Ebay Price Boom!, by Daniel Silk on Jun 9, 2006 9:28:30 GMT 1, It looks like the prices of Banksy prints on ebay have started to rise even faster over the last few weeks
Unsigned Napalm £296 Unsigned Gangsta Rat £255 And with most signed pieces now going well over £1000
I think people are realizing that you cant really afford to wait for a bargain to appear coz if you wait a month the prices have just risen even higher and your dream print becomes more out of reach
What do you think?

Now I need to sell some Banksy's to help pay for a new car
Keep an eye out for bits of my beloved Mini coming up for sale soon on ebay

I just quit from the ebay group, it's F**king tragic the way people have become obsessed with prices, knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing, unbelievable how many people are on the side of unscrupulous dealers. And tragic the amount of people who flew out to LA, not to see the work, but to buy prints. Here's hoping this forum can stay on track and not turn into an auction site for paraphenalia and bricks !
In fact, selling stuff on here should be outlawed ;D swapping and trading up. Cool

Yeah, I know mate..but when a $500 dollar print is marked up at $4750 etc and then defended by the majority of the board, well.. it's madness, seems 90% of the people on there who initially bought into banksy for form and more specifically content have jettisoned all their supposed values in favour of $$$.. It's as much as what isn't said as what is. Would be nice if it was a bit more balanced, but it's one way traffic at the moment.

Ebay Price Boom!, by numusic on Sept 23, 2006 11:41:31 GMT 1, How about tragic that you bought the first print sold on ebay by the unscrupulous dealers in the US for three times the amount they originally went for and the ink hadn't even dried on the print!!!
And as I said, regretted it ever since mate, I wanted the festival print cos I run a street art festival, made me smile. I raised 15k this year to fly over graffers from around the globe to put street art where it belongs, on the street. t**t !

Ebay Price Boom!, by smellor on Sept 23, 2006 12:01:21 GMT 1, Hi nu, Its hallamcutler,
I really hope you didnt leave the ebay forum because I said you were getting on my tits and i did apologise, I was very grumpy. I love a good debate and one thing i always liked about you was you would defend your beliefs/point of view with passion(even if i didnt agree with you!).
However I've totally lost any respect for your opinion as rather than telling the acutal people you're pissed off with them you spit your dummy out and have a paddy on this forum.
So I didnt agree with you about punk daisy, so what! It doesn't mean that all I am concerned with is prices. Why do I have to pick a side? why is it us against them? A friend of mine runs a gallery, earns very little, but does it out of the shear love of Art.
If street art belongs in the street, why buy prints at all?
We do not only discuss prices, there were very few people that went over to LA purely for the prints and we had a good few reviews from people of the actual show. In fact, on more than one occasion I can think of it was you that brought the discussion round to prices, eg didnt you interject with something like, oh my god look how much a save or delete just went for!
I think you are a hypocrite and a bit of a coward for not having the balls to tell the people who annoyed that they did. At least when Moff left for a while he had the bollocks to tell everyone what he thought.
I dont often come on here as i find it difficult to keep up with one forum nevermind two but thought if you are no longer registered on the other forum I would rather say what I think to you rather than wingeing behind your back.

Hi Sarah you mad old stalker.. I'm gonna phone the police if you don't leave me alone I told you, I have a girlfriend already ;D
Just kiddin ;D ;D ;D
Listen, I have no problem with prices, market share, fame, gallery, dealers etc etc.. but when you mention defending my beliefs with passion etc etc.. 90% of the people on the bay defend the dealers..there's as many people on there selling as buying, so obviously when I have a go, all the bleedin heart liberals just sit stum on the fence. There are degree's of materialism, I'm not trying to paint everyone with the same brush, and yes I did mention Save or Delete going for 310 quid, because it's mental. It's a F**king poster for christ sake.
Peace

