Antony Micallef, by jonpud on Jul 24, 2007 20:20:00 GMT 1, You're crazy if you don't think prices are going to go up after one of the most anticipated art shows of the year. Happens every single time on a sold out show. It's like Groundhogday here.
Assume you are refering to my comment? Didn't say that I didn't think they would go up, just said that the prices have shot up before the show by miles and that I feel they will only rise a small amount after the show, or not by the same percentage as artists in the past.
Tis only an opinion, I have been known to be wrong twice already this year!

Antony Micallef, by ABC on Jul 24, 2007 20:24:42 GMT 1, Im cashing in, well on one anyway, HFUNG on the bay now. Yes I agree that the BIN price is high but when MWIH are selling for over 4k why would I sell mine for 2k just so someone else can sell on? I bought my Micallefs before the hype so I wasn't expecting these crazy prices, I also agree its a hard pill to swallow when you want one. Make me an offer I can only say no but if its 1.5k I will say no and save you the trouble.

I have read your post several times and it translates as 'Shit, i would never have sold it for this price if I had realised it was worth this much!'
In other words a deal was struck with a seller who misjudged the value but honourably stuck by his quted price, it wasn't a deal where the seller knew the going rate and decided to sell it for half its value out of the goodness of his heart!
Still, fair play for honouring the deal!

Antony Micallef, by graeme501 on Jul 24, 2007 20:53:40 GMT 1, not at all jonpud, the print was purchased from an online gallery which, if u saw all the prints it sells, knows more than any1 the value of prints
i agreed the price midway before the micallef price boom, and payed the price that was asked for the print, which was the normal price, however there was a period of a few weeks inbetween the agreement and the sale, where the price exploded.
as i never have delt or met with this person, i thought they might pull the deal, but thankfully, he stuck to his word

Antony Micallef, by jonpud on Jul 24, 2007 21:02:40 GMT 1, Ahhh I see! Fairenuf, I kind of had the same experience recently with a 21stCL so I understand now where you are coming from. Sounds like you got in just at right time!
Its nice when people stick to their word, I have had instances where the opposite has happened, agree a deal on the Monday, travel 200 miles to pay in cash on the Saturday and find that the seller has changed his mind!
Nowt worse!

tbh im not to bothered about the price its worth to sell on as i fully intend to keep it for a good long while, altough its always nice for it to b worth more, coz u dont know what the future holds
i was just happy that i got the print when i could afford it, because now its out my reach

Don't think you'll get any disagreement on that score. Still 600 quid is still a lot of money. Not too long ago I thought Laz's prices for the 50 edition prints was a p*sstake. They almost seem reasonable given the current climate. I can't help wondering where Micallef will be at in a years time. Frightening whichever way you look at it.

He will probably be sitting at home contemplating why he didn't buy a 21stCL when he could have afforded it!! ;D

One of the plastics contains petroleum and other oils which could eff up your prints if in contact over a long period (so I am lead to beleive) But there are other plastics which can be used but don't know what they are! Anyone??

Yes some were professionally framed in purpose built moulded perspex boxes. the perspex used is the type that blocks a high % of UV etc. and there is a gap between print and the perspex.

- particularly with the small number of prints that have been produced and the fact they will soon start to find permanent places of residency decreasing supply.................

In this instance I have to agree: The only way is up... I know I am only contributing to the hype but I really think this is going to be Micallef year (with Banksy taking some time off)

Antony Micallef, by uglyiq on Jul 25, 2007 0:33:37 GMT 1, Interesting thread so thought I'd contribute my ha'penny worth...while I agree that overall Mic's are as safe a bet as you're ever gonna get in this business to appreciate, although far more important is the fact that they are just so F888ING beautiful, especially the ยฃ4K Lazincs, there are exceptions.... My friend was desperate to get a JD & then it BIN'd at ยฃ2.5K and suddenly that was a "benchmark" price... he was still adament he wanted it so I offered a bunch of people ยฃ2.2K cash and got turned down flat...right now I wouldn't pay more than ยฃ1.8K. The sooner people - especially people like us who really are 'collectors' of art & not just transit rooms for unopened tubes - the sooner people start accepting reasonable bids for pieces instead of thinking that every single print is always gonna sell for the highest price that's ever been paid for it, then the sooner we can stabilise prices and actually afford to buy the pieces we want through Forums....otherwise we might just as well go back to paying Gallery mark-ups.... OK rant over, sorry, and yes sometimes we're gonna "lose" out financially on the odd piece (and having sold 4 signed Banksy's for the princely sum of ยฃ350 each in 2005 just before it all blew up I'm speaking from experience) but without giving stuff away I think a little bit of give and take is gonna benefit us all in the end....when & if we do want to 'cash-in' there will still be plenty of "Portfolio Collectors" out there who we can bust for the top dollar....
