MIR, by hungrig on May 30, 2007 18:27:22 GMT 1, Poor man's Banksy.
Very generic, from the 'Love Is In The Air'-style protester to the use of Banksy's trademark drips with the heart.
Although I don't believe this image is original or unique enough to merit a print, I would be interested in hearing differing views.

I think its the sort of print that anyone would like on the wall ;D So many of the stuff we see coming out is good but people come back on here and say the girlfriend of wife aint gonna let them have it up on the wall But "Love Protest" surely would be a hit ;D

We gotta remember that just coz we all know Banksy's work we cant really say who came first MIR might have bin doing this image for years before Banksy even started ;D

MIR, by numusic on May 30, 2007 19:41:05 GMT 1, errrm.. nice try silk's, but afraid not. Besides, I don't think the "who came first" is really an issue anymore.. who painted the first bowl of fruit ? fucked if I know..point is more how these themes are interpreted. We don't live in a vacuum, we are all of us exposed to the same uncaring consumer driven fat cat capitalist greed is good islam baiting crusading christian muslim fundamentalist socialist fearing vacuous celebrity loving media driven big business blood money bollox.. where is the love asks MIR, asks Banksy, asks Arofish asks Beejoir.. and they ask it with a piece of cardboard and a spray can.. and it's sweeping the globe.. fuckin hell.. whey hey ! who cares who came first !?!... copy and paste, more power to em.
MIR's work is excellent, whatever, whenever.. a calm cool collected guy with a unique style of cutting that casts a nod to banksy in content (what doesn't), but is rarely if ever, in awe of, or derivative of him.

I love a debate.
It is of course possible that MIR has been hiding this work in his bedroom for a decade, and only turned to graffiti in the last two or three years.
However, somehow I doubt it. I am comfortable in stating Banksy came first, and that Banksy was one of MIR's key influences.
Even if I were to be proven wrong, I would argue that circulating an image merely perceived to be derivative by the wider public is bad form.
By way of illustration, if I had written "Blue Monday" in 1980 (and New Order nicked it from me before distributing it as a single in 1983), I would not be releasing my version of the song now. The time has passed. My duty as an artist would be to create something new.

MIR, by numusic on May 30, 2007 19:57:11 GMT 1, Hungrig... "My duty as an artist would be to create something new" ?.. sorry, but that old chestnut called modernism died out the day Venturi started creating buildings and stealing from the past to create the future.. Charles Jencks called it Post-modernism.. the rest of the world call it cut n paste... it's been around for 30 years or so.. anyone who's started a foundation course or degree in graphics, fine art, illustration, photography.. whatever... are actively taught this. You're a tad behind the times

A tad behind the times?
There is no doubt about that. I even insist that "Old skool" be spelled as "Old school".

MIR, by Martin Whatson on Jun 1, 2007 1:02:47 GMT 1, I really feel MIR's work because hes so dedicated. He has painted loads in both Oslo and Amsterdam as i visited latest. Also he has "branded" himself with the orange and black instead of white and black. I think this is a guy we really have to look out for.
As for this other discussion. Who said banksy has the copyright of using hearts with drips. Art and Design is based on copying or at least getting inspiration from allready made things.
Cool canvas aswell.
