Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by pezlow on Apr 2, 2008 8:01:21 GMT 1, Anyone see the piece in the Metro this morning? Tate modern will be holding it's first street art exhibition BUT it will all be outside the gallery. 6 Artists have been invited to do their stuff on the outside of the Tate Modern building. Apparently it will be visible from the train going over blackfriars bridge (which is great because that is the train I catch every day )
The artists included Faile and Blu.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by andrewd on Apr 2, 2008 8:05:55 GMT 1, Well as long as they don't employ someone to buff it.....I am thinking of the Banksy on the steps of Tate Britain and the Banksy on the bin outside Tate Modern which were painted over. The latter was painted over late last year when even the Tate must have known what it was! Seriously, it sounds great.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by pezlow on Apr 2, 2008 8:09:31 GMT 1, Tate art hits the streets
www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=131414&in_page_id=34
Street art will be exhibited at the Tate Modern for the first time โ but visitors won't have to go inside to see it.
The works of six artists from around the world will be sprayed on or attached to the outside of the huge former power station.
The art will almost completely cover the brickwork of the building, on the South Bank, in London, and will be visible to commuters as they arrive at Blackfriars station.
Curator Cedar Lewisohn said: 'All six artists are really different but their work is stunning.
'It's a bit like having a dinner party โ you pick people who will complement each other and set each other off. There will be a real range of techniques being showcased.'
Exhibitors include abstract psychedelic artist Sixeart, from Barcelona, the New York collective Faile, who are renowned for their use of stencils, and Italian artist Blu, who creates drawings on a grand scale.
All six have had work shown at museums across the globe but started painting on the street. The show runs from May 23 to August 25.

Yeah - bet they regret that now. Although in fairness Tate modern did, I understand, sell some Banksy prints in their shop back in the day.

The question we need to ask is how big will the BLU be on a building that big?

WOW! What a great news. I am really liking that it's going to be outside. Blu just needs a space - lots of it and if Faile will do something similar to their previous murals then I'll be there everyday ;D

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by Philippe on Apr 2, 2008 8:42:26 GMT 1, wow I heard rumors of this but it was speculation, I think its rather appropriate their doing it outside and they seem to have been given quit a big chunk of wall space. I wonder if the artists are going to collaborate on a piece together?

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by top on Apr 2, 2008 10:58:45 GMT 1, This is from Andy'77 link..
A Tate spokesman said a protective coating would be placed on the wall to avoid damage when they are removed.
Other street artists involved in the project include JR from France, renowned for putting photographs of people from deprived areas of Paris onto walls in the city's affluent districts.
Sixart from Barcelona and Brazilian twin brothers Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo will also submit ideas for the wall art.
The murals are expected to measure 15 metres by 12 metres, and will decorate the Turbine High Wall of the building, a former power station on the south bank of the Thames.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by Jef Aerosol on Apr 2, 2008 11:47:23 GMT 1, JR is a mighty boy ! We have the same editor : he published two excellent books. He's very young (24 or 25, I think) and his work is stunning ! He takes photos of people, usually close-ups in black and white, with a 28mm lens, so the faces are slightly distorted. He asks tghe people to express something for the camera and people often make faces. Then, he enlarges the pics and gets HUUUGE prints on ordinary paper that he pastes up on buildings. He's now being recognized as a majot artist and exhibits everywhere in the world. One of his most awesome work is the "face to face" project : important because of the impact and message.
