Banksy dissertation, by mido on Jan 23, 2007 1:07:57 GMT 1, the first thing I would do is question why it is assumed / believed that it is a 'progression' to go from street art to exhibition art.

Banksy dissertation, by tomhills on Jan 23, 2007 19:06:48 GMT 1, for a start define "artwork". do you mean technically? obviously the stencils seem to have gone, for now maybe. or do you mean as in works of art? does he still make the same impact, does he provoke the same level of thought? there's a start my friend, if you ask yourself a load of questions and base them on the so called old and new style, then contrast and compare etc. pm me for address to send the cheque to yeah pal? peace.

Banksy dissertation, by Run Pig Run on Jan 23, 2007 19:12:51 GMT 1, For my GCSEs i did some coursework on Blur and copied it word for word out of Record Collector. I got a C. i.e. the professional journolist for one of the top music magazines in the world is only worthy of a C at GCSE. it's all a load of bollocks. get a job.

Banksy dissertation, by azlan on Jan 23, 2007 19:27:39 GMT 1, I must dig this out, cause there was once a mini sleezenation guide to Bristol. The Sleezenation writers and Laz came down to Bristol to interview / photograph all the interesting things happening in the city at that time.
There's a quote in there from Banksy saying how artwork in galleries was a waste of time as its on the street that it works best. - It's something like that anyway!
The magazine by chance focused on Bristol's new found resurrection of hiphop and graffiti art in all shapes and forms. Bristol at the time had another of those classic moments where serveral like minded people, all pushing to do something similar were in the same place at the same time (Banksy was only a small part of it). There was the 'Fantastic Super Heroes' (FSH) who's 40+ members comprised of more notably the hiphop group 'Aspects' and the Bristol graff crew 'TCF' and other well know artists such as 'Mr Jago', Will Barras, Sickboy, Dicy, Feek, Paris, Xenx, China Mike etc... FSH also comprised of clothing labels 'Kuldesac' and 'Attic Clothing', who's partnership created the street clothing / art store known as Alterior. Hombré records sprang up and utilized all the local talents, fusing them together for the first time. The band known as 'Onecut' also 'FSH' members worked with Banksy on they're album and 12" singles (a few examples on this site). The scene didn't exist before these people made it happen. Together they created the stage and forced the media attention...
Hope that helps!?
