene--for example: the artist could have created the image of a fresh piercing or tattoo on the punk, he could have shown blood dripping from that to indicate it was self-applied or haphazardly applied, and then he could have shown the text written in blood to imply the punk's wound is his paintbrushm, giving the punk a defining action. This violent imagery would give depth to the text, tie it into the piece in a meaningful way, and provide a better juxtaposition with the imagery of the carriage, which is supposed to represent maturation and conformity on the part of the parent, which of course is contradicted by the punk's appearance.

Drogba was shameful. Clutching his face like that! And the cheeky glance to see what was happening. He forgets that he is a role model for kids in football. It makes it do much harder to explain to kids in grass roots football that they shouldn't be doing this, when their idols do it so blatantly. Same issue with barrating the ref. kick it out of football.

The punctuation is fine. 's is an informal contraction of is. IT'S legal and grammatically kosher.

Re Chelsea fans, they do seem to have a lot of daytripping 'fans' with their cameras etc. Not sure where they were in the nineties before the money came. Even now they often seem to have Champions league tickets available for a fair few of the games, so I guess they rely on these types to fill the ground.

Pretty sad situation for a wannabe 'big' club though isn't. They are in the capital and can only hold 40000, but still can't fill the ground with genuine, excited vocal fans who are capable of anything more than singing mindless thug-like rhymes.

If that comment was a print, you'd probably sell quite a few.
Its the best thing i've seen on here for years.
I'd just try for the sake of it, people are buying far worse and getting animated about it.
In fact, you sell it to me, i'll hype it and sell it back to you and then we'll create a little microcosm of interest where people think they can flip it to make a quick buck.
You in?

Someone should right a thesis on the psychology of a forum who's sole function is to approve of a certain taste, to sell at profit. (Yes that's a massively simplified statement).

"The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it."

This sums Chelsea up perfectly for me, most of them don't even know what they are cheering, they just jumped on the Burberry bandwagon 10 years ago and forgot to climb off.
On another note I'm a bit surprised (or am I?) that Whatson has rehashed this older image. (seem to remember it kicking around a couple of years ago). I'd like to see him progress as an artist rather than revisit previous works.
