I sold my 2 Banksy signed prints to pay for my wife's IVF. Thankfully it was 4th time lucky so no regrets.

Cannot imagine a better reason to sell art, and an outcome further from a regret. Congratulations. Lovely.

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by bradk on Dec 7, 2019 0:42:37 GMT 1, What artists do you think people are sleeping on at the moment? I definitely need to get out more and open my eyes to other emerging artists then the ones talked about on here. Anyone anyone suggests looking at? There are a ton of artists with originals still at a reasonable price, and less than prints from many of the artists discussed here. I love seeing what Jonni Cheatwood is doing, I know one of the forum members recently picked up a canvas from him. Kind of reminds me of Eddie Martinez. I also like Brandon Lipchik, who I discovered following Oli Epp on IG. I've inquired about a canvas from Brandon and they're not totally out of this world price wise. But yeah, I feel like local art shows and instagram are the discovery tools for me.
Couldn't agree more, prints are great and what essentially got me into collecting but I find buying an original from a true emerging artist so much more satisfying - firstly you have something totally original and the excitement of watching that artist career grow and knowing that in the smallest way possible, you've ultimately helped them along financially and with some exposure even if to just friends and family!
I write this as I brought a Brandon Lipchik this year and totally love it - one of my favourite works in my modest but ever growing collection!!

I can't remember if the yellow, red and black were a set but they were relatively easy to snag at that point. I also considered buying those prints but I just couldn't see myself staring at Sponge Bob Squarepants on my walls. I can't stand his voice. Absolutely no regrets.

Had one reserved at Ruttkowski, cancelled my hold, had second thoughts and called to purchase but it was sold out by then. Quite a small print but would look great in my hallway (considering the limited amount of wall space left).

Probably about 10 years ago? And yes there were loads of canvases around

The people who walked passed or looked and did not buy something from the stall in NYC. It could have been worse you could have been the owner of the stall next door sitting there all day. But it proved it's point no one's bothered!

Canvas was priced at $600 and had been posted for a year. Figured I had a day or two to think about it. It sold within 2 hours of me being aware of it. When his gallery sent me current available pieces they were much simpler pieces for much higher prices. Lesson? If you love it, buy it. Worry about the credit card later. But you better really love it or you may find yourself regretting it or having to sell it for less than you paid to pay off the bill.

But I'd also assume it was knockoffs therefore I wouldn't have bought one myself so I can't blame others. I walk passed windows filled with Banksy knockoffs all the time.

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by kuni on Dec 23, 2020 16:19:49 GMT 1, Looking back on the year, anything you regret not purchasing this year?
For me it's the Jan Kalab mini canvases. The colors are incredibly vivid, the edition #'s are incredibly low, and they look great as a set of 3. I remember looking at them and thinking "you should grab that set for the long hallway" and then forgetting about it until I saw Charlie Bronson post them.

I didn't pull the trigger (could have bid $1,501) but wish I had as I definitely can't get an original for that price anymore (if at all).

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by Charlie Bronson on Dec 23, 2020 18:55:03 GMT 1, For me it was a recent occurrence, the Butterfly dome pieces by Whatson. I don’t have a Whatson piece, and tbh I’m not the biggest fan of his work, but I really liked these butterfly sculpture pieces and if I was to ever own a Whatson, this would be the one. Had an invoice for one of the eleven medium size versions he made, but passed on it. Needless to say the whole series sold out right away. I had the perfect spot for it and regret not pulling the trigger.
