Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Daniel Silk on Mar 2, 2008 15:44:34 GMT 1, But being good would help. ;D I'd agree that some/a lot of of his stuff is,let's say naive(sorry silky)but I'm giving him a break on this one,I like it.
Yeah, I agree! ;D but when you take in to account his age then I think he's doing a great job and deserves to be encouraged ;D Its gonna be interesting watchin his work develop over the next 5-10 years

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by imbue on Mar 4, 2008 12:48:12 GMT 1, Judging by the 1st picture, there's already a critic out there... Behind the bin, the author of the NOT GRAFF insight has written (from memory) something like "were's your burner". Is that street art speak for something? I find his collages a bit obscure, but he's trying. Not sure what that lolly pop lady is about though, pro-abortion? human-kind-is-a-plague?
Yeah a burner is like a full free-hand piece loads of colours etc.
You have...
A tag: one colour, a quick name.
A dub/throw up: two colours usually black and chrome or black and white always seen on train lines.
A piece: 3 or more colours, some time taken on it a lot of style.
A burner: Loads of colour maybe some characters etc well planed very well painted.
There you go

It's just a piss take on the royals isn't it ? Queenie as a lollypop lady maybe we'll have her old man as a trolley collector at asda to go with it.

Is that really supposed to be the queen? I can't work out if it looks more like a man or a woman.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Harveyn on Mar 4, 2008 17:54:06 GMT 1, Hi Carlitto - I don't think there is any deep routed meaning just a tongue and check poke at the Queen. Not unlike some of Dface's pokes (I am not comparing the quality of the work in anyway). I am not really pro or anti royalist it just make me smile.
As to the questions about is it the Queen? Even my wife recognized it instantly so whilst I think the questions about the complexity of the image and its purpose are just I think the issue of likeness is slightly unkind. IMO.

This is just the start for a very young artist, but who is already much more well known than any other artist of his generation. Certainly one for the future
