can anyone explain Shep pricing at all...no disrespect at all to easycraig, but I just don't understand why one print goes for 1750 and another for 250??? and each of them are from same run number?

It's the early date. Shep wasn't world famous and as I understand, he was printing his own prints at the time.

You will find very few prints from that time period in this condition. Especially desirable images like this one. Furthermore, HPMs did not exist then from Shep. You want Shep art from those early days, you're buying prints, and this is an amazing example that i'm sure wont come up again for a long time.

I have often wondered the same thing; assumed some prints are more desirable than others; but the range of values seems quite large to me.

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread a bit easycraig, but at least it's keeping it bumped...so why is this not so much the case with another stellar artist like, say, Banksy, an early banksy, like HMV is not worth like 8 times the value of one like Donuts...and it can't be about image as early shep images are not per se any bettre than stuff he does now....not wishing to pick any fights as I really like Shep...it's just the pricing seems to make no sense at all....

Please don't jump on me but, Did Banksy silkscreen his early prints or any of his prints?? I am just asking because I honestly don't know. I always thought that POW did all of his silkscreening.

These early Obey prints were personally done by SHEP. The ink was nice and thick and was used on a white paper compared to the recycled stuff he uses today. Also the edition sizes were about 150 and less. Last point to throw in is there aren't to many of these around these days, especially in a mint condition. Kids bought these back in the day thumb tacked or taped them to their walls and a lot of them have been tossed. Shep really didn't blow up until the mid 2000's. Therefore a lot of the people that bought and tossed back then didn't think much of it. Now there is a much lower number of examples with these earlier works. Just trying to help peopel understand why these early ones are so special and demand a higher price tag.

Now needless to say, any piece of art is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Most of the sub 2000 prints are especially if your a fan of Shep. My 2 cents

no worries on the thread hijacking, discussion is good. i can give you the basic info on this print. -it was made for a friend of Shep's , promoting the friends band 'the physics'. maybe 100 were made, and most were given away or sold at the concerts. -very few were ever signed. (maybe 10 i was told) the Giant board only found out about this print 3 years ago or so. Since then, - i believe 2 others have surfaced, and not in that great of condition. Pretty sure one sold through a store for $2400 a few years ago. -if you were trying to put together the full year of prints from 97, this could be one of the prints that would keep you from ever completing the year.... -its that tough. -the imagery on this one is very popular also.... classic icon face with simple red and black ink. -hell, the more i think about it.... - i am crazy for selling it.... lol... consider it sold..... i am keeping it! lol ec
