Use the money to buy even more prints, upgrade to more expensive ones, or pay for expenses in your life. Can pay immediately. I'm close (alright, full-blown) to obsessive on obtaining to hang in my home. An unsigned LN can be bought off ebay btwn 1700-1800 mark, the signed one's which seem to be very rare (150) will go for at least double that, if I was you I'd buy unsigned while you can, christmas is not far off and more ebayers will be looking for presents for spouses etc and I'm sure prices will rise again, you could also resell if you found a signed one. Even your unsigned version will only go up in value, what are you waiting for...?

STILL LOOKING..., by RBK on Oct 5, 2006 17:30:31 GMT 1, 2 reasons:
1. Thought I had secured a signed one but by the time the gallery got back to me it had already sold (second time this has happened to me) 2. Believe there is a lot of artificial value being created on Ebay by people that own the prints - I've very closely been monitoring who has been bidding on the past 5-8 on Ebay.

STILL LOOKING..., by thetongue on Oct 5, 2006 17:42:27 GMT 1, I agree with your point about inflating prices, I've bid on some but only to a point, looks like panic buying really. £1500 for what is effectively a poster can't last in my opinion, am sure once the new prints are out hopefully the fans will get hold of them and you won't see as many people cashing in on ebay

Hmmm, everyone said that when I was buying at 500 quid.. they thought I was mad. Now it's 1500-2000k. I imagine he's got another good 5-10 years before he reaches Hirst's heights, but I expect he'll be a household name before long, and he's only just hit the US.. they KNOW how to hyper promote and inflate. I'd say he's still a very good bet.

Yeah, I can remember people joining the forum ages ago and saying things about the bubble will burst, and the prices cant keep going up The prices are now double what they were then and they are going up faster than ever

STILL LOOKING..., by thetongue on Oct 5, 2006 18:14:58 GMT 1, Nu + Silky, I agree with your points in principal and I think his work in general will hold value and increase, but I don't think unsigned art is really of much value in my opinion so wouldn't pay loads. If people want to spend a grand or two on an unsigned print it's their choice. But why not buy a nice original canvas from some other artist and save yourself over a grand too ;D

If you look at the prices on ebay I think that most of the unsigned pieces are going for more than half the price of the same piece signed The signed piece would have originally cost £150, and the unsigned one £75 Why buy a signed one from POW when you can get two unsigned pieces for the same price that could eventually be worth combined more than the signed one? Does that make sense Well I guess none of us can really tell what will happen, but I'm just going on past record

oh we do Think you'll find pretty much anyone into Banksy has gradually been exposed to faile, obey, shrigley, dface, dolk etc etc and generally support newcomers.

STILL LOOKING..., by RBK on Oct 5, 2006 19:03:12 GMT 1, A few more points:
- I agree with Punk Daisy's sentiments (on another post) that the unsigned are over-valued, and signed are under-valued. - Singed prints are significantly less in editions, and have more of a connection to the artist. - No on is disputing that prises have risen like crazy, and will continue to - but the real question is how much of that is attributed to: artificial value being created by people that own them and how much influence the crazies (us) checking POW, Ebay, etc. religiously & bidding against one another have on prices?
- Lastly, we have gotten away from my point of this post - who is going to sell me one???

STILL LOOKING..., by lesroy on Oct 5, 2006 19:14:38 GMT 1, My take is closer to Nu & Silky.
Why should I spend double just to get get Banksy's signature in pencil? I'd want a signature in tattoo on my cock for an extra thousand squid!
I honestly would buy signed if the difference was £150 over £75 but I stand by the fact that I buy the work for the image / message first... and would probably ever look at the signature again. Also the fact that they are all from the same limited run gives the unsigned stuff sooo much value.

STILL LOOKING..., by cwrawk on Oct 6, 2006 15:39:18 GMT 1, Prints are and always will be secondary to an original. Sure they will go up in value as the artist's work increases but in the end an A level dealer doesn't recognize them as anything worth investing in. I think prints are great because it gives everyone a chance to become a part of the artists vision. Banksy especially. His appeal is art for the now. A very large number of dealers in Los Angeles still don't even know who he is. Even after Barely legal! Which blows my mind. I think a signed print is better than non-signed. I don't think for investment purposes that it is possible to hit a home run with one though. I guess what I'm trying to say is. you can obtain any Warhol or Lichtenstein or any other print if you look hard enough. I will bet at some point in the future there will be Banksy reprints.

STILL LOOKING..., by Ågent ßacardi on Oct 6, 2006 17:46:00 GMT 1, I'm wondering why POW doesn't do more unlimited runs like they're currently doing with the Soup Can poster. Limited edition prints (signed and unsigned) will still have plenty of value attached to them, simply because they're limited. But why not do a slight variation on his most popular works (e.g., change the background color), and make them into unlimited runs, so that fans who want his work on their walls can have a chance to own them? That way, I believe that the current price inflation will decrease. Serious fans who like Banksy for his art will be satisfied, and won't have to bargain with eBay pirates because they can now afford his pictures and messages (which is what they're primarily after). The bargaining will then be left to serious Banksy collectors (with the big bucks), which will be fewer in number, which will subsequently translate to less price inflation (less people outbidding each other). And of course, the difference between the limited runs and the unlimited runs will be obvious, so nobody can sell an unlimited poster as a limited one (unless the buyer is really clueless).
The Soup Can print's value has not been affected by the existence of the unlimited posters... so I think it'll work. Just my two cents. Not that POW is reading this anyway

STILL LOOKING..., by RBK on Oct 6, 2006 18:02:38 GMT 1, One of the biggest rules in art is don't introduce new editions of old works, or alter old works- significantly affects the value of the originals. And if you were to do a unlimited poster - sometime it cheapens the image.
I am still wishing they print the 'Keep It Real' rat on the red background.

Spot on! AgentBacardi
I think all the talk about POW selling art cheap so everyone can afford it is ........ ( oooh! POW could be readying this ) If that was really true, why would they number the prints and make them limited edition? why not make every print an open edition so the prices would stay down ;D
