why doesn't someone here commission an artist like they are on the ebay group?

does anyone have the contacts and the willingness to do it.

i think a small run of prints at say £50 would get people interested.

If someone is willing to take on the organisation if it?!

if this does happen then i bags print number 2 (pressumming the person organising it has no1)

No artist has been determined yet... and even if that weren't true, no artist has even agreed to do anything yet... and you're calling dibs on a print already? Has the mere concept of a print become more important than what's actually on it?

not at all, if i didnt like the image or what who the print was by i wouldnt buy it, but with the bargining power of 100 or say 200 bankys.info members (200*£50=£10,000) we may be able to get a good print. i was just getting in early so if we ever do it and get a good print i can get one, i would love to think that i had a print that we had commissiond and that hopefully wouldnt end up on ebay as we would have all bought 1 to have and to hold!!

who knows with all the contacts people have on here we may be able to get something special

What did you have in mind?

I'm an artist that works mainly on a commission basis and I have done a few Banksy style pieces in the past. Not many to sell though. Just messing about. I have good contact for printing prints. They are actually a framer and printing house (winners of the national framing awards this year actually!)

To be honest I cant see how it would work unless the people that wanted to commission a print run all had a say in the final design.

I've actually got a small project on the horizon to create a limited number of prints using other peoples art. As a kind of promotional piece of work too. check it out at www.artists-united.com

So basically, sod what the picture is as long as we can buy a print that no one else has. This is a prime example of head up ars* both here and the ebay forum. From memory, this is a site dedicated to the apreciation of banksy's work, and alot has been said in the past about even thinking about selling a print, it has degenerated past selling and buying of known prints to the trying to buy a non existant print from an artist who doesn't even know they are ment to be taking a comission, purely for the sake of buying a print, anyone who signed up for this on either forum has obviously lost the plot, there is no type of organisation as far as contacts, prices, costs, who's looking after things, no-one will agree on the image, oooh I'm not paying for that one etc etc etc
This is the type of rubbish that has got us into the mess where we are now, buying for the sake of it rather than what we actually like,

i disagree, we are pretty much at the hands of scalpers, inept web hosting companies, incompetent staff and overpriced ebay tat. From start to finish, we are generating so much business for a few shareholders. Getting hold of a print you want is so hit and miss and time consuming. Preferential treatment dished out to 'VIP' guests etc etc. So fuck it, rather than waiting for POW to sign up elchivo and makae a killing, or alternatively, don't sign him up.. well, as a small group of individuals.. we can approach any street artist and pick and choose an image and say hey, we love this image, how about you knock up 50 oif em on cardboard or print paper and we'll give you 2.5k, this will hopefully enable them to go travelling and hit up a few more cities. It's basically what POW did in the beginning, this way it just cuts out the middleman and goes direct to the artist.

There's a LOT better work out there than on the POW roster. This is the one we hope to do


Which in my opinion is ten x better than most work in SG.. anyway, it's just a test to see if it would function. I think it's a cool idea to set up a cooperative, controlled by the group and fans dedicated to street art. Rather than waiting to see what POW, which pretty much dominates the market, comes up with.

would it be so hard to approach an artist with the concept and see what they come up with though?

Many fans follow a particular talent (would be nice as we are here at banksy.info if he would sort something out, not exactly holding my breath though, he has bigger velvet lined pockets to think about looking after) and a large percentage of the time, like "most" of what the artist puts out.

Let the artist create something specifically for a group of people, believers can sign on before the work is revealed and if the numbers are not high enough at that time, I'm sure more would sign up once the work is shown (obviously, this depends upon the artist we are talking about).

Obviously it would need to be well organised and not just a "send me 50 quid in the post and I'll sort you something out".

I'm sure there would have to be a sensible way to go about it somehow and come up with a result, and by result I mean a nice work you'd be happy to spend money on framing, as opposed to turning over the next day on ebay/etc..

The idea is a good one Nu, the practicalities make it near impossible, no-one here knows each other, everyones tastes differ to a large enough degree that i really do think its a non starter, as stated the complete lack of organisation is a killer from the start. As for not seeing them on ebay the next day, its nothing that you can garantee fella, as stated you dont have a clue who the vast majority of the se people are.

Thats why we could do something similar to www.Expressobeans has done with their print series. Maye not the same but the certainly have the right idea. Maybe one or two prints a year in a small run at an affordable price, profits goin to help the arts and such. Its called the EB series. They have had about 12 or 13 different artists create prints in different mediums, runs and sizes. But for it to work there does need to be a "commitee" to decide things by vote to keep it orderly.

I like this idea ALOT. It's a very democratic approach. Maybe we put up a short list of images from various artists and have a vote on each yntil we hit a cut off point that makes it viable for the artist (Say 100/250). Artist could offer 2 price points as POW (signed and unsigned) and we could all prepay individually by pay pal or cheque and then the chosen artist has the job of organising the screen printing and delivery. Briiliant!

You make some really valid statements, but Im afraid that this will all fall down in the process. Lets forget about the logistics and just say that it DID actually eventuate -- I think you will find that this would just become another "exclusive print" that ends up on Ebay. everyday there are new people joining the ebay group and Banksy.info and more and more I am seeing that their first posts on this site are "I have such and such print for sale -- contact me if interested".

Its a different ball game now.... Sad to say, but I just see it all falling down.

for optimisms sake -- would be great to see it all come to fruition though.
