Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by seidbereit on Jan 15, 2008 17:09:56 GMT 1, So you started this thread knowing that he'd get bashed as a well-planned stunt based upon the "any publicity is good publicity" idea? How much do you charge to set up a forum for someone like him and put it in the link-box above? How much "free" art did you get out of it? Or have you taken absolutely nothing except the good feeling you get from helping a "nice kid"? If anyone has a stake in his rep, it would be you, right?
Steady on!

I know many people would like to believe that but I get paid nothing, and I actually bought two pieces from Cartrain (might have been the first ever pieces he has sold) and I paid him over three times the amount he asked for ;D
Ya see, its whats called helping people out doing something positive for the graffiti/street art scene ;D

That is why I asked instead of making blind accusations or assumptions like "You all would have probably dissed Banksy before he got hyped".

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by kiki on Jan 15, 2008 17:40:48 GMT 1, some Query whether he would dare do the same with an unsigned Banksy piece such as 'Ratapult', especially if it had not yet been added to Banksy's website. It was added to Banksys website about the same time the artist painting the knob was!!! eddiedangerous - I was aware of this. I was using 'Ratapult' as an example, but also saying it would be even more interesting with pieces that Banksy had not already claimed as his (i.e. in cases where knowledgeable Banksy fans knew untagged work was nevertheless by Banksy, but where the general public might be fooled and misled into believing it was executed by Cartrain if Cartrain added his tag to it).

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by daveanthony28 on Jan 15, 2008 17:43:08 GMT 1, Don't want to get into it too much but isn't this lad still only 15 years of age ? How many of us were brave enough to have a go at this age ?? & tagging next to the banksy work i do not agree but again at 15 years of age surely the lad can be given support from this forum for his effort, or is that to much to ask these day's ??

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by kiki on Jan 15, 2008 17:52:25 GMT 1, Yep! We are talking about him and thats all that matters. If you looked at 100% of the things that get written about Banksy, Im sure a good chunk of them would be saying he's a vandal, and should be arrested Cartrain is making a name for himself and good on him! ;D
If I made crap art and put it all over the place, people would be talking about me as well. I could fart loudly in the tube every day during rush hour. No doubt this would also get people talking.
Is that really "all that matters" to you?

Quite agree Dave. Some of his work is very good and he has bags of potential imo. Just don't stray too close to the master!
Silky would love to see pictures of your purchases.

I remember a post a while back from Jeff Aerosol who had one of his sitting boy images slightly changed by an artist abroad. Jeff embraced the guy's love of stenciling & even went to lengths of giving him tip's too. that'sa big part of what it's all about in my book - not just the next big print release !

Whilst I respect your generosity and eagerness to help aspiring artists, Silky (it has and always will be a nice attribute to the forums and your character) I find this work unoriginal and entirely poorly executed. Look at his tag/name stencil. what is going on there? and, does George Bush have a cold sore? what is that dripping from his lip on the right side in the stencil? Surely someone with an eye for detail would know to cut remove that from the stencil. That's the problem. he is just a copier he has no artistic vision.

Do you mean that, when all the townspeople are wildly praising the magnificent new clothes of the emperor, you don't see much point in the child saying "But he has nothing on!"?

Big ups to all for quality thread. finally some disagreement that did not get vicious. albeit a little witty and biting.
