blek?, by Coach on Jul 8, 2007 1:22:16 GMT 1, i'm still very new to this forum, so apologies if i'm raking up what's been discussed many times before. i love banksy's work (and micallef, dface etc). but i read very little about blek. i own only one of his - beggar - and it takes a very proud place in my lounge. i think it's a fantastic print. i live in the sticks - not a city like many of you (i guess) and it's not to many visitors taste - and i love it all the more for it!. what's my point? i don't really have one - after a skin full of french wine, i just wanted to give a shout out for blek really - hope that's ok! coach.

Nice one ! + 1 for a sensibly drunk post. Blek is the man. Marked his place in art history long ago, he's been producing street work for 25 years and had influenced pretty much everyone involved !!! The heart and soul of street art.. living in the sticks ? you wanna step up and buy the sheep :-)

blek?, by scavos on Jul 8, 2007 11:57:58 GMT 1, Beggar in Paris is quite simply the best quality print I own. It was pricey at £300 but so worth it. The bold red and blue colours contrast perfectly with the beggar. A treasure! Looking forward to some new wor of his.

blek?, by ABC on Jul 8, 2007 20:27:39 GMT 1, I'm not going to sound negative here as Blek is the daddy but Since the first few releases over here IE Tango, Begger IMO the originals have been a little sloppy. Usually stencil art is never perfect as it is normally about creating something fast (Well it is on the wall) but Bleks Gallery pieces have been rushed and substandard IMO. If anyone saw the "David with Kalashnikov" at Eleven you will know what I mean. I stood talking about the figure for a while with forum members who all agreed that the feet were just terrible. Having said that about the originals as stated the prints are very well executed, in particular Tango is the nuts.

I agree to a certain extent. If you want a well thought out composition and something nice to look at with a lot of obvious work gone into it. Then don't buy Blek. But if you want a piece of street art history and you're into *Banksy. You gotta own a Blek.
*Can't do feet either :-)

blek?, by ABC on Jul 8, 2007 21:11:59 GMT 1, The old feet and hand scenario, pain in the arse for most artists I agree, but surely your not telling me they are done free hand without using some kind of template/photo-shop/large printer etc which makes it even worse IMO.
