The Next Big Thing, by atomcore on Feb 6, 2007 22:44:59 GMT 1, I agree that Adam Neate's work is amazing. My only concern is that Elm Lesters are over-pricing his work. The originals are stunning but they have really produced something awful with his first edition prints. Adam can produce many styles and they shouldn't have attempted to reproduce his 3d(ish) work-on-card style. Really ugly and around £600. It should be 10 times as good and half as much. IMO (of course!)

The Next Big Thing, by RBK on Feb 6, 2007 23:07:43 GMT 1, I'm honestly confused if ACE was having a dig at me or agreeing with my bold prediction.
Atomcore - From what I've heard the prints are so good that many are mistaking them for originals. I can't comment for sure on this - as I won't receive mine for a month - but maybe someone who has attended the exhibition can comment. I also heard that the way they were printed really does capture the 3-D nature.
Regardless, I think Adam Neate is quite talented - and many might think I'm crazy... but I'll come out and say that I think he is more talented that Micallef.

His originals sell for upwards of 8-10k.. up from between 200-800 mid last year and 1.5-3,5k just a 6 months ago... prints at 600 quid !!!.. he's already well and truly made it IMO.

The Next Big Thing, by Ågent ßacardi on Feb 7, 2007 0:23:05 GMT 1, I don't find all of banksy's subject matters to be sophisticated either, their execution and style help and certainly for me there's prints of his that i wouldn't adorn my walls with for that reason; it suprises me that the virgin mary for example was the last print to be sold; for me that's one of the best, the subject matter is much less 'gangster rat' and more mature, on top of that it has all the trade mark elements making it an all round classic piece that encompases who the artist is, and speaks of the genre of the work, through its carefully orchestrated drips, the natural framing is a bonus and the banksy logo tag at the bottom satisfies! anyway i digress; bast; appeals to me, i never got to get the pieces i wanted from the faile site but f**k it, i hope you get to! his style is very honest, he's produced strong work consistently enough for you to believe in, the elements come together to produce a very unique 'street; style with worth alongside the like of warhol, he's careful not to copy; but to move the style on, the techniques executed suggest his moving towards a very new direction; perhaps even more 'considered' than that of warhol, at least definately more daring and 'specific' in it's execution or message suggesting boldness, confidence and conviction from the artist.
Wow, that's a 233 word continuous sentence without a single period. I challenge anyone to say that with one single breath!

The Next Big Thing, by BK83 on Feb 7, 2007 0:25:18 GMT 1, I love that everyone has started their posts with something along the lines of "absolutely will be..." or "without a doubt..." -- the reality is, noone knows who will be big next-- Banksy is huge because he has the most effective PR and marketing team in the business at the moment. Noone else really comes close -- he has orchestrated mass publicity stunts that stick with the common pysche and are appreciated by all -- not just those in the art scene/streetart scene 'know'.
that being said it "absolutely without a doubt will be ...." whoever WE decide it will be -- that's the reality isn't it, it's up to us and how we respond to the marketing and the prints that are released.

The Next Big Thing, by RBK on Feb 7, 2007 0:27:30 GMT 1, Agree with Senna - the poll/thread title is pointless. I just started talking about art.
If you are a POW artist or are included in solo/group exhibitions with these caliber artists - you've definitely 'made it' to a certain extent.

good call.. he'll be showing at Nuart in Sept 07.. Mike at Blackratpress will be putting out the next couple of prints, so expect the quality to be up there.
Difficult work to interpret or translate into a saleable format, or to exhibit..
where's the show ? You're standing on it, idiot !
I think he'll receive critical acclaim, but difficult to see how he can sell work.

The Next Big Thing, by absyrd on Feb 7, 2007 16:42:44 GMT 1, I voted for Swoon because I couldn't stand seeing her with no votes. Really beautiful stuff.
I really want to check out her raft exhibit on the Mississipi, but I hear some biker gang is watching over it until the spring.
I'm also excited to see if Faile takes off a bit more.
After all, I have to support my domestics.

Be on the site by the end of the week.

The Next Big Thing, by beyond on Feb 7, 2007 17:43:14 GMT 1, the only problem being you can't PM you foundation. so, as they say, with respect comes responsibility. not sure who says that but anyway. with you on the whole respect thing though. the fact someone has made numerous posts, ie 100's, would make me think they're advice would merit consideration. someone who had posted less than 50, maybe not so much. i don't like to judge or be judged by others and the respect system does just that. prefects, rank and file, heirarchy, class system and all that crap.
is that why you changed from tomhills to tomhills1?

On sale now at blackratpress.co.uk/artist-slinkachu.php £150, I was really interested in these coming up, but I'm afraid these images are not the one's that float my boat, just my view of course, but I hope some future releases will be more up my street.

The Next Big Thing, by mcnuts on Feb 8, 2007 9:23:04 GMT 1, ok... so while i said slink..... 150 gbp, are you having a laugh? Old prints with smaller print runs were 25gbp or 50 gbp. Sure improved quality but you can get prints by more "known" artists for that price. In light of this price grab, I "withdraw" my suggestion.

The Next Big Thing, by buffruffly on Feb 20, 2007 15:02:13 GMT 1, his stuff has been around for a while so why is it all selling out so quickly? To me it reeks of people buying solely for financial purposes. Pretty obvious, i know. Dan Baldwin=Snake Oil.....people are trying to get the same returns as Banksy has seen. The difference is that Banksy's rise was organic rather than manufactured. Seems to be a bubble economy. What the fuck though, buy his stuff if you like it, and even if you don't you may as well fleece some other sucka in the short term and buy something you like.
