roffle This word originated from the abreviation : ROFL = Roll On Floor Laughing. Which is a term widely used in internet chatrooms and instant messaging software. Roffle evolved due to people readling ROFL like a normal word rather than spelling out each letter as R. O. F. L.
Roffle is therefore the casual friendly way to say ROFL and can be used as a verb in its own right:

I think it's fresh and you can't deny Remi has his own distinctive style. In no way is he having a laugh, stop being a c**t
i would 100% disagree that this is his own distinctive style, its is very very similar to the paintings by that artists that are in the tate
someone help me out with a name as ive forgotten

Remi Rough π¬π§ New Print Release β’ Exhibition News , by elwheel on Jan 25, 2009 19:13:50 GMT 1, Very nice indeed Remi - and it would very easily get past the wall police here! Are you sure about Rothko hero? Cant see any shred of similarity in style, technique or even influence. Have a look at some Gerhard Richters maybe.

if you went to the tate when it was on, they had one of the pictures and shone a special light on it, and the light showed up all these different layers, which you really do not notice-but are what make the image work
if you look at this one, there are loads of layers of words and colours behind it...im not saying its a direct similarity, but its quite nice to have something similar i would say ;D

I see what you're saying dude, got to be honest, Rothko is not one of my faves... Franz Kline, yes definitely... but also Elwheel, Richter is amazing!

So on the basis of one particular painting, (that you've only seen in a lo resolution jpeg by the way), you're deciding that my 25 year career as an artist is pointless.
I get you're not into it, but until you've seen them in the flesh, or discussed with myself the rationale and reasoning behind what I do, you don't really have an opinion worth voicing do you? It's very easy for people like you to come on here and belittle some of the new artists.. but as a collector or "appreciator" you shouldn't bite the hands that feed you.
Constructive criticism goes a long way. and I for one appreciate a little constructive critique, it'd be a very tedious world if everyone liked the same thing.
I don't mind you knocking me at all, that's your prerogative, I do mind however, you making assumptions about things and people you know absolutely nothing about though.
I see too many artists getting shit from people on here and it won't cut with me, i've been at this a whole lot longer than you've been spending your monthly bonuses on street art.
So please do all the artists on here a favour and show some respect.

Remi Rough π¬π§ New Print Release β’ Exhibition News , by graeme501 on Jan 25, 2009 23:22:18 GMT 1, im not embarrasing myself at all
maybe you would like to explain 'why u do what u do' because that seems to be a common response from artists on here when their work gets slated, very cartain-esq
so remi, as an artist, what to you bring that hasnt been seen before?

Remi Rough π¬π§ New Print Release β’ Exhibition News , by urbanangel on Jan 26, 2009 0:31:19 GMT 1, You can't upload hi-res images on the forum, as they end up too wide and make the forums hard to read. Most people reduce to 640 x 480 or 600 x 800.
Remi has been painting for 25 years and is a very respected street artist. A lot of people on here would be too young to have known about his past. He's paid his dues more than sufficiently. He was asked to speak at the Tate when they did their street art exhibition last year. The intro to his catalogue for his show in Aberdeen was written by Cedar Lewis.
Paul from Elms Lesters rates him as one of the biggest talents around at the moment...look who Elms have backed.
Remi's work has been bought (from us) by very serious collectors, who tend to spot something early on and have a 'feeling' about the work. These collectors would have some of the best collections of street art in the UK, possibly the world.
Of course everyone has a right not to like the work, no issue with that at all. But to question Remi as an artist is pure naivety and lack of knowledge.
For me personally, his work is some of the best i have seen in years. I cannot explain how strongly i feel about the current body of work.
Many very respected forum members on the other forum have made positive comments about Remi's work and i genuinely think he'll be a very collected artist.
But hey...i'm bias, so feel free to ignore me...

thats just my opinion, in the short and long run, it matters not, but i feel remi got too defensive, with stuff like 'you're deciding that my 25 year career as an artist is pointless' and 'I don't mind you knocking me at all, that's your prerogative, I do mind however, you making assumptions about things and people you know absolutely nothing about though' - i dont know where any of this came from
but like u said andrew, people with much more knowledge than me rate him, yourself included, i dont feel i questioned remi's career as an artist, i just said it wasnt for me

Remi Rough π¬π§ New Print Release β’ Exhibition News , by urbanangel on Jan 26, 2009 1:46:50 GMT 1, Hey Graeme...we're all friends here:)
You know you can sometimes read things the wrong way on the forums, then one thing leads to another:)
As you're a customer, i am loyal to you, and as Remi's dealer, i am also loyal to him.
Remi comes from a 'different circle' of street writers. He's old skool and then some...
His piers are people like Futura 2000, Saber, etc...a load of names he mentions i haven't even heard of...NYC writers from the 80's...even too early for an old bloke like me:)
I think that's why Paul from Elms likes him so much, as he represents a few of those older writers...Parla, Futura, Stash, etc.
Anyway...no harm done.
I genuinely think that for, say Β£3500, you get a hell of a lot of painting from Remi. 6ft by 5ft...i'm looking at one right now in my living room, and i can honestly say that i haven't sat and starred at a painting for so long in ages.

Remi Rough π¬π§ New Print Release β’ Exhibition News , by Martin DK on Jan 26, 2009 9:32:25 GMT 1, I think its a great piece Remi, other artist may be doing the same style, I dont know, I always look at an image, and if I like it I like it - thats it.
I often get in trouble here at home because, lets face it, this urban art/street art aint for everyone. Here people may go nuts about a new Banksy, which is qute understandable, but most of our friends and family just see some ink on a piece of paper, and could not care less.
I personally think that the style Remi puts out has a wider apeal, its abstract, the colors are good and very eye-catching, and it would look great on all those big white walls out there in this minimalistic time.
