This image represents my support for the Occupy movement, a grassroots movement spawned to stand up against corruption, imbalance of power, and failure of our democracy to represent and help average Americans. On the other hand, as flawed as the system is, I see Obama as a potential ally of the Occupy movement if the energy of the movement is perceived as constructive, not destructive. I still see Obama as the closest thing to “a man on the inside” that we have presently. Obviously, just voting is not enough. We need to use all of our tools to help us achieve our goals and ideals. However, I think idealism and realism need to exist hand in hand. Change is not about one election, one rally, one leader, it is about a constant dedication to progress and a constant push in the right direction. Let’s be the people doing the right thing as outsiders and simultaneously push the insiders to do the right thing for the people. I’m still trying to work out copyright issues I may face with this image, but feel free to share it and stay tuned…

If the image has been made from observation of someone wearing a 'V' mask then there shouldn't be any issue of copyright. Fair use. And irony on irony - the idea of the character V wearing the mask was the idea of British artist David Lloyd.

What a joke, Shep worrying about copyright issues lol... but he'll nick the image anyway... he just can't stop himself.

Wasn't Shep the man that threatened to use his, now very considerable, wealth to sue a man who parodied his Andre the giant mask?

The 26 year old artist Baxter Orr who showed an image of Andre the Giant breathing through a surgical mask (a reference to Sars) on his website, got a legal letter known as a "cease and desist" order. Shep demanded the young illustrator remove the images as they were a "clear violation of copyright" lol lol lol (pot kettle anyone?)

having nicked nearly all his images wholesale from Russian revolutionary art he threatens legal action on another artist.

Having moved from one fashionable cause "Obama" - who we now Know has insisted the British government must not reveal torture information, because if they do America will sever all future intelligence sharing with with us... nice - so keeping your complicity in torture very quiet aren't you mr Obama?

Obama has also just signed an executive order allowing America to assassinate any americans it likes when abroad. Totally against international law of course... but he doesn't give a toss about law, or human rights evidently.

Where as Bush just wanted to rendition and torture people, Obama just want extra judicial killings... saves the risk of embarrassment when the truth comes out in court..

So now Shepard fairy is finding another fashionable movement to align himself to.

I just see Shep as an endless bandwagon jumper.

The reason Occupy has happened is because Obama didn't.
"Hope" has turned to despair... It looks like we've all been fooled again.

Obama has tragically turned out to be a corporate puppet. The only recourse now is for people to take to the streets and get their heads split by the paramilitary police force (that ironically took an oath to protect and serve the "people")

And that is what is happening.. can we occupy the streets Mr Obama?

Everyone should be supporting the Occupy movement. I don't care what he has done in the past or what his motives are. Lets be inclusive and get some real change.

I do have a problem with Jay Z who is coming out with Occupy t shirts to sell for profit not for the movement.

For that I say pirate Jay's music and don't spend a cent on anything he puts out. (not that I was going to anyway).

Indeed - as the BANKSY print of the time so simply dealt it. You can vote for a pink doughnut; you can vote for a brown doughnut but it's still the same doughnut under the sugar coating.

Thanks for the nice comments here and via email over my drawings. I've just tried to put a personal face on a protest that the mainstream media (if they cover it at all) are so keen to knock down as being just driven by 'political' agitators... whatever they are... sometimes I dream that there's a large population of 'political agitators'.

Fairey's new 'Hope' poster is honestly terrible. I'm a little perplexed that he even released this image.

And - for the record - Obama may not have lived up to everyone's (unrealistic) expectations, but I for one think he is doing a solid job. He was left with a mess in the White House courtesy of George Bush and he is doing only so much that is possible to keep things stable in a very unstable global economy.

A second term for Obama is an absolute necessity for the United States to really get back on its feet.
