Market forces - The Boat Missers, by gbh on Jan 3, 2007 9:07:09 GMT 1, Isn't it funny how now that prices have settled down a bit there are loads of people trying to offload prints for prices at a range similar to that pre settling...and not having a lot of luck.
I see more and more people talking the price up as much as they can.
I'm christening them "The Boat Missers". It's sailed, stop swimming and enjoy the art you have. That's what it's for after all.

Have to disagree with you there GBH, things have started moving again in the last couple of days, it was quiet whilst folk concentrated on crimbo, but the wheels are still on the wagon and its starting to roll again, good work to those that bought in the dip, grab whats left while you can as I dont think the boat has sailed yet. (IMO)

All due respect back atcha babe, but its not talk have a look at the way things are moving again on the bay, 2750 for a reaper? cant be bad, 1750 for unsigned chopper? I dont really pay much attention to talk, but prices speak for themselves.

Market forces - The Boat Missers, by gbh on Jan 3, 2007 10:26:17 GMT 1, maybe I've just been looking at the cheap stuff? seems there are plenty of unsigned mary's, rats, applause, etc not reaching reserves or going for what could be considered very good prices lately.
Have to say that 1750 for an unsigned chopper does make me eat my words though.

Market forces - The Boat Missers, by foundation on Jan 3, 2007 11:06:56 GMT 1, £5050 for the signed one last night, auctions that start at a sensible level and are left to run are doing well, scalpers with daft BIN / reservers are still feeling the lull as folk saw what was on offer 3 weeks ago at lower prices and dont feel ready to start chasing again as there is no shortage of marys, rats, flags, grannies etc... pretty much anything bought by scalpers for sale rather than fans. The more select peices are picking up, as the soup tins, lenin, heavy weaponary etc.. starting to see GWBs, MQ, TW etc coming out to play again.

Market forces - The Boat Missers, by thetongue on Jan 3, 2007 13:39:29 GMT 1, May be wrong but think the Reaper for £2750 was 'bought' by someone trying to up prices again, as only one bid on a BIN for something that was going for a grand less a week earlier is v strange!!
Hopefully prices will continue to drop

The future's still in signed, but you can't KNOW what's going to happen, it's just your opinion.

The future's still in signed, but you can't KNOW what's going to happen, it's just your opinion. I admit its only my opinion, but based on recent events I think its a more realistic POV than a continued slump.OK we will agree to disagree on this one tongue, but if unsigned prints are selling on average for less than they are now, by June the 3rd, I will appologise 100 percent and donate £50 to a charity of your choice. If they happen to rise? will you do the same?

Market forces - The Boat Missers, by gbh on Jan 3, 2007 20:42:49 GMT 1, 280063685425 love rat just went for 500 quid. I consider that to still be slump prices. Clearly the signed/top end market is improving while the turn and burn lower end is settling.
Looks like all the boat missers had cheap seats, not first class.

Market forces - The Boat Missers, by BME on Jan 4, 2007 10:34:52 GMT 1, There's certainly a big difference between the signed and unsigned prices but given that the unsigned rats originally cost £70, a sale at £500 represents a very healthy profit. Other unsigned prints continue to do well- the unsigned soup cans are still climbing and, given the strength of the image and the size of the edition, will probably continue to do so.

Market forces - The Boat Missers, by gbh on Jan 4, 2007 11:30:05 GMT 1, leom,
yes but we aren't talking about the overall increase since purchase. We are talking about current sale prices compared to previous sale prices. IMHO on unsigned pieces, SALE prices are lower than previous times right now. I'm sure they'll go up again at some stage..and I'm sure they'll dip again at some stage.

Depends on the time frame GBH, they are still going for more than last july so are up, but going for less than late november, so prices are down, as you say, its all subjective. Although this week they are going for more than 2 weeks ago, but people were keeping money aside for ghetto works then / santa stuff then, by this time next month once everyone has been paid again, things might be looking better.

Market forces - The Boat Missers, by BME on Jan 4, 2007 12:53:24 GMT 1, hey gbh,
Prices are certainly down on September- November period, I also agree that they are likely to rise again (particularly the older prints). If I can get my act together I might still try to pick up a couple of bits before they do!
:-)

Agreed, if I were a seller, I'd sell in a month or so to get what I think would be a better price. Everyone has been wrapped up in christmas and the ghetto, cash shortage etc.

Market forces - The Boat Missers, by ABC on Jan 7, 2007 2:24:13 GMT 1, An unsigned J &J Has gone to the 1k mark, thats a first I think so prices are on the rise again. Once the credit card bills are paid i think the levels will climb again.