Ebay Price Boom!, by matilda on Sept 23, 2006 12:17:36 GMT 1, hello nu its clareshops, wanted you to see what i posted over on the other side: with sarah 100%;tell us and stand up for your point of view and our reaction or shut up!(I paraphrase freely!) Also with johnnshona "wind your neck in you arrogant wee man." NUMPTY!
We DO discuss prices a lot BUT its with a gleeful enjoyment about others valueing what we value; we of course value the art(natch');we enjoy the idea that our (impeccable) taste is shared by others who value it by payinglotsa money for it. And sometimes we need to sell work to finance our lives! Sad but true. So whats his problem??? You really should read what has been said;you've got a nerve dissing people who went to LA to buy prints, you took advantage of one such person (&paid over the odds AGAIN). Thugs was digusted with ppl rushing for prints and not looking at the art first:quite right. We can all agree with that, you think it was only ppl from the ebay forum?? GET A GRIP.

I don't think its a case of defending dealers or not, I think the ebay group does a hell of a good job of routing out unscrupulous dealer (particularly thugs, moff and police), I just don't think everyone that deals in art is unscrupulous or everyone that owns a gallery immoral, is that such a bad thing?
I don't understand the difference between discussing prices and mentioning save and delete because it went for £310, that is no different to me saying fucking hell i sold my signed CND for £680 three weeks ago! I really do not see any difference at all.
There are a lot of discussions relating to other artists, things not to do with art etc and i think you've really cut your nose off to spite your face. There are a lot of members over there that lurk but do not post so i am a little confused as to who you're talking about because to be honest, theres not that many over there!
I am really not trying to get into an argument with you but if you are not trying to tar everyone with the same brush, then say who pissed you off! and let them defend them self rather than telling everyone over here we're a bunch of price obsessed twats.

Ebay Price Boom!, by mido on Sept 23, 2006 12:53:07 GMT 1, dare I say it but this is pretty dull.
maybe you all need a separate forum to discuss all this.
let's get back to the real issues please. most of us (and certainly all the people having this discussion) like banksy and we all think he has something important to say in this greedy, messed up world. Him becoming flavour of the month shouldn't change that. And he won't be flavour of the month for ever, so maybe peoples' differences will reduce soon (hopefully).

Also with johnnshona "wind your neck in you arrogant wee man." NUMPTY! GET A GRIP. Crazy stalkers, listen.. I left the board cos I was sickened how people reacted or didn't react to some of my comments. I don't wanna get into over here. Ebay board is mostly boll*cks for middle class armchair wannabe subversives. (Note the mostly). peace

Ebay Price Boom!, by smellor on Sept 23, 2006 12:58:27 GMT 1, dare I say it but this is pretty dull.
maybe you all need a separate forum to discuss all this.
Martin I apologise for highjacking your forum!
It is dull, but for some reason really got my back up so yes, I apologise (seem to be doing that a lot lately!) for arguing over here, although I would liked to have discussed it with nu its a shame he didnt give us the chance over there!
I'll leave it now, but only for martin aka the voice of reason.

If you didn't want to get into over here why did you feel the need to mention it over here in the first place and in the process insult many people who have helped you and who also considered you a virtual Friend ?
Having read through the numerous rantings made by you in between doing back door deals for prints from 'dealers' I am amazed that you still have this self belief that you are on the moral high ground.
If you are so morally right why:
Do you present other peoples concepts as your own... el chivo !
Do you lambaste others for not using their own ideas.
Do you discuss prices
Did you rush into buying an LA print at an inflated price
Do you use other peoples photos as if you are part of the 'in crowd'
------------------------------------------------------------
won't be long before you leave this forum after digging a few holes you can't get out of !
You ain't the full ticket Numusic

Ebay Price Boom!, by mido on Sept 23, 2006 13:20:11 GMT 1, thanks sarah, apols accepted. I can appreciate both sides point of view but I don't think it's worth continuing, so hopefully we can let it all blow over.
this is a bit more of an 'information' based forum usually.
take care, x
